    I’m making a version of this now. I use Himalayan salt also, but I also use Celtic Sea Salt which is a bit pricey, but it has health benefits Himalayan doesn’t. I watched a show where chefs prepared fish with different types of salt & all agreed the Celtic Sea Salt was superior in flavor. Just a public service announcement 😂

    Hi Nan, I saw your recipe for ranch dressing on Chef AJ's channel and decided to subscribe to your channel. I live close by the Local Spicery (Marin County Norcal) so I'm going to pick up the dill seed for the dressing and herbs for this delicious looking soup. Have a great day.

      You may prefer to do it in an 8 quart, which is a size that you’re going to want to have for your stock anyway.

    Do you use organic split peas?

    • @NanSimonsen
      @NanSimonsen  2 года назад +4

      Hi bourgsusan, yes, I buy most of what I eat organic. Too many of our crops are sprayed with the desiccants, herbicide, and pesticides that mess up our microbiome in our hormones. That’s my way to try to keep my food as clean as I can.😊

    Is a good olive oil a bad oil

    • @NanSimonsen
      @NanSimonsen  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Bee, good question. It depends on who you ask. Plenty of experts will tell you that a virgin cold pressed well. sourced olive oil is actually good for our health. I won’t argue that.
      I have learned to love my food without oil Which gives the food, a very pure flavor, and saves hundreds, and hundreds of calories, which allows me to as they say “eat way less”. Because I focus on Whole Foods that are plant-based I get plenty of healthy fat, but it’s not refined or concentrated into an oil. It’s tied to the other nutrients in that food as well as the fiber. So for example, my huge, filling, and beautiful daily salad mixed salad has hundreds of calories less than if I used oil-based dressings.
      To sum it up, those who eat whole food plant-based believe what I just stated above, and that it’s better for our cardiovascular health to cut added oil from our diet. I hope this answered your question.🌻🥰🌻

    Harissa is North African, from Tunisia 🇹🇳 (Algeria & Morocco use it a lot too) other countries might use Harissa but Nan it is definitely not Persian so if you say it is a middle-Eastern condiment you will upset some people. You have to have the knowledge of where the food comes from so you don’t spread false information. Btw you look great at 71 😊

    • @NanSimonsen
      @NanSimonsen  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you for drawing my attention to this. Yes I see that it is used in a number of cuisines, including the Middle East, but is Tunisian in origin. Very good to know. 🌻😊🌻

    Olive oil IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Yes, all the others are bad. Why are the Ickerians so much healthier than us and the second longest lived people on the planet? And you use a cooking item that has PFAS

    • @NanSimonsen
      @NanSimonsen  2 месяца назад

      Hi Cheryl, thank you for taking the time to respond to my video. Olive oil is certainly the exception to processed oils. In addition, as an oil, it has 120 cal a tablespoon, Just a little less than an entire pound of broccoli. I promote honoring and being aware of choric density. We don’t have to cook with oil and can stay full and satisfied on all of natures bounty without adding a lot of oil to that. The value in the oil can be gotten from the whole food..
      Oops, am I dropping the ball? What cooking item am I using that has PFAS?

      Yes, if smokey is not your thing, then don’t add it. It still has plenty of flavor.
