    These looked amazing but when I made them they are all sunk in the middle. The only thing different was that I used 4 frozen bananas….should I have measured?

      Oh no Caroleeni. I’m so sorry to hear that! I too used four thawed frozen bananas, and they were well shaped and delicious. The recipe is directly out of Chef AJ‘s book which I know was heavily tested. I’m not sure what could have gone wrong. It is disappointing when things don’t turn out as expected and I’m sorry to hear it. If you try them again, be sure to let me know. 🌻🥰🌻

      @@NanSimonsenWell, sadly, my efforts have been a total disaster. I don’t have a vitamix but I do have a good quality processor which just won’t cope with this this mass. In desperation I tried my very powerful stick blender and that burnt itself out. The lentil mix is just too thick. So now I am left with a bowl of partially mashed lentils and all the other ingredients apart from the packing powder and the bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice. Perhaps I can use it to build a little wall in my garden 🙄. Incidentally, I live in the UK. 😊

      ⁠I am so sorry to hear this Mary. There are a number of people who said that they used this recipe before I even found it, and say they have enjoyed it for years.       @@NanSimonsen Well, never one to give up, and reasoning that the fault must lie on my side as everyone else seems successful with this recipe, I decided to try again. First step - I felt that my equipment wasn’t up to the job, so I bought myself a Ninja food processor. I soaked the lentils overnight and then, having drained them, I added the water and blended them with my stick blender (they looked nice enough to eat there and then with some soft fruit!). I then added everything to the blender and followed your instructions. Half an hour later and I was eating one for lunch with homemade Italian vegetable soup. Absolutely delicious! I love the taste. The texture seemed strange at first, but I am more than happy now I am used to it. So a very big thank you, Nan - I’m a convert 🤣👍🏼

      @@NanSimonsen I replied to you but can’t see my reply here so…. Not to be beaten (and knowing how everyone seems to enjoy these rolls), I decided that maybe my equipment wasn’t strong enough, so I purchased a better food processor and tried another batch today and I am delighted with the result. I had one with homemade Mediterranean vegetable soup and enjoyed both. So, it was worth persevering. The texture took a bit of getting used to at first but I loved the flavour. So thank you for your encouragement. I will be making another batch tomorrow!

    I've tried to make tortilla style wraps with red lentils and did not care for the taste. Can anyone comment on the flavor, I really miss bread and would like an inexpensive alternative.

      Hi, your concern is a valid one because the legumes do have a different flavor than grains. If I were you, I would try these though. Although there is a bit of an earthiness to the flavor, they really are quite good. When you cut them in half and toast them, the outside is crusty the inside is, still moist. I have them with salads, soups, and use it that way to build a sandwich. We all taste things differently, and I will keep my fingers crossed that you like these as much as others who have tried them and written. 🤞😊🤞

      Add spices ! make it tasty with spices and do not hesitate to add some. I add garlic powder, chives (dried), curry powder, cumin, coriander ... and so on. Go crazy ! You will love them for sure. And Nan said it, try them you will get use very fast to their amazing taste. The more you make them to your taste the more you'll make them often.

    For the love of God. This gluten free stuff is ridiculous!! Its taken off like an epidemic. The problem is the way flour is refined. And in North America its been done fine!! No problems. The problem is the sliced bread. Europeans have eaten and made one of the breads. All this other stuff harms you. Use common sense folks!!

    I've been making these for quite a while and I love them. They are now a permanent part of my weekly menu. I double the recipe and freeze several at a time - divided with parchment and then stored in a bag in the freezer. A lovely add to an entree salad without animal protein.

I was also advised that they freeze well, but because they’re legume based, will dry out more quickly. Best to eat them within a couple of months, and to store well wrapped, as you do. 🌻🥰🌻

    Hello Nan ! So to answer one of your questions about the measurements, she lives in Europe. So her measurements have been adapted - that's why they look weird here and there :) And it should have been in grams or ml, that would have made it easier for the liquid :) I've tried her recipe already and another one from someone else. Very tasty and nice little buns ! The other one I made was with green lentils, I mixed it half-half green lentils and green peas. DELICIOUS. Very nice to meet you.       I agree with you, this is a real find. She lists the nutritional facts as protein 13 g, fiber 20 g, fat 5 g (from the flaxseed and lentils), and 230 cal a roll. In my book, that, with some vegetables and fruit, could constitute a meal, isn’t that exciting?!🌻🥰🌻

      That’s a good question Liora. I made them the day before we left for Mexico for a holiday- I’m at Rancho La Puerta with a group of 30 people and Chef AJ. I enjoyed half of one of them, and froze the rest. When we return home, I’ll have a good answer for you. In the meantime, I’m going to say that most bread freezes beautifully, and I trust this one will too.🌻🥰🌻

      I can confirm that you can freeze them. But not for too long, I would say around 1, 2 months max and make sure to envelop them very well, not just with a plastic bag. Add more blankets than just that. Legumes are dryer than flour, it's not the same process as making a bread. So the buns will have the tendency to dry if they stay too long in the freezer and are not enough protected from the cold. Hope that helps . Johanne

    Another GREAT video Nan! I went to an Italian restaurant in New York this weekend and could not resist the bread. I did not touch the oil or butter. I LOVE LOVE bread, I happen to have some red lentils, I am soaking me a cup tonight and will try this recipe. Looks delish. Thanks again for inspiring us to be better and eat better. 🥰

    Intriguing! I'm giving this recipe a go tonight! There's quite a few of these red lentil rolls I've tried making, but they don't work out well. The addition of flax, physsium & baking powder plus baking soda sounds like a game changer! Fingers crossed!

    Any ideas on calcium on a plant based diet over 55. I don't want to reach 1,200 mg. doing any dairy, but don't know how. I found out that basil seed has a lot of calcium, but still need ideas. Thanks!

      Hi Christine, what follows is a list of plant foods that are especially high in calcium. Start here and in a few months to a half a year get tested with a nutritional panel and see how you’re doing. Most nutritional absorption rate is interfered with in someway. I hope this is helpful: Here are some plant-based foods that are particularly high in calcium: 1. **Leafy Greens**: - **Collard Greens**: One cup of cooked collard greens provides about 266 mg of calcium. - **Turnip Greens**: One cup of cooked turnip greens offers around 197 mg of calcium. - **Kale**: One cup of cooked kale contains approximately 94 mg of calcium. - **Bok Choy**: One cup of cooked bok choy provides about 158 mg of calcium. 2. **Fortified Plant Milks**: - **Fortified Soy Milk**: Typically contains around 300 mg of calcium per cup, similar to cow's milk. - **Fortified Almond Milk**: Often provides around 450 mg of calcium per cup. 3. **Tofu**: - **Calcium-Set Tofu**: Half a cup of tofu prepared with calcium sulfate can contain up to 860 mg of calcium. 4. **Seeds**: - **Chia Seeds**: One ounce (about 2 tablespoons) provides 179 mg of calcium. - **Sesame Seeds**: One tablespoon of sesame seeds provides about 88 mg of calcium. 5. **Beans and Lentils**: - **White Beans**: One cup of cooked white beans contains around 161 mg of calcium. - **Navy Beans**: One cup of cooked navy beans offers about 126 mg of calcium. 6. **Almonds**: - One ounce (about 23 almonds) contains around 76 mg of calcium. 7. **Fortified Cereals**: - Many fortified cereals provide about 100-1,000 mg of calcium per serving, depending on the brand. 8. **Figs**: - Five dried figs provide around 135 mg of calcium. 9. **Oranges**: - One large orange contains about 74 mg of calcium. 10. **Seaweed**: - **Wakame**: One cup of raw wakame seaweed provides about 60 mg of calcium.     Dear Nan. First of all I love soup! And I have made this soup many times and absolutely love it. My grandkids all of a sudden love Panera’s Broccoli and cheese soup. So I am going to try using your recipe as a base and add broccoli and a little carrot. Do you have any thoughts on this?
