Lol I always liked how Heifetz whips his bow to the right at the end of a strong phrase (well when he ends it on a downbow, to be exact). It offers a very emphatic, resolute, intense, and clear finish.
As always, Julia Fischer plays with intense emotion, skill and concentration, and with an intuitive understanding of the work. And, befitting this music, her demeanor and her gestures are imperious! She is indeed an extraordinary artist. Thank you!
I like also the asian older guy on youtube, he played it nicely too....But he is little guy (with little hands) and I thought that after the concerto the violinist will need some neck massage.....the hand movements are so strong and fast. She will probably need neck and shoulders massage too, but she probably does some stretching before the concert.
@@alaalfa8839 All the string players study and train to make efficient and effortless movements, specially in fast movements. I think they'll be fine :)
She is Superb or much more! When she is playing I know she will place the music above anything else and I just relax and listen! The classic musician! A reference!.. and....wonderful artistic integrity!
Love Dvorak's melodies & idioms. You too, Julia.... you are a great violinist and pianist who could play concertos on both instruments. Salute from Bangkok, Thailand,
Fischer does a really great job of this. I have it favourited. I've been listening to this concerto since I was a nipper and I still love it. When I read about the "experts" saying that Dvorak "wrote it because he had to write a violin concerto" and that it isn't up to the standard of his other work are just full of it. It is certainly one of the longest violin concertos and if Dvorak were doing it as a throwaway exercise in conforming to some unstated standard, then he spent an unusually large amount of time doing it! The third movement is fantastic both from the soloist and the orchestra perspectives. A real workout for the soloist, particularly the last passage. Bravo, Julia!
The concerto *as a whole* is fantastic. As the British commentator says in the introduction, Julia Fischer said that it has the most beautiful beginning of ALL violin concertos. I think that is true. A masterpiece.
Dvořák´s great grandson Jozef Suk also played very well tghis concerto. I am not expert but he played it with very clear tune....Probably because he used stradivary violins and some other violin of 18 century. or the recording was very clearly recorded..Or the stradivary make such nice tune...Its on youtube. But you are right she is great violinist. description under video of this violin concerto.... "Suk plays on rare instruments built by Antonio Stradivari (1729), Giuseppe Guarneri "del Gesu" (1744) and Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1758). Josef Suk has had a long and distinguished career in the recording studio, winning the Grand Prix du Disqueno less then six times as well as the Wiener Floetenuhr Prize and the Edison Prize."
I. Allegro ma non troppo - 2:04 II. Adagio ma non troppo - 13:11 III. Finale: Allegro giocoso ma non troppo - 23:21 Encore: Hindemith Violin Sonata in G Minor, Op. 11, No. 6, III. Finale - 34:46
Generally, artistes tend to stop the first mvt at 12:14 if playing it by itself because that last 1 minute is so different from the rest of the movement. It does go on to 13:11 though.
+유수정 Yes, although London lacks a really great concert hall (acoustically) it does have the "Proms" the largest and best serious music festival in the World
Absolutely brilliant! Thanks a lot. I remember my father who played this when he was 60...and me only 9! Before communists in the Czech rep. condemned him (in 1958)...
I like her playing but her face is distracting..even the thumbnail of video...like she ate some lemon and onion in same time...Women look better if they look neutral or happy. I like men playing it They seem neutrall or calm.. Though there is no difference between women and men.
Since the piano concert no. 3 was not written for the next 30 years and Dvorak died 5 years before ever having a possibility to hear it, one must assume it was his visionary musical genius at work, being able to copy the theme from future beyond his lifetime.
Very lovely! I happened to sit next to a young Julia many years ago as she was traveling on her first solo flight without her mother or manager. She was about to perform at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago and was rehearsing this very piece, running through the fingerings on her forearm. When we landed, I handed her her Stradivarius from the overhead bin--I'm sure the only time I will hold one. We stayed in touch briefly in email. She was utterly charming, and I'm delighted to see how she continues to shine.
Brilliant, briliant encore! There are the fireworks!

i actually am doing a full tour study on dvorak right now for one to actually hear the rest of his works so i can have a coherent "i love dvořak and these are my favorite pieces" but also as a composer to i know whats up in his mind and really a lot of his works are underrated or unappreciated but im excited to here this concerto for the first time even as a violinist and im excited to hear julia perform i say this like its happening right now
Much under-rated work along with his amazing Requiem. Among Romantic era composers Dvorak is up there with the very best, no doubt about that. "Most beautiful beginning of all violin concertos" ? Surely this goes to the Walton v/c?
cameronpaul Agee, Walton VC, with Ida Haendel, very beautiful beginning. Well, there are so many beautiful VC, not only the standard Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky , Mendelsohn, Mozart, Sibelius, Bruch etc...I love all of them! But I also really like the beginning of Bruch's Scottish Fantasy ( I consider that piece as a VC).
Well, I guess, with intense emotion, but I should say a German coldness, good, but extremly german perfection, with also a skill and concentration, focused , but a little bit away from a public intense aproach.
music is excellent.it is very difficult to reach such a level.just work of hard study.harmony is splended and epic.excitement runs the masterpiece.lots of dialogues with violin and the orchestra.orchestra is deep with answer to the violin.
well, i guess if there is one concerto she should be knoewn for then it's this one. She is a really good violinist but for most things i have heared her pay before, there is some interpretation that i definetly prefer but this is just perfect.
Julia Fischer is likely to be the warmest and most genial female violinist of her generation. She is also the wittiest and cleverest in her interviews, and in the end a great favourite of mine. However, from a pure violin perspective, she seems to me spoiling her supreme talent. She should stand shamelessly above all others, but continues to play like the wunderkind she once was. How sad. Vorwärts liebste herrlichste und erhabenste Julia!
I love her characteristic sassy-ness. The way she whips up her bow at the end of a phrase. She's always completely in control.
Lol I always liked how Heifetz whips his bow to the right at the end of a strong phrase (well when he ends it on a downbow, to be exact). It offers a very emphatic, resolute, intense, and clear finish.
The perfect word is panache
This, to me, is other worldly..
Can you believe, she is also a pianist...This is top-level stuff..
The music starts at 2:00
thanks
you are the best :D
AstronomyGuru84 thanks😁
two minutes of rubbish before she appears!
Such a beautiful concerto, full of Slavic passion and fire.
Nah this is Germanised Slavic
Julia Fischer is half Slovak from her mother, she definitely has Slavic temperament !
@@afrofinka I agree with you and the main commenter. She captures the intended mood perfectly

The smile on her face says it all. She is so connected to the orchestra and they're smiling right back.
This concerto is so underrated and underperformed its a disgrace. Beautiful music!
Completely agree. It's just as great at Brahms and Tchaikovsky - and greater than Mendelssohn and Bruch. Very deep, very complex, very powerful.
Love Dvorak's melodies & idioms. You too, Julia.... you are a great violinist and pianist who could play concertos on both instruments. Salute from Bangkok, Thailand,
What a marvelous performance. The encore is just breath taking. If you don't trust me, look at the reactions from the members of the orchestra.
Julia is the world's most sensational music artist one will ever see!

The Hindemith is a brilliant choice for encore! Talk about under-rated composers in today's world. We need more Hindemith!!
I didn't know that piece of Hindemith... it's awesome
Wish there was a recording of it to buy
The music seems to resonate through her entire body, which adds so much to the depth and tone, she has to be the best current performers! Bravo Julia!
Among the very best, for sure.

Totally agree ....
The finest of this or perhaps any other generation ....

She makes it look simple but it demands an incredible time of study and hard work. She is amazing good. Many thanks for posting

Breathtakingly beutiful performance. Julia Fisher ! British are lucky to have PROMS.

Indeed - too often, you see violinists use too much pressure to try and project their sound in this hall.
yes indeed !!!

Ahhh I know right!

Julia Fischer is simply marvelous. This concerto is gorgeous, I love it.
Just amazing, bravo Julia, breathtaking!!!
Not only does Fischer have the concerto in her fingers, but Zinman is on fire! A beautiful performance, enhanced by excellent sound.
I think you're mistaken. The conductor is Zinman. 🙂
First time heard this music. Julia is Incredible fantastic! I think she is the best violinist in the world!❤❤❤
Does Dvorak's music remind anyone else of a cloudy, misty day just as the sun is breaking through.
errrrm. no.
Well I was thinking two days ago the same....like sun coming in the morning.....The music is dramatic, and very soft and gentle.
I've always imagined the Hungarian Plains on a cloudy day lmao but he's Czech.
I like her playing but her face is distracting..even the thumbnail of video...like she ate some lemon and onion in same time...Women look better if they look neutral or happy. I like men playing it They seem neutrall or calm.. Though there is no difference between women and men.
