As a music teacher, It's actually quite charming to watch someone with no conventional understanding of music theory approach composition with their own methodology; and I'm glad that tools like FL piano roll exist to facilitate precisely this. @kungfucolin agreed completely. we put our hands on our instruments, and then we learned to make sound, and then, we learned how to make them sound good. These are things an instructor can never teach -- that is how one develops ones own sound and learns to make their instrument speak from their heart when lecture and practice hall time is done and the concert hall lights and curtains have been raised. Even then with formal training, there comes a point where we are taking the notes from the page, and making them speak from us. Theory can never teach this. One who learns to do it from the start is far more gifted then those with years of school and nothing to show for it. Theory is only a guide. Bookworms are useless with no work experience. Adaptability and development of methodology are personal skills one of THOSE theorists will never learn without putting their hands on their fret , fingerboards, strings, pads, bows, sticks, or keys. To them I say, pretending to play will get you no where. What is being done here is art, and being shared with us as he walks that path of learning, and its beautiful.

I've been playing most of my adult life, 150+ shows a year east coast. I dont understand theory. I know it would serve me well to learn it. But I see and hear patterns. This type of explanation reaches an audience like me more effectively then Theory does. Theory often just reminds me how musically illiterate I am. With humility I can honestly say I punch above my weight class when performing live or writing. I wanted to share quickly for us guys that dont speak theory that find this video quite helpful.
I just hope people are not paying money. Because that is highways robbery. How you gonna teach music without an instrument. It’s all about using software. M. To that end, I STILL don’t know what this “Music Theory” is (and I have been making music since 1974. I know what music is, but unsure of this theory. Is it just a fancy way of saying using a software, or….? I’m sure the guy is a nice guy and all but he needs to stop all this “secrets of Bass real EDM artists don’t want you to know” and “Never start an EastSide Underground DubHop beat without this plugin” blah blah. It’s ART. Since when is there a right way and a wrong way? It’s what people like. I dunno. I wish there was more progressiveness and less theorizing.
@@YourFreeBeats yeah, its like "if it sounds good it sounds good" and you can achieve this feeling with anything its like a craving for something and you find a solution
@@YourFreeBeats you've been making music for 50 years and never heard of "Music theory"? Theory has nothing to do with using software, using software is more just an issue of "taste", or easiness. I'm not really talented at real instruments, I'm trying to get better, but it takes real practice and talent, while in software you can just tell the computer to play the notes. but no, Theory is about what notes sound nice, in whatever medium it may be, digital, electric or acosutic. it's about key signatures, and chord progressions, and rhythm oh, and also, you're over 50 and and your username is "Check-a-Bitch Beats"? dope
@@YourFreeBeats There is a difference between the clickbait you're complaining about and music theory. You trying to talk about music theory is actually laughably stupid. You're one of those idiots that think it's a bunch of "rules" and talk down on it because "I don't wanna limit My Creativity™." Even though it's obvious you've NEVER studied it. In reality, music theory functions more like guidelines. It's music **theory,** not "music law" for a reason. Plus, are you seriously talking about breaking music theory conventions when making EDM??? That's just stupid. VAST majority of EDM rarely explores outside of major/minor and I DOUBT your music has either even though you have big talk. So many kids out there talking about how they "don't need music theory," meanwhile all they write is vi - IV - I - V or a rotation of it. If this is you, stfu and learn noob theory.

* proceeds copy and pasting the existing one but with another chord in the end *
It' s emphasis
My favorite part of your video is your emotion and passion. It made this video enjoyable
"It's like a special kind of gorgeous" :D
I don't think there's a better advertisement to your bootcamp than the student's intro track that he sent you. That was sick.
1:21 a potential meme material " i am logic guy"
bro that melody is beautiful
6:28 When they say they did some mining off camera
I've been playing most of my adult life, 150+ shows a year east coast. I dont understand theory. I know it would serve me well to learn it. But I see and hear patterns. This type of explanation reaches an audience like me more effectively then Theory does. Theory often just reminds me how musically illiterate I am. With humility I can honestly say I punch above my weight class when performing live or writing. I wanted to share quickly for us guys that dont speak theory that find this video quite helpful.
lmao, "heaven, HEAVEN."
I like your way of getting unique chords. Thanks for the video.
Masterclass does not teach this.
Glad you're using fl now.
If masterclasses don't teach chord inversions and sustained notes in progression they're not master classes. This is theory 101 stuff.
Bro I felt it when you said heaven 😭😭😭. Beautiful song man
8:00 The meme potential
Sh!t's so emotional my man started sweating buckets
"These are just notes that sound good" ahahah They are
I feel like you so underated, all people who are new to FL Studio should def be introduced to you!!
You wanna talk about powerful chord progressions go listen to "Time" by Hans Zimmer
how great is this youtuber wth man ur so good!
Lol - guy not understanding music theory trying to teach theory is hilarious.
thats amazing
@@YourFreeBeats yeah, its like "if it sounds good it sounds good" and you can achieve this feeling with anything
its like a craving for something and you find a solution
@@YourFreeBeats you've been making music for 50 years and never heard of "Music theory"?
Theory has nothing to do with using software, using software is more just an issue of "taste", or easiness.
I'm not really talented at real instruments, I'm trying to get better, but it takes real practice and talent, while in software you can just tell the computer to play the notes.
but no, Theory is about what notes sound nice, in whatever medium it may be, digital, electric or acosutic.
it's about key signatures, and chord progressions, and rhythm
oh, and also, you're over 50 and and your username is "Check-a-Bitch Beats"?
Hey Alex. I'm an Ableton guy but I'm just halfway through your vid and I'm loving and understanding every bit. many thanks in advance
Sure! I used some Ableton in my latest video too if you want to check that out.
I really like how you teach but come on. The thumbnail goes "basic, cheesy, boring" then lists the one you made as "vibrant, emotional, rich" but that was the most basic, cheesy and boring sounding song ive heard lmao
Where were you man , I really needed this, top man
After making the music piece the way you express in the end will motivate us to go ahead and try these things. Thanks for that Alex. You are too good a tutor.
this was the easiest guide of my life thank you
That look we shared at the end is the reason for the like and subscribe.
Heaven!
