Here's an alternate explanation: Notice how none of the notes in the melodies or bass lines are sharps or flats? That means that the key signature of the piece is C Major. Notice what those last few notes of the melody are? That's right. C. So the figure, phrase, motif or movement "resolved to the tonic." It ended on the best note to make it sound completed.
A useful strategy to creating these motifs is to come up with a little phrase which ends on a note that's not the tonic (root note), nor the fifth nor the third. In C Major, that means don't end on C (root) or E (third) or G (fifth). End it on, say, F (fourth) or D (second). On the second-to-last motif, end on B (Major seventh, just one half-step below the root) or maybe G (but B is stronger). Then end the last phrase right on the root, C. Boom! You've written a melody that sounds like you know what you're doing.
Another consideration is the rhythmic value of the notes you choose to create your melody(s). Are they all the same, whole notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, whatever? Maybe vary them. Here's an explanation that is clearer than whatever I could write here in this comments section: ruclips.net/video/As0qoBUvJnE/видео.html He's a guitar player, but the principle is the same.
That's enough of my Great American Novel here. Good luck.
Thanks for this dude!!!!! Well put
I loved the video. I kept thinking the same thing. You’ve resolved to the tonic! That’s why it sounds so good even though it’s just one note repeating. It’s the key note for the key. So cool to either know that or feel that or both. Result is the same. Great channel; great comment.
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
sequence to c minor is the same? thx alot!!
@@pedrocardoso7399 Just follow those steps in the Eb Major scale and you should have a good melody to work with

What I really love about your videos is the excitement you show after listening to your work and getting hyped about it. That basically is exactly how I react when I create a short stub and I'm really feeling it.

Extremely underrated tutorial, kept it simple and digestable
The beauty of Alex' vids isn't only that he is teaching us ways to improve our game but that it's also therapeutic that you must enjoy it while you're doing it, otherwise you wouldn't continue at all.
that feeling after making good music, its why i do it.
Sameeee. I upload the songs I make btw, but I forgot to upload like... 5 other ones😳😬 the only one I uploaded is in F minor... literally named “f minor” because I can’t think of a good name

Loving it. Started learning to produce just about a week ago, have been spending tons of time just absorbing as much as I can. Planning to take the course when I'm a bit more familiar
Keep it up! 💕
Just make loads of songs, even if you don't start out good at it you will use every new thing you learn on the next one.

You are such a great youtuber man, when you finished that build up demo for the melody and you were psyched, so cute #nohomo but it was insanely “wholesome”
Dude nice🔥🔥 new sub

That’s the type of music I hear on all those football (soccer) competition videos I watch haha. Good work man. Simplistic break down.

Curious how you think about instrumental melodies like this (and counter-melodies) and how they relate to the vocal melody?
Amazing
Awesome!
Great thanks 👍 for new ideas

Ur Amazing Man!
Really niceeeeeeee ❤️
Thanks for the video and using FL Studio!
I've got a lesson from this video: "remember A-B-A-C structure and expand it in wider view."
WELCOME BACK!!!!;)
Thank u !!! ✌️
i love these pattern based videos, especially the drum ones they help me a lot. i notice in such videos you have (what i consider) odd tempos, like this one is 180, is this a conscious choice? and if so what are the reasons/benefits to working in such high tempos. cheers, love your content ! /R.
Hey Alex, been watching for a while and your videos are very inspiring, even to experienced producers this still helps.
Those sounds you used sounded very professional, are those type of sounds also in one of your packs?
Seus vídeos são fantásticos! Desejo tudo de bom para ti
Nice pattern men !!! Thnx
to make a cadence sound finished it must end on the tonic, a good pretonic note is the 7th or 2nd which resolve naturally to the tonic.
you could also have the melody be dissonant with the chord/bass progression to make the resolution sound even better, that's called 'suspension and release'.
Came to watch the C- sections 😆 good video!
by far the most informative video i've seen when it comes to producing original pieces, it's sometimes tough to expand on ideas and you end up looping the same patterns, or adding it more layers to fill out the sound but in reality you're just muddying the mix. I do a lot of beat production so original songs are very difficult for me but i've been learning as much as possible, thanks!!
CHORDS BRO KILLA
Was good!
New subscriber. Easy to understand
We missed you!
We've gotta take some time to admire Alex's acting at the start
Loooll Dyssonix the milk bag man is a beasssttt love the group alex
Yes, milk bag Fran lmao
Lol
One of my favorite songs that I have made is “bring it on” which is this orchestral arrangement for a battle theme. I basically already do this and it still sounds amazing
ruclips.net/video/N76Yt1RiTFg/видео.html is the link if you wanna hear it. It might also be the entire elementals playlist, so I guess you can listen to that.
Nice vibes
i love watching these. You remind me of someone. I cant quite pin point it
Wow I’m a beginner and I’ve been using a similar technique all along haha! This is super helpful tho thx Alex
I liked hearing and seeing your response at the end. It’s that cream your pantz moment, gets me every time.
Thanks bro
Damn i liked that 👌
Keep going bro
