hey everyone, I used two different daws in this video and believe I'm the only RUclipsr using multiple daws in a single video haha. Here's some background about me. I am primarily a Logic user. I just like it the best for no other reason other than because of how long I've been using it. I've been making Logic videos for years on youtube and recently wanted to appeal to users of all DAWS. This is why I started using FL Studio in videos. In the future, I'll be using Ableton, Fl Studio, and Logic in videos. Don't worry though. I am really good a teaching in a way that users of different DAWS can understand me no matter what DAW I am teaching in. Just stay focused on one thing, and that is writing good music. It does not matter which tools we use. As long as we are focused on writing good music, our skills will continue to grow.
Honestly what "acting beginner" is mindlessly squeezing in more instruments in a drum beat, just to fit in to the notion of "more variety the better". There are some tracks some of which are better off even with only a kick and a snare, it depends on your own creativity and the feeling you want to get from the track, there is no such rule dictating how professional your music is depending on the number of samples you use for your drums.
I gotta agree with you here. I think he should have described the vid differently, maybe saying its a list of ways or ideas for beginners on how to vary up drum patterns, but doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be better
People like you make the internet a better place. I'm just making beats for fun and as a way to blow off some steam, but you're helping me achieve sounds I didn't think I could ever hope to.
Especially the importance of sound selection is a great point, but I think presented like this we're kinda running the risk of presenting an idea that "more is better" or "more professional" while that is definitely not always the case. Sometimes emptier patterns with just good sound selection goes the long way, without all the extra flourishes.
I let the sounds deform themselves as they mix in with each other. I call it musical abuse, just layers on top of layers and shit starts cutting itself off, like bass kick snare together sounds different to bass snare hi-hat. Reverse a few samples, especially the cymbals sound like they get sucked into the beat. I'm a total noob, not sure how this is pro. Or maybe I am pro, since one of the DJs I know collabed with Tiesto, who is a very famous DJ... I think his stuff sucks though.
We all remember our n00b days... glad you got to pro though. Some people will always be pwned unfortunately since they don't watch enough of your videos 😂
@@nikokotoulasyour videos are even better. I can never thank u enough for teaching me the stuff that i always had trouble learning. Love your content bro.
Love the video. It would be cool to see you mess around with triplets, swing, etc. I'm working on a track and just realized Logic won't quantize dot notes. They have triplets and all these swings but no dots, so I'm having to spend way more time using Serum with this particular beat.
I think this guy makes the most useful videos n skills for those who make music at their home like me. It's pretty basic but it gives toms of details and what I should do and improve. Always Thank you bro 🔥🔥
Your videos have been very helpful for me. You have outstanding content. It’s very clear and straightforward to the point. Keep up the great work. This one will definitely be very helpful for the exact help I’m Looking for!!
I've never seen tutorials so clear and concise as Alex Rome's TBH. Personally, I think I've improved on this hobby cos just gets like what points to discuss, what emotions do we want to come out of our sound. And what's even more amazing is he can discuss every genre and his demos sound absolutely on point!
Great video! Quick FL tip for future videos to mute the tracks quicker. Right click or better Crtl/Cmd + left click on the mute lights to mute everything except the track. Also works in the mixer and channel rack.
I think it’s best to keep drums really simple. It’s easy to end up doing too much and it all become too busy. Some of my favourite songs have the most basic drum track
Just found you on yt and i just want to say thanks for the amazing content. Love your vids so much as a former edm producer that took 9 years off, im ready to jump back onto the ship and you’re helping grow in new ways honestly. You’re the best dude!
Dude! So dope...I remember making patterns like the lame ones, thanks for sharing the dope way to do it! Also like how you're swinging those short hi hats...some pro moves right there.
Love the ride on the kick technique. I've never tried that one. It adds a great accent. What do you think about laying snares/claps and shifting one off grid 1/2 beat to give the drums a bit of swing?
Just wrote a song in a Dorian key and it led to different musical feels and discoveries. It was a pop dance tune but I can see it in the EDM world as well.
Hey Alex I have a request for you for a future video. I've followed many of your chord progression tutorials and I'm at a point where I have a great chord that sounds good, can you do a tutorial on how to build a rolling bassline that will go with it and how to mix it? This is for an uplifting trance project 136-138bpm. Thanks in advance, hope you see my comment. You are appreciated.
5:19 i really don't get what you mean. The begginer beat was not a begginer beat. It was a introductory beat. Later you can add more sounds to that beat in the song like the "pro" one to just make it more alive and let the song have some progression.
brother how do I proceed my nexus on Mac book. I have downloaded refx cloud on my Mac but it too complicated to me please help me I cannot using nexus..😔
I think there are simple and complex rhythms. In my opinion this is not the same as beginners vs. pro. This video suggests that complexer is always better, but that would be a beginner's mistake. Generally pro's know very well what the optimal level of complexity is. The greatest hits not seldom have several simple ingredients with some complexer ones. Often this holds: "It is in self-limitation that a master first shows himself"
I know there are no rules in music, but somewhere on Yt I saw that it would be better to put the drums in sepcific Busses before a in a whole bus, like all hats in a hat-bus, all snares and so on. And the kick never put in a drum bus, but here I saw another way to handle this. To my 20 % Gang, which way do you take your drums while processing? 😅 (For myself, I learn to produce deep house, in case it is necessary)
It's all fluff mate. Grammy hits have been produced with and without buses. It's totally up to you. Make an A and B session and see what results works better for you.
Is there a benefit to dragging everything into the drum designer versus just using the audio files? Wouldn’t it be harder to adjust things Like syncopation and velocity with Just audio files?
What is the name of the sample pack where you got the hi speed 130 loop from. I've been looking for/trying to recreate that type of sound and haven't been able to find it😭
I liked the second example, altough I agree that sometimes simplicity is pro too. Now in the first example, I actually feel its more amateur after, lol. It sounds more pro, but also waay too generic for my taste. Anyway good video! This one and the others from the channel.. really learning here from them. Thank you man !
So do I need to purchase all those loops to make a FIRE beat? Cuz to be honest with you, I don't have a ton of fundage at the moment. By the way, good video BRO, keep em comin'
most DAW's will have loops and one-shots as stock samples. you can make something that sounds great like splice samples out of those, but that's a completely different kind of skillset. samples are just a time-saver; they are not required to make a good beat.

I do that on some songs, and I will say only really do it if it really compliments the song
A lot of old school house had swing involved so that’s always a good way to go, swing usually is awesome
