I don’t know if you could make a whole video out of that tbh. Most electronic music is either 4 on the floor or the Amen break for DnB stuff

    • @williambrewer3150
      @williambrewer3150 3 года назад +13

House and Techno use the four on the floor beat with different syncopated hi-hat variations. Breakbeat and Drum n Bass very often use the Iconic 8ths rhythm at their respective tempos. Dubstep uses a half-tempo two-beat rhythm, and is sometimes divided 12/8. Most other electronic genres use derivatives of those rhythms.
The most important part of the modern EDM genres' rhythm is a consistent snare beat on beats 2 and 4, or beat 3 for half tempo songs. It's a consistent trend across almost all popular genres of its type. Makes it easy to dance to.
      You're welcome.

I work with heavily disabled people and one woman really likes heavy beats. So I jam for her through the day. She's into hip hop and songs with the "dem bow" (min 4:19). I mimic drum patterns on the back of my guitar and she's headbanging, like she's on a metal stage.

I build these in my sequencer as an exercise. These are the BPMs that kinda worked for me
1 - Four on the floor: 140 bpm
    2 - Trap Beat: 200 bpm
    3 - Bo Diddley: 100 bpm
    4 - 2 beat: 160 bpm
    5 - boom bap: 90 bpm
    6 - dem bow: 100 bpm
    7 - impeach: 100 bpm
    8 - iconic: 100 bpm
    9 - 12/8: 110 bpm
    10 - shuffle: 120 bpm
Would recommend, but I found that 3, 6 and 10 don't work super well with my static drum samples

Hi Matt, thanks for the lesson! I'm just learning to do music production. Not having access to a drummer, I've chosen to get a Maschine Mk3 and learn how to craft beats that way. At 60, with an appreciation of a lot of music styles, I've heard a lot of cool drum/percussion grooves and enjoy them. I really like bands that use multiple percussionists (e.g., Santana, Little Feat, Widespread Panic). My problem is that I don't know how to figure out what different rhythms by different percussion pieces sound great together, and what would sound like, well, you know. I guess that is a type of music theory. While I could just get midi libraries that have cool beats, I'd like to be able to construct them. Do you have any tips, resources on how to learn this without being a drummer? Thanks!

50 and just getting into music production, too! Can you read music? If yes, you can find lots of helpful info in drum/percussion mags showing you exactly what both the kit drummer and the auxiliary percussionist are playing. You can learn a lot from deconstructing their stuff. If you can't read, you can learn pretty quickly, especially if you're mainly focusing o rhythm only.

    Fun facts:
Billie Jean by Michael Jackson uses 4 in the floor
Young dumb and Broke by Khalid uses the trap beat
The theme song for iCarly uses the Bo Diddley
Never enough by Rex Orange County uses the 2 beat
Sunday morning by Maroon 5 ( great song honestly) also uses boombap pattern
Dive by Ed Sheeran uses the 12:8 pattern
I kissed a Girl by Katy Perry uses the Shuffle pattern

I enjoyed this video but it was a pain to play along to with my drums because the order of the drums on the sequencer is different to notation. Much easier to follow if you put the hats on the top row and kick on the bottom.

Is "Impeach the President" also the drum pattern in "the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme?
About "Shuffle", isn't it the drum pattern in "I kissed a girl" by Katy Perry and "So What" by Pink?
