@@lovelycloudyskiesNo. Velma got the highest premiere on a platform infamous from being pricey. It would be difficult to keep long-running shows, which would pay raise the staff for every new season, with an already limited subscriber base. Hence, why South Park and Its Always Sunny are the longest running cable shows: they are cheap. The Simpsons and Family Guy are on broadcast TV, no subscription fee, and last for years despite higher budgets. The reason why Velema got high views is because negative word of mouth caused people (including middle-aged Republicans who take Tucker Carlson seriously, not just terminally online Millennials and Gen Z'ers) to hate watch it. Other shows like Close Enough, proposed Boondocks reboot, Final Space, never got a fraction of the publicity.
It’s easy to be the biggest animated release on your streaming service when you both have very few animated releases and kill all the other animated properties you already had.
Its absolutely fascinating how smug this show is I dont know how else to describe it. Like every time I hear about a "joke" from this series I feel like someone trying to elbow me with knives with them screaming "GET IT?". I am surprised you didnt go in on the reason why they took out Scooby being that they thought it would make it too kid friendly even though Family Guy, one of the most popular adult cartoons to exist, has a talking dog.
The best character without a doubt was the Sheriff, he could have saved the town if he backed up after running over Velma Kaling and finished the job. Gigi was also not bad as I expected her to be from what I’ve seen, she just belongs in a much better show.
For me personally the best character was the air. It went through so much trauma having to make the cast breath and not just let them die was very bold of the air to do
That’s the moment when you realize that this show isn’t a reboot of scooby doo. It isn’t a parody of scooby doo. It’s essentially Mindy Kaling’s fan fiction of scooby doo. (I’ve made fanfics before, so I’m not pretending like I’m better than her). I’m only pointing out that when you think about, this show is not a reboot of scooby doo, it doesn’t even have scooby doo in it. Also, spot on comment you made. Sums up the show quite well.

I've heard someone call Velma the combined character of Rick and Morty. For trying to be both cynical and sympathetic at the same time and not realizing why she's not everyone's favorite character
@FamineTheDeerwolf the older versions of Velma were my favorite characters, because she was a sarcastic but caring nerd who never had beef with Daphne, insulted Fred, or shove Shaggy away because they were her friends.
@@Demonetization_Symbol Usually shows are greenlit for a number of episodes, months in advance. Most network deals only extende for a season or two worth of episodes but for trusted IPs they can get approved for multi season deals. Swhy the second season announcement for Velma came so quickly, WB was just waiting for the viewer count of episodes 1 and 2
Particularly with animation, it is a slow process so most companies will start making the second season before they see how the first one pans out to get a head start. However I heard that they got a third season approved, so hate watching may have done that.
Plus even if it did, that's just money down the drain, since most hate watchers stop on the first season, which means the seconds probably gonna have little to no viewership
You say that, but shows get cancelled all the time. Like, you’re sitting here acting like that same network didn’t cancel a bunch of shows already that had the viewership
The most valuable thing about Velma is that is like The Emoji Movie, a dystopic tale, an urban legend of where the industry was heading if we didn't try to stop it and if it was too late, we couldn't have our voices listened ever again. This is the confirmation.
Norville= Mordecai from Regular Show Both simped over one female for half of their story arc, got another relationship with someone else, finally both were still hung up on the first girl so much, it ruined the second relationship they were in
BoJack Horseman, Venture Bros, Daria. All great solid animations that people keep bringing up when it comes to this dumpster fire and I'm so happy these greats shows are getting more exposure due to how bad Velma is at imitating any of it
The little bit of it I saw was funny but the artstyle just makes me think Fred is gonna look at the camera and say "Aw jeez, gang, this i worse than that one time that I-"
Those live-action Cartoon Network movies from the late 2000s were a far better origin story than Velma is. At least those didn't have contempt towards their own audience and were just forgettable.
i just want to note that hugging or embracing someone during a panic attack is fine under SOME circumstances. my fiance holding me is super grounding when i'm having an episode.
I think if I did watch this show, that scene where Velma laughs at Norville for confessing AND it relieves her of the panic attack is where I would stop. Very few things offend me in this world, but something like that is one of them.
I think Norville’s character might’ve worked if he slowly developed into Shaggy as the show goes on. Perhaps about halfway through season 1, he would try drugs, then in the finale maybe he gets a dog called Scooby and he’s started forgetting about his responsibilities. Then in season 2 (which they already got renewed for) we see him acting more impulsively, even getting a new haircut like the original Shaggy. Only in the finale, he would finally start calling himself Shaggy due to an epiphany he had while high. Not only would this be an improvement as it gives him a character arc, which he lacks in this iteration, but it also coincides with the darker attempts at being subversive that the rest of the show tries to implement.
As I've grown up, I've seen so much hate for Mystery Incorporated, so you don't understand how happy I am to see it get the recognition it deserves. Thank you

I love how my therapists literally saved my life and they’re mocking mental health. Thing is if this is meant to be an origin story then Scooby needs to be introduced eventually (and I don't mean the code name being made Scoobi I mean the actual Scooby) otherwise the question of how Scooby got in will never be answered. It's like having a Sonic the Hedgehog story without having Sonic at all.
On 11:07. Hugging or embracing someone during a panic attack is awful. _Kissing_ them, especially if you did not kiss them before, is borderline sexual assault. *Do not do that. Ever.*
Huh? I literally have an anxiety disorder and I find comfort in being hugged during a panic attack. As long as consent is properly given I don't see why this is some sort of evil crime to you lol The only time I see this as an issue is if its done without asking or when boundaries haven't been set in the person's right state of mind. Specify before making blanket statements like this, I beg!
I "watched" the first two episodes of Velma through EFAP's coverage, and the thing I always say about Velma that puts it on such a low tier is that a lot of the jokes are just bewildering. Like, Paradise PD may not be funny, but at least I can understand a joke being made and what the writers were going for when making it. But with Velma, I don't even know how to react other than confused. One of the more prominent jokes was something along the lines of, "Well at least I'm not an alcoholic mom losing custody of my kids like all other women solving crimes." Like, is that a dig on some stereotype I'm unaware of? A writing trope? Is that what happens to a lot of female investigators IRL? It's just bewildering.
I had the same reaction to the "lesbian cops are good detectives" joke. I couldn't think of a single lesbian cop character so what trope is she talking about?
I have had panic attacks. Velma does an EXTREMELY poor job at portraying what panic attack is like. You don't start hallucinating. Think of the worst moment in your life. Have that moment vividly in explicit detail in your mind play on repeat. Have thoughts that progressively make your thoughts feed into your anxiety making it worse and worse. You breath rapidly. You can feel your pulse. You feel like everyone is out to get you and your life is actually over, but not with your death. You cry uncontrollably, even after calming down some. Your sense feel heightened, but not for your benefit. Things look slightly dull in color. All these are what a panic attack actually feels like and how I can verbally describe it. You don't snap out of it because you find something funny. In truth, in that state of mind, it is nearly impossible to find anything funny, especially if you feel like you are trapped or are in a situation where you cannot simply leave without explaining yourself. To the writer and director, I hope you become jobless and/or homeless. This is beyond offense. It is dangerous and will lead some dumb people to think this is how you help some experiencing a panic attack. You help someone with a panic attack by constantly comforting with words and sincerely tell him or her that he or she will be alright or things will be alright sincerely. Not doing anything for a person experiencing a panic attack is the worst thing you can do since he or she will confirm his or her delusional that no one loves him or her and he or she is truly alone.
i completely agree. its extremely obvious in the way things like this are portrayed, whether they are being portrayed by someone whos experienced it before, or hasnt. this is clearly made by someone who doesnt know a damn thing about it. and its annoying, because pretty much all mental issues have some sort of stigma around them, and dumb shit like this just adds to it.
Giving this show any credit is stupid but every devil needs it's advocate I guess. Velma *technically* isn't having a panic attack, she's having a hypnosis induced hallucination.
@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 And a counterargument would be that: Do you think knowing the track record of the main people behind the show that they actually thought that out? I mean you are right. She is technically not having a true panic attack. However, the show seems to be explicitly declaring at many points, excluding the end, that this is a sincere panic attack. Also, you could say that Velma's "panic attack" is caused by seeming the hallucinations themselves. In that case, still, trying to make the person having the panic attack laugh is a terrible and pointless thing to do. Regardless, they still treat the subject of something like panic attack as a joke. With the revelation that she was hallucinating, the writers of the show are coming across as: "See! She wasn't have a panic attack! She was experiencing vivid panic inducing hallucinations! Isn't that funny?! XD"
If they wanted Velma to be all edgy, sassy, sarcastic, and obsessively adult, they should have at least had her voiced by Cree Summer. A MUCH better sarcastic and sassy actress than Mindy

(Spoiler warning, but who gives a shit) Me and my friend watched through this series while I was sleep deprived, and when Norville (Not-Shaggy) confessed his love, only for Velma to say “What do you mean? You’re like a brother to me.”, we both clutched our hearts and fell over in pain
“Okay what is our most popular shows right now on HBO Max?” “Umm right now it’s Euphoria, *CARTOON REDACTED* and our Scooby-Doo projects” “Okay… what if we combined those two shows for more profit? Who cares how polarizing the concept will be? It will be a success!!” And the worst part is that it worked.

People who think that "hate-watching got the show its second season" don't know how network contracts work.
So how do they work?

On 11:07. Hugging or embracing someone during a panic attack is awful. _Kissing_ them, especially if you did not kiss them before, is borderline sexual assault. *Do not do that. Ever.*
Huh? I literally have an anxiety disorder and I find comfort in being hugged during a panic attack. As long as consent is properly given I don't see why this is some sort of evil crime to you lol
The only time I see this as an issue is if its done without asking or when boundaries haven't been set in the person's right state of mind.
IT would be more accurate for her to hear everytime someone has called her awful or that they hate her and possibly show some small flashbacks
@@Knux5577 Yep.
XD"
