We live in Southwest Louisiana and when our kids were little and hunting crawfish, they would get all excited when they would catch what they called, "Big, red snappers." A lot of our crawfish have red on them and they can be feisty. One day, I got back home to find our dogs going crazy out in the dog yard. (I used to raise and show Yorkshire Terriers.) Being little terriers, they were going nuts and acting like they wanted to kill something. As I walked up to the door, I saw this very large, "red snapper," had gotten onto the carport and up by the door to the dog yard. It was there, brandishing its claws at the dogs. Now, Yorkies don't usually know how small they are, but neither did the crawfish. I "rescued" the crawfish and put it back out in the shallow ditch out front, telling it it was so scary and I couldn't have it scaring our dogs. LOL! I was just being tactful to the little monster, while I was wishing I had a sack full of more crawfish its size to boil...🤣

No expert but there are many possibilities. The couple fish you're questioning could be rather dull colored smallies, could be spotted bass, could be meanmouth bass, and even could be an entirely different but similar unidentified species of bass. The one thing I can say tho is nothing beats those big fat dark smallies. They fight so hard.

I don’t get to catch many very often in my area but when I do I will definitely keep a couple with in the size limits for sure!!! Largemouth and smallmouth are invasive in my area and eat salmon smolt. People here either feed them to the eagles, eat them, are used for fertilizer, or thrown in the bushes. I kill some every year, although I don't ever waste them like some do by chucking them in the bushes.

I am a Master Griller! I can honestly say that both you and your Brother over season all of your fish! Let the fish be the main ingredient of the dish! Lay off the seasoning and allow this flesh of the fish speak for itself. Stop relying on the prepackaged mixes and rely on your own seasonings I have tried the 1st Cast Seasoning and it is not too bad. There are a few things I would adjust with it but hey you do you! If I had a choice between Channel or Blue Cat I would pick Blue and between Blue and Flathead I'd choose Flathead! Small Mouthed verses Large Mouth well Small Mouth. Small Mouth vs. Spotted Bass Small Mouth. I do not eat much Bass period.. only if it is gonna die.. Trout well Wild is always the best but stocked it all tastes the same to me! I do not eat pan fish as they are just way to boney to me as are all members of the carp family. I have never caught a Sturgeon so I can't say to that! All Saltwater fish to me are far superior to any freshwater fish! Which is why I do 90% of my fishing in Saltwater!
That smallmouth sounded crunchy and delicious and I bet it was very good. I think the way you made it I would put it right up there next to bluegill shellcracker pumpkin seed crappie type stuff.
I know you forgot your cutting board and stuff but I couldn't help but cringe at using that metal cover (?Not sure what that is) as the cutting board. That poor knife! Also if you wanna make potato chips, a mandolin could be useful, just make sure to use the guard or other kind of hand protection. I don't think sliced finger fries well.

I’ve caught and ate bass since I was 7. I think some of the tournament guys don’t like people keeping them or maybe it’s a regional thing. In small town Kansas I’ve never heard anyone say anything about eating bass. White bass is way better than largemouths and Smallies though
At 12:50 in the video you caught a bass that is a hybrid bass it is a cross between a Small mouth and a Large mouth bass. Where I come from in SoCal we make sure that we remove these abominations from the water. they are very tasty unlike Large Mouth Bass which I can't stand!

I don't target them, but i caught a large mouth just under 2 pounds a few weeks ago on a minnow and it made the best fish sandwiches.

Hey Micah, take Zicam it's expensive but it's worth it. As soon as you feel something coming on take the Zicam and it'll be gone in about 3 days
