Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think you need to do some research in the different approach marketers use on the labeling of the braid between the JDM and the USDM. JDM focuses on diameter and USDM focuses on break strengths expected after a knot is tied. When lines with the same break strength from each market are straight-line pull tested, the JDM lines are expected to be 60% weaker than a USDM braided line. I prefer the JDM labeling since it is much more true representation of what you are getting and I love keeping it simple with the PE ratings, but you should know the dangers in comparing lines between markets based on label alone.

You are getting confused between the JDM labeling and the US labeling. The JDM labeling can show the actual break strength, sure, but they primarily use the PE rating "gouw" which measures the line's thickness. It is based off the diameter of a line compared to the historical thickness of single strand of silk. The JDM market standardized their measuring between all the manufacturers in 2010 so it is a really good system for measuring diameters of what you are getting so you know how much will fit on your reel. You need to actually test the straight pull strength of the lines to compare a US label to a JDM label. Most lines in the US use a break strength that is closer to the break strength of the line once a knot is tied. Many many braided lines will post 2x the actual break strength than what is listed on the package when tested. Also power pro is a terrible line to compare based on diameter because so much of the diameter is the waxy coating they put on it which will come off after its broken in. What else is crazy is that same US lines when sold in Europe will have drastically different break strength on the packaging since they go with the actual break strengths and mm diameters (closer to JDM). People often confuse this and buy expensive Japanese lines in very thin diameters with comparatively similar break strengths over US market lines. They don't realize that the labels are completely different and a japanese line is roughly 60% weaker when looking at the number on the box. The Japanese care primarily about diameter, US under sells the strength to actual fishing conditions so customers don't have a bad experience. It's the classic apples and oranges scenario.

To compare the diameter of the 2 lines all you have to do is the read carefully the labels; sometimes US lines have diameter stated in thousands of an inch and rest of the world in millimeters.
this is awesome! i bought some couple weeks back. they now have a store in the US and they had a promotion plus the $10 off. got me two for only $40. they are so thin i'm scared to use the lines though....
Please make a proper abrasion, knot and break test, otherwise it really means nothing! The weak point of most japanese PE is abrasion... they are so thin they break easily. Power Pro is often more resistant to abrasion against teh rocks.
Mostly due to the waters both are used in, here on the pacific coast there’s kelp beds and humongous rock everywhere along the coast, very rare to see a fully sandy bottom around the beaches, however in Japan the bottom drops off less than a kilometer off shore, but in my personal experience braid in general isn’t good for abrasion resistance in most applications other than a rough skinned fish rubbing against it or a mildy jagged rock, that’s why most anglers here in California tend to use mono around the shoreline I’ve used daiwas 4x which is supposedly made specifically for higher abrasion resistance and all it takes is a branch in the water and that line is getting cut in half, at the end of the day no matter what weave is used or the brand, braided line is still basically just 4-8 strands of fancy sewing thread twisted into well…a braid, it’s not like mono where it’s just a thin stiff piece of plastic
Hello! What i like with the higher quality japanese braids is that they are much more accurately rated, if you buy a sertain thickness you get that thickness!! The pound test rating of the american lines is all over the place and its a lottery to find the actual thickness youre after! On the powerpro it said 0.13mm diameter, if that were true it should be tinner than pe0.8 which is around 0.15mm... But what about the stiffness of the varivas lines? do they have some 8 strand that has a lttle bit of stiffness and body to it, and retain some of that for a long time? (I like stiff braids for bfs) Tight lines! :)
This is straight from Varivas headquarters: Line stiffness/hardness is a very subjective issue on account of personal preference for 'feel' and variations of line diameter. That being said, however, "Avani Jigging 10x10 Max PE X8" maybe might be what he's looking for. www.varivas.fishing/product/avani-jigging-10x10-max-power-pe-x8/ It has special coating to make the line 'stiff/hard' compare to other lines, because of vertical "jigging" movement required of the line. Also, generally speaking, "thicker" diameter line and "saltwater" product lines can provide longer durability and life span, than say, thinner line. However, it depends on the line and the use. Thicker line is designed to hold up with repeated use of heavier lures and fish.
Love the video but the line comparison is off. If a US labeled line says it has 20lb test, it will break closer to 30lbs. If a JDM labeled line says it breaks at 28lbs, the line you have will likely break BEFORE 28lbs. The JDM is saying for that specific type line, the best they've got was that number. I wish companies would put tensile strength numbers on their labels. That would take into consideration multiple factors, like breaking strain and diameter.
why you did not test how tick they are, and what weight they hold, now this 2o pounds, no make sense for me... better make video 0,10mm line and what weight holds...
When did POWER PRO become the best braid in America,? What is so good about a braid that takes a line the same diameter as every one else's 30 and packages it as 15. Of course it is going to have the highest break strength and abrasion strength.
He made a few vids giving away locations but they are all overfished. There is an app called go paddling that shows all launch locations. Use this in conjunction with google maps to find less pressured spots.
You can not go off the ratings between USA and Jpn lines. Jpn rates it's line to its absolute Max breaking strength where USA lines like PP under rate their lines severely hence the huge diameter difference. 10lb PP breaks around 19-21lb The Varvas breaks within a 1lb or 2 +/- it's rating.. You would really understand if you actually tested the lines in a video. Even a very basic test using a fish scale and your hand wrapped around a round stick would show you just how under rated they are. Look at a company like seguar mono and look at the diameter difference on its fluoro for a given lb rating between its line marketed to jpn vs USA. The USA line will be much thicker for the same rati g. It's because of the moronic us marketing. The jpn companies rated line based on Max strength but found out when sold in usa it made their line look weak as all the USA manf way underrated their line making people think 15lb test is way stronger for say Power Pro when I fact Power Pro was just using much thicker line and giving it a low rating to make it seem stronger than those rating thier line accurately. I will agree with you that Varivas makes the best quality braid except for maybe gosens Casting 16 strand braid. It's likel6 the very best but also very limited and very $$$$ but in 4 and 8 strand Varivas is tops. BTW this same issue carries over to fluoro and mono lines.

Great video now we gotta ask your buddy mark what line he uses lol
For the 3 times the price it better be at least half as thin and twice as strong lol
Hello!
What i like with the higher quality japanese braids is that they are much more accurately rated,
if you buy a sertain thickness you get that thickness!!
The pound test rating of the american lines is all over the place and its a lottery to find the actual thickness youre after!
On the powerpro it said 0.13mm diameter, if that were true it should be tinner than pe0.8 which is around 0.15mm...
But what about the stiffness of the varivas lines?
do they have some 8 strand that has a lttle bit of stiffness and body to it, and retain some of
that for a long time? (I like stiff braids for bfs)
Tight lines! :)
This is straight from Varivas headquarters:
Line stiffness/hardness is a very subjective issue on account of personal preference for 'feel' and variations of line diameter. That being said, however, "Avani Jigging 10x10 Max PE X8" maybe might be what he's looking for.
www.varivas.fishing/product/avani-jigging-10x10-max-power-pe-x8/
It has special coating to make the line 'stiff/hard' compare to other lines, because of vertical "jigging" movement required of the line.
I'm from Sweden and i do love my power pro
Power pro is a great line
A lot of other brand that are on par to varivas why not research on it n try it. Will be more bonus content for ur chanel
why you did not test how tick they are, and what weight they hold, now this 2o pounds, no make sense for me... better make video 0,10mm line and what weight holds...
Try saltiga 12x and you will see the difference.
Yaasss...giveaway giveaway!! lol
That’s a great idea!
You need to get some scientific equipment to test line thickness breaking strain and knot strength
When did POWER PRO become the best braid in America,? What is so good about a braid that takes a line the same diameter as every one else's 30 and packages it as 15. Of course it is going to have the highest break strength and abrasion strength.
maxcuatro is the standard.
Nick seems like your discount code has expired.
Sorry. It’s up and running again.
SHOW MEU IRMÃO
GOSTEI DO VÍDEO E FOI MUITO BOA AS EXPLICAÇÕES
I’ll stick to my bull buster braid
Hey what’s a good kayak spot in gavelston
He made a few vids giving away locations but they are all overfished. There is an app called go paddling that shows all launch locations. Use this in conjunction with google maps to find less pressured spots.
Bottom Line Fishing thank you I will look into that
@@DownSouthAngler freeport also has fantastic fishing
Diameter to diameter they are probably simular breaking strain...you will find power pro breaks close to or above 16 lb
too bad they dont ship to canada
Hello Sr
Japan
Maxcuatro
Japanes standarar raiting are not the same for USA standars. There is a difference, so don’t compare! Make the investigation and you will see.
1. yamato pe line
2. tokayo pe line
3 varivas pe line
my choice.. been used for quite while. All monster fish I caught I been using the same pe line ...pe2 yamato multicolor line...the best pe line so far for me...thin,strong and feels like satin finish.
