    Shasha were mostly regarded as "just comic relief" and people often think that she does not hold a place in the story, Then you see the people around her mourn and change when she died then you realize how much shit she was holding together with her fun and laughter and how much these people crumble. Then you realize that she was a much needed respite for most of these characters.

    Levi" Don't forget the name of the village you slaughtered, you bearded shit" Levi as a character is far from perfect but he always shows how he cares a lot for his comrades, friends even people that he weren't close enough just like people in Ragako village. He looks so cold outside but deep down inside he really cares about others. This what makes his character become bigger and bigger, at least in my heart. And thank you for 31:10 I love your opinions about Levi. And Mappa really did great with this scene from the manga, all the flashbacks behind Levi looks so beautiful, almost like the opening of any Avengers movie I have watched when all superhero characters were shown, thank you Mappa. there are a million and one fantastic things about your thoughts and analysis that make you by far one of the best channels on youtube, but one thing i want to mention about AoT specifically that i really appreciate is that i think you are one of the very few people i've run into who really understood just how much Eren is changed by those memories and who actually keeps that in mind. i strongly believe that while Eren is still ultimately kinda responsible for his actions, that identity pollution is really important, and yet i've genuinely almost never encountered anyone who actually factors it into their reading of the story despite what a big plot point it is and the fact that this (and a few other cases of identity damage from titan memories) is pretty explicit. there's a lot more i could say but i'm exhausted right now and i only really have the energy to highlight that one thing. it's incredibly refreshing and as someone who has seen a whole lot of extremely weird and shallow readings of this series i appreciate it a whole lot

    For the commentors, I never really was sure.... did Levi confirm in this episode that pyxis and so on were planning on having Eren eaten? I think that's what was said, but I am not sure because of translation and so on... So basically their surrender or plea for cooperation was a lie (understandable, but still it put's the yeagerist into a better light.)

    • @purpleemerald5299
      @purpleemerald5299 3 месяца назад +4

      To me, it seemed like Levi merely deduced that’s what Pyxis would most likely be doing, but he obviously didn’t have a way to know that for a fact while still out there with Zeke.
      And while Floch also assumed the same, I only recall there being concrete confirmation that the Military Police were planning to replace Eren.
      And since Pyxis would naturally be coordinating with the Military Police now…well…there isn’t much reason to think Pyxis _wouldn’t_ want to replace Eren if he could at this point.
      I think it’s only left unclear because there ends up being no time for Pyxis to decide on concrete plans, anyways.

    I never found Gabi annoying. I would always scoff at people saying she is because I knew from the exact moment I saw that she was just like Eren.
    And if I didn't hate Eren, I would be a hypocrite to hate Gabi, for what she is doing is the same as what Eren was. In multiple facets too. Eren hated titans, but he is also one. Gabi hates Eldians, but she is also one.
    Both have suffered from their hated foe, and both have the means to fight back.
    If anything, I was the most hopeful of Gabi. Everything she is going through, Eren went through it first. And we see what Eren has become, which means we can only hope the same does not occur to Gabi.
    But eh, I guess people are rather petty. Such is the message of AoT, the sheer pettiness of people would threaten to perpetuate a cycle of hate and death until the world is gone.

    23:00 to your point here, it bothers me that people paint the painter as a complete lunatic who lost his mind from drugs and never had a human thought or any level headed or effective ideas.
    Not because I don't want them to think poorly of him, but, because when you describe him that way he doesn't sound like a real person, and so you won't recognize the danger of a person like him if they were to gain popularity.
    He was a normal person. He liked animals, he liked art. He fought for his country, was disappointed in the leadership of his country and somewhere along the way he got corrupted and did evil, evil things. It's not as obvious as a villain in a trenchcoat twirling his mustache from the shadows.
    (Seemingly) Normal people are capable of horrible things, and normal people are capable of compartmentalizing and letting horrible things happen (what you don't know can't hurt you, plausible deniability).
    It scares me that I see things like this in my government today, America. I'm sad to see what they do to people and that people are okay with it. And I'm even more scared that when I try to talk about the history that you guys went through, or the things we've done post WWII, people don't know the root cause of why people were able to be manipulated and pressured in very much the same ways..
    I've been loving your take on this series :)

    In regards to Gabi and being hated - at that point in the show I was already tired of the fighting. Exhausted from the worry that every “cool flashy action scene” is the risk that one of them dies. And with the introduction of the Marleyan characters, who i deeply care for, every engagement is CERTAIN to hurt or kill someone i care about.
    I didn’t hate Gabi. Sasha got shot in a war, it happens. It’s fucked. I hated Eren and the rest of them for going in (although I understand they were “forced” to).
    At that point in the story, i felt that Eren is the person who’s hurting the characters I love. Not Gabi.

  • @CeleriaRosencroix
    @CeleriaRosencroix 3 месяца назад +1

    27:00 Gabi is unfortunately a very controversial and divisive character. I can quite appreciate her, because I understand and love what Iseyama was doing with her, but many people do not like having a mirror held up to reflect their soul and force them to question their convictions in that way. She makes many people feel a sort of anguish and frustration as a result, and some dislike how she became a major point of view to follow, especially with how her conflicts and emotions force us to confront the child soldier aspects of the story and the consequences for putting people into those situations (even more directly than had been done previously by forcing the audience to recognize what Reiner and Bertholt were going through).
    It's also the case that some people were frustrated with how we essentially were given a naive, undeveloped version of Eren after all the development he went through before that point. That is what most people found "annoying," I think. The audience was like, "We've learned these lessons already!" at times.

      They spent 5 years on Paradis and came face to face with the truth constantly, yet they not only still continued killing the people, they even kept calling them devils.
      Meanwhile Gabi, who was arguably even more fanatical than they were, spent a considerably shorter amount of time on Paradis, but changed not only her way of thinking but also how she acted (even stopped calling them devils).
      The warriors should have reached that stage after Marco, but they didn't.

    • @lucidiously
      @lucidiously 3 месяца назад

      @@carljohan9265 Definitely, if anything it's almost unrealistic how quickly Gabi changes.
      She's been indoctrinated all her life, then the devils invaded her home and killed her friends, brutally reinforcing that worldview.
      Yet it only takes her like a month living amongst them (and going through several more traumatic events) to do a complete 180.
      Though to be fair to the warriors, the dissonance between what they believed to be true and the actuality of living on Paradis broke all of them. Failing their mission could also put their family in danger. And while they keep calling the Paradisians devils, it doesn't seem like they truly believe that at that point, it's more a way for them to detach themselves so they can focus on the mission.

There is nothing in the writing of her character that I would change to make it "better". There's a lot of people like your friend who HATE Gabi with passion bc they see this "angry brain washed child that shot Sasha" and don't stop to think why everything she does makes total sense. It's very easy to hate Gabi bc of her actions, but I'd argue it wouldn't be "fair" to hate her for this. If it wouldn't ruin the story for them, I'd be EXTREMELY interested, in a study where ppl who know nothing about Attack on Titan are shown the first 7 episodes of Season 4 FIRST, with all the input about our "Eldian Heroes" cut out. And then ask them how they see Gabi. I am pretty sure that most would have a very different opinion on her, had they not been given the context of the first 3 seasons.

So we Can assume like about marlo dying by a rock, she was dreaming being at home with her lover asking are we eating soon Nikku ? What an easter egg doesnt it ? Tough it was never confirmed by issayama

    27:25 I mean, she _is_ annoying! Very well-written and justifiable and all, but still pretty annoying. She kept repeating the same rhetoric and didn't think to use her brain until the last minute, so "annoying" is an understatement lol

    So many opinions on Gabi so here's mine 😂 annoying, yes, especially that she saw island Eldians but she refused to accept really (up to episode we see here, I'm not talking about later), that was honestly what i "hated". On the other hand i like the character development and how it turns out. In conclusion - begging Gabi hate and annoyance, later Gabi i approve off xd

    My reaction to Gaby was more negative then yours I would say I found her a bit annoying and enojoyed it very much when the universe humbled her in the barn with the horse. I knew what they were going for, paralleing her with Eren. But I never felt it really worked for me. When Eren was attacked he was an innocent kid that didn't know anything at all. When Gabi was attacked she was part of the military, she knew what was going on and supported it. So in that way alone her argumentation rings hollow. She say they attacked my friends first, but that's really not true. (Eren literally attacked AFTER Marley and the world declared war on him, not to mention the attack 4 years ago, and the gate guards aswell as Udo and Sophia were also military)
    Eren's hate for titans is totally justified, and his "hate" for Marley is aswell. Marley threw the first stone after they were living peacefully side by side.
    Gaby's hate is not justified. She is on the wrong side of history (Though it is understandable, and Gaby is a well written character). I also get annoyed when reactors uncritically compare Gabi and Eren. (You are the first, that's aknowleding that they are parallels but not the same)
    So I can't symphazize as much with gaby as others seem to. But still as I said a very well written character. Just here her learning about the people that she hates is great. Her struggle with it. And yes I would also say it is realistic. And as a plot device she is also great.

      Eren didn’t attacked after the world declared war on them …..
      It was literally zeke’s plan to unite the world and call tybers LOL
      And eren literally says he saw all of it in the future memories and it DIDNT CHANGED
      (or he wanted that path you can see the ramzi scene he saw ramzi being bullied and what did he do to change it ? NOTHING
      He saw in his future memories that he will save him and he literally DID THE SAME )
      He said all this when crying in front of ramzi
      He already knew war was going to be declared
      And let me tell you one thing about
      ‘Paradise threat theory’ which is literally IN THE MID TITLE CARD of one of the episodes of s4 part 1
      I SUGGEST YOU TO GO AND SEE IT
      It says that some parts of the world wanted paradise to be eradicated because of their 2000 years of war and history BUT ALSO they were afraid because eren had the power to initiate the rumbling and he could do it whenever he want and stomp them
      So they obviously thought it was better to kill eren than them being killed by eren
      So sorry to say to you but you shouldn’t emphatise with eren actually because he is REAL BAD GUY

      @@AM17titan Eren can't change anything because it would mean putting the plan to save Mikasa, Armin and the others at risk. Remember that all this has been defined since the attack titan was created.

      Gabi’s a literal child with the fight groomed into her tiny child brain. Marley was r*ped, killed and flat out exterminated for THOUSANDS of years.
      It hardly matters how fucked the world’s hatred is, we have to keep the kids out of it regardless.
