My daughter also has SMA but is still only a toddler so she doesn't fully realise what is going or how it affects her. This disease is awful 😞 I've had a lot of dark days since her diagnosis seeing her unable to do things that her peers can and knowing what this disease does.
But its videos like this, seeing people with SMA doing the best they can to overcome the challenges of everyday life and stay positive, that give me hope for my daughter's future.

Despite her obvious physical restrictions she was extremely independent with the help of a few PCAs like myself. She has a wickedly hilarious sense of humor and is able to make fun of herself. She is happily in a relationship with an able-bodied man. Have faith in your daughter because I’m telling you she will surprise you with everything she will accomplish! Chris, you mentioned people treating Aaron like a kid. See that's the problem, kids shouldn't even be talked down to. They are human beings and deserve respect as well. So when people stop seeing kids as lesser, they'll stop seeing people with disabilities that way too. Because people won't automatically think, "ok kid talk, cause this person is less smart like a kid". That's why I love that you speak to kids and adults the same way.

Gen Z here! I’ve been watching since I was 15 and this channel has been really formative to my personality and outlook on how I feel about myself and my own disabilities. Getting diagnosed with BPD, PTSD, and GAD I felt hopeless especially in the healthcare system which has a lot of cracks I slipped through throughout childhood and well into my early 20s. I was left feeling alone and my outlook on life was completely non existent. I had a very sheltered childhood and I came to see everyone featured in the videos as my family and friends and I’ve never had the chance to thank everyone for showing me happiness will win!

"This plant" has been used medicinally in VT for several years and will be allowed to be used recreationally very soon.
It's very weird for me coming to age in the mid 70's when my friends vowed when we grew up it would be legalized!
On a more serious note. "This plant" literally saved my life during two very bad bouts of depression. I have a friend who is prescribed it for chronic pain and another for off-setting the effects of chemotherapy.
It is NOT like other scheduled drugs and is MUCH safer than alcohol as a recreational release. Not for children, but for responsible adults. But a must for mediational treatments.

Aaron, listen to me please! You are not average (tho I kinda love the way you use ‘average’ instead of the godawful ‘normal’). You are very funny, you are extremely articulate, you are a chatterbox and an extrovert, you are super warm and friendly and you are strong and brave beyond all imagination. You are very driven as you say, you are clearly not afraid to take risks, you are extremely positive and hugely warm-hearted … The list goes on, but you are anything BUT average or boring! Just because your routines perhaps have to be more rigid than other people’s because of your condition, or because you are working very hard towards your goal(s) doesn’t make YOU boring! And I can assure you that after watching this interview with you, nobody will ever think of you as that! You are exceptional, and that’s the main reason that, at the time of writing, your video has already been viewed over 12 thousand times! You are an exceptional human being, and please don’t ever believe otherwise! And also, not that it should matter either way, your speech is extremely intelligible, you express yourself extremely well and you’re really good-looking!! You remind me a lot of my 20 y.o godson, who is the most gorgeous young man I know!!
On the subject of That Plant 😉 - it makes me so so angry to hear you have so much trouble getting hold of it! For it to be able to help so many people with so many different diseases actually vastly improve their own quality of life, yet for it to still be banned medically in most of the developed world is absolutely outrageous!! Opioids are FAR more addictive and vast numbers of opioid addicts begun the habit through having it initially prescribed for pain - so WHAT is their deal with This Plant?? It is just so wrong to ban and make illegal such valuable painkilling medicine that massively improves the quality of life of people afflicted with all kinds of severe and chronic conditions!
    THIS HAS TO CHANGE!!!
Thank you so much, Aaron, for highlighting both this important issue as well as the stigma surrounding even the medicinal use of cannabis, and for such a fascinating and uplifting interview. I will definitely be checking you out on your other socials as your story and your personality have just blown me away!! 😘😘😘

You're a strong and awesome person. The challenges you go through day-to-day are things most of us will never understand. My friend Devin has the same condition and he was my wheels in university. I walk with a cane, and he used to give me rides on the back of his chair whenever we needed to go somewhere quick/long distances. Best team. I help him with movements and and eating etc. Glad to have another amazing story out there to shed some light and positivity on your diagnosis. Don't let people ever take your voice away from you. If they don't take the time to listen, that's a loss for them. No one but you can tell you your capabilities and worth. Never stop proving the world wrong. Muchlovealways

Great perspective. Don't focus on what we've lost, focus on what we have. Such grace and gratitude. Aaron, you spoke about whether you would even be the same person if you didn't have SMA, and that shows how much love and respect you have for yourself as a person. I hope more people can find that kind of self-respect in their lives. Thanks for sharing and allowing us to reflect on this and so many other awesome things you said. Peace.

I loved hearing this conversation. Ive had such bad experiences being shamed over "the plant" that I was stunned by the open comments. Yall didnt have to talk about it and Im so happy you chose to. Most people dont relate that to being driven and goal oriented. Thats very cool to hear.

It's nice to meet you on SBSK, Aaron. From this video, it's easy to see that you are thoughtful, intelligent, know what you want, smart, and good looking. Wishing you and Gen Zers the best.
Millennials are cool too, Chris. Gen X here, and we use the words vibe and resonate... You can feel someone's vibe or the vibe in the room or at a place, and you may or may not vibe (resonate) with it. You can also send good vibes (energy, thoughts, prayers, love as in agape) from a distance to someone or a situation with respect for their personal space and free will. You exude good vibes, Chris.

Wow that is very shameful about the social media censorship. That's half the reason I've left social media. Thank you both for finding a way to get around "the machine" and talking about it anyway! On a similar note I'm glad this channel is allowed comments again! I signed the petition! Much respect.
