I like that they included the caregiver in this video! Just a testament to the family and how much they value her. I love how they also highlighted the need for more funding for caregivers. It takes a lot of trust to allow someone to take on that role outside of your family, and an excellent caregiver really deserves the WORLD!
Being a caregiver is one of the hardest jobs. I had many hard jobs in my life (now retired), but being a caregiver was by far the hardest, yet the most rewarding. Definitely the lowest paying, which is a shame.

A family in their position has had strangers they entrusted their son with fully since GO, but having them in your home for the majority of their shift does feel different. The differences can work both ways, too, as in levels of trust, ability to all feel at ease with arrangement. A great caregiver is priceless!
I was a normal little boy until I was 9. I started have weakness on the right side of my body, but in 1984 you never heard of a child having a stroke so it took the doctors to properly diagnose it as such. You are such a special person and it's clear how much Bret and his family adore you. Its heartwarming seeing how the two of you interact, picking up on the little nuances in each other's movements and vocalizations, it seems so intuitive and natural. Like you've known each other your whole lives and are totally comfortable. Just warm and soothing vibes. I'll bet you're a wonderful momma and friend. It's really cool that you listen to music together and sneak in some of your faves too haha. It was my dream to work with developmentally disabled/cognitively impaired children and adults, in high school I was fortunate enough to be one of 12 students selected to work with these special people, and 20 years later it's still the most fulfilling thing I've had the privilege to participate in. I have fond memories of every one of those kids (even Aletha, who socked me in the face and gave me a nosebleed in the HS swimming pool!) and think of them often. What I would do to be given the chance to do it again... Keep doing what you're doing, your presence is invaluable ❤

After years, she was finally able to communicate through button pushing I believe and she was expressing how she is trapped in her body and she is 100% healthy inside and just can't control her body. I always feel that anyone in this type of condition, is 100% in their head, trapped. Bret loves his family!

I am a 24/7 caregiver for my grandma that has dementia. It is sooo tough but also have such a hard time trusting anyone else. Going to try a day care but respite (at least her going somewhere else) is not really an option because it’s more disruptive to the routine than worth the “break” it would give. I am envious of the community they have! Friends even that check in, amazing! So many family even have left since my grandma was diagnosed and of course more so as she has progressed with it. Hugs and happiness for this family and their caregiver! 🤗

You are pure awesome! A true earth angel. God bless you! Thank you for your service to God's children.
@nbonegre24 what is your accent? I hear African regions , I hear some carribean influences and some Louisiana sounds lol.
Thank you for your hard work, it does not go unnoticed. Hopeful someday society will reward people who make the sacrifice and show selflessness for others beyond the typical fanfare behind what we colloquially would refer to as “heroes”. You’re a hero.
He LOOOOVES you♥🙏🏼❤🩹🤍 wow. What an impact you’ve made on this young man’s life. So beautiful to watch and witness:). We all think you are just beyond awesome 👏
You're amazing!!
“We seem to agree on everything we talk about-he never tells me I talk too much” 😂😂😂 Dad’s gentle humor is too funny & wholesome! ❤ Love this family.
Sis is amazing. Whole family is.
His sister is so sweet. She obviously loves him and cares about him so much. Bret is a very lucky young man 🙂🩷
Wish this dude n his fam the best. They seem like a good family.
What a lovely family!! It's clear that Bret has touched the lives and hearts of everyone who's met him. His parents are so warm and open, his sister clearly loves her brother with all her heart, and his caretaker is so sweet and fun! Thank you to Bret and his family for this interview and to Chris for doing it!
@@KT-Kaboom i'm llllllllo
Such a good reminder for me to love my family where they are at unconditionally. Unconditional love is such a powerful thing.
“Just live your life.” No 2 families are the same. ❤
I wasn't ready for this to end. Bret has a beautiful family & caregiver. He is right where he's supposed to be. Thank you for sharing a little bit of his life with us. Happy New Year.
Interesting to see how he responds to different caregivers, with mom he was very vocal, with his caregiver he was looking straight at her and obviously listening, then with dad he was quiet and self soothing. Wishing him and his family the best
I love his caregiver. She treats him like a neurotypical adult. Love it.
SBSK videos always leave me with a happy/sad feeling. Happy that there are so many amazing family members and caretakers who dedicate their lives to loving a person with special needs, but sad because you really do see the toll it takes on these people. Thanks SBSK for the great work you do, and for these amazing families and their caretakers.
Special needs isn't a choice after all.
❤
I love the sense of humor of the dad, the loving mom, and of course Brett. And we all drool some, Brett. No shame there
His caregiver is an angel. Just amazing.
At 3:50 where his mom is talking about where his older sister was so proud of him brought me to immediate tears and I never cry!! Truly amazing
i saw this too ! he seemed so happy and you can tell they really love each other 💚 i’m glad you saw it too :)
Everyone, including Bret, is just beautiful. The dad is so strong and supportive, the mom, so nurturing and loving, the sister's love and compassion melts my heart and the caregiver is just awesome! Bret is a handsome young man that is so blessed to receive all the love and kindness he needs and deserves.
Bret being handsome is super obvious. Just look at his jawline. He has a gigachad jaw.
He seems very calm around his care giver! You can tell he loves her.
ohhh 🥺🥺🥺🥺 it's such a delight that his caregiver loves him so much
and that they hope that other people with disabilities are loved like bret is loved
Amazing parenting and caregiving...Bret seems to understand so much. I am so glad he is in such a loving and supportive home.
Bret is just awesome! He's having a great and caring family and a great caregiver! Some of folks don't have it and only could wish for it, sadly.
He’s so attentive with this caregiver!!! What a blessing all the people in his life and Brett are
"There's not a pill that can change him." Exactly. I'm glad these parents realize this and just Love him anyway. No matter what, please just Love. 💜
very nice that something seemingly negative, brett's condition, inspired something positive by the sister helping others
Hi Brett, my name is Jacob. I hope you have a great day today! And a Very Merry Christmas to you and all your love ones. 💗💖
🎉❤proud
You have a merry christmas too ❤
Merry Christmas Jacob❤
Merry Christmas ⛄🎁
Merry Christmas Jacob!🎄❤️
17:36 this broke me because not everyone has a family that loves them as much as they love Bret 😭❤️ that mother is really special
Merry Christmas to the sbsk community!
Merry Christmas Fellow SBSK Community Member! Praying you are blessed in a special way.🎄❤️
🎄A Very Merry & Safe Christmas Everyone!!❤
Same to you!
Merry XMas and happy New Year🙏🏼
Happy 2025 everyone!!
His whole demeanor changes everytime his mom is near. Relaxed and smiling. Bless the family ❤❤
Can this caregiver come make me get out of the house?? She is a beautifully radiant angel on earth. Seems like such a fun person to be around.
Love how much she and Bret adore each other. ❤
I would like to join music class! 😊
I was just thinking the same thing when I found your comment
Aww- I know how you feel lol! It's a lonely culture.
@@Mana-with-Heather it truly is
This family and caregiver are so sweet, their outlook on life and the way they love him is so beautiful. It is so nice to meet Bret and all of you :)
He has the best caregiver anyone could ask for! She is such a sweet person 🙏
I'll never forget watching a story of a special needs girl very similar to Bret, same type of movements, non verbal. After years, she was finally able to communicate through button pushing I believe and she was expressing how she is trapped in her body and she is 100% healthy inside and just can't control her body. I always feel that anyone in this type of condition, is 100% in their head, trapped. Bret loves his family!
The mom is so sweet with Brett. And he touches her so gently... Sweet dad and sister and caregiver, too.
I think there's more to Bret than what's realized. I saw recognition & behavioral differences & noted he was sensitive to his sister's emotions.
Glad he's loved & appreciated ❤🤗!
His Caregiver is a GEM!
She's pure love. No money can buy....
@@TaylorJohnson-ur8ekwithout money she wouldn’t do it 😂
I have the feeling this sweet young man understands every…single..word..he hears…
Beautiful parenting
His caregiver is amazing.
It’s great that Brett is happy and comfortable and loved. So glad his caregiver is such a jewel! Everyone is handling the situation so well!
1:57 My wife doesn't like when I say "it is what it is" but it really transforms your outlook on life and makes things easier.
Amen
I need to adopt this thinking
@@mirandastephens4586the key is knowing when to apply it. If something is out of your control, then yes it is usually the healthiest way to think.
Brett is wonderfully expressive. An American Mr. Bean.
The best part is he is obviously from a loving and kind home.
Brett you are a blessing to all who know you!
I hope you can experience the fun of bike trails, model train videos and comedies.
Thank you for being kind.😊
Everyone was great, but Bret’s sister is such a pure soul. She’s so genuine and emotional as she shared about Bret.
Bless people like Brett’s sister, we need more people like her in this world. Sending love from California ❤ 4:31
You can tell he was sad about her crying, such a sweet family
His sister being so emotional and the story the mother told about her bringing him to show and tell in 3rd grade tells you how much she loves Bret and how special their relationship is. Wonderful family! I noticed how calm he is around his caregiver. She’s so beautiful.
Being so early postpartum is so emotional, but Brett’s sister is killing it ❤ What a sweet, amazing sister. Brilliant family, all around!
crying from how tender his mother is. this is so sweet
The dad is so right. So many family's struggling on their own and need serious help. The access to those resources to caregivers and doctors and what not is so needed. I hope for a better world and that more people can have a family like Brett's. They seems so wonderful and so does the caregiver
That dad is so down to earth. What a good dad and husband, and all around good family and support system.
Hi Brett, I love the way you show your affection and appreciation to your family and friends. Thanks for being on SBSK so we could meet you and appreciate you too!
You know what I desperately hope and pray for everyone?? That this young man gets diagnosed and treated asap.
Why? He can’t be “cured”. They’ve made peace.
I'm sure it would've been frustrating to not get a diagnosis and not see Bret improve much at school and in therapy.... but u guys kept going and that's what matters!!!
Awesome parents, sister and caregiver!
Just watching Brett I instantly relaxed. Wow. He has a real effect even on strangers. 😊
I just can’t imagine how complicated it must have been at the beginning but thank you because Brett is surrounded by wonderful people, I send all my respects, love and strength for his parents who are human but with the strength of gods 💛🕯️
It's makes proud to his family helping him and loving him No matter what, Bret your an amazing guy I hope your enjoy every day of your life and meet more amazing people.
You can tell the love his caregiver & he have for each other! I worked with many cp kids as a home Health nurse. Definitely loved my kiddos👏❤️🤗
These parents are the G.O.A.T. of all parents. We all need to be amazing parents like Brett has, I wish the family nothing but the best.
What a delightful loving family. You are truly role models for families facing difficult circumstances and getting thru it together. Merry Christmas from Florida.
Bret is so sweet.
His parents are awesome.
His sister is every sibling's dream to have.
Poor guy. I do feel for him! He seems to be the sweetest! ❤❤❤. Big hugs to him!
That’s incredible that he goes the bathroom it’s an amazing routine and very very hard to achieve with severe non verbal , mostly because you need caregivers who are patient and willing to commit to getting there. Amazing family .Remarkable . ❤
That caregiver is a godsend (in addition to his super supportive family).
What a great family including the caretaker. Happy holidays. 🙏🏼
Hello Brett and family. I went for years without a diagnosis and I can relate to going for a long time without knowing, having to keep searching for a doctor who listens. My mother is my caregiver. She is 80. I worry about being too much for her. Brett, I know how grateful you are for your parents. Much love to you and to you all. Thank you for sharing.
So touching to see the amount of love they have for Bret! The caregiver is beaming with affection. Beautiful channel.
The way Brett looks at his family and interacts is so touching. It is obvious he is loved and well taken care of!
I am my mom's full time caregiver for 13 years. She has dementia. It is literal self sacrifice when you have no help from family. My mom gives any home help a really hard time. It is a very isolating life for me but I love her.
There's so much I could say... This families support is awesome.
I feel so much love in these videos. When you have the absence of language you have touch.
I like that the whole family is petting him and letting him know he is supported and loved. You can tell he is well taken care of and loved!
