    I had the same progression as you: arcade -> realistic-> sim. Now I play DCS. I enjoyed my time in Warthunder, but I can’t go back. As you noted you found sim mode to be more rewarding than realistic. Maybe because it is more immersive forcing the player view to be from the cockpit. I find DCS to be even more immersive with interactive cockpit controls. But DCS has a learning curve. I’m not sure I would be playing it if I didn’t start off progressing through Warthunder games modes first.

      Yeah I might progress to DCS in the future like you, but at the moment I feel like War Thunder is easier to just jump into a game with. Correct me if I am wrong.
      Maybe when I get more interested in immersion than pvp :)
      I agree, War thunder have been really important to funnel players to DCS and the whole air combat genre which is a good thing.

      I came from DCS actually, of course I still fly it but I've been enjoying the variety of aircraft with actually fairly realistic flight models compared to the DCS counterparts. I usually just turn off the HUD for full immersion and fly out with friends. It's actually really good, probably comparable to Flaming Cliffs 3 on DCS, though slightly lower quality of course.

      @@involuntarycommander8804 I don't believe you will like DCS - every time I upgrade my gpu I update the DCS and try it - every few years - DCS is still looking terrible and doesn't work smooth (even on 3080) . Very few players and just boring flying around. The fun with DCS for me was only while learning how to take off properly. I am only flying ww2 aircraft there, maybe it is more interesting with the modern planes but it is not my thing.

    Welcome to sim. I should mention, you should not ride the throttle like you would do in arcade or realistic. If your plane is overheated for too long, the engine will quit on you. In addition, if you need the WEP and cant use it because your engine is overheated - it can get you killed. This is more of an issue in the higher tier prop planes.

    it also gives users a chance to apply any sort of tactic that their planes excel at to combat, when you're not limited by the 5-10 minute RB match time. Something like the P47 or any american boom and zoom aircraft are seen as pretty bulky and useless in most aspects because they require sideclimbing for so long, but they can be devastating in sim and flying american aircraft has only been an enjoyable experience when I made the switch to SB

      DCS: about 1000 players monthly
      Il-2: 300 players monthly
      War thunder: 60 000 players monthly.
      Let's say only 2% play sim battles in War thunder it still would be the biggest "sim" game. (Console players excluded).

    Yea i agree with you War thunder simulator feels like a completely new game to me after arcade and simulator. To guys who are new no you do not need hotas to play simulator. It will be challenging at first with mouse and keyboard but when you figure it out it is as good as hotas and i speak from my own experience since i play both ways. When im lazy to plug my hotas and i just want to jump in endurance for 20 min i play with mouse and keyboard. One thing i do when i swap between these 2 i have saved keybind profiles so i can load them right away and im good to go.

    • @involuntarycommander8804
      @involuntarycommander8804  Год назад +1

      @AndreasNK Год назад +1

      @@involuntarycommander8804 Well i am kind new too but the more i play the more i realize its about right position between you and your target than aiming. So yea you should try to get high energy and place your plane's nose properly against your target. (aim with plane's nose). Something like that guy on your video who "stole" your kill. He actually did what i try to learn and i try to say here. High energy you shoot you go. The more you stay on a rate fight the higher chance someone will get you before you get your target. Its how i die most of the times chasing a target on a rate fight not paying attention on my 6. Now for longer shots i am not sure i avoid these.

    Any tips for learning to sim better with WWII aircraft? I find it very difficult to get guns on target for any amount of time. My gunsight will just bounce all over the place. I use a pretty decent joystick and do very well with jets but props are a very different.
    Do you do anything specific with your axis control settings or sensitivity to help overcome the ‘bouncy’ nature of the aircraft controls in props?
    If so, do you revert those changes when flying jets?

    • @involuntarycommander8804
      @involuntarycommander8804  Год назад

      I use a linear axis for the pitch control. It is better for my muscle memory.
      Also, tune down the pitch axis sensitivity. You will lose some turn rate and the ability to recover from a dive if you turn the sense down too much. But it could be worth it if you feel that your aim is to jumpy.

    I will admit Warthunder Sim is pretty fun but only thing that's been bugging me is the lack of realism and, yes I am aware Warthunder has recently added more realistic hit physics when firing at aircraft as like in IL-2, but I still feel like it lacks a bit of realism and still has a bit of an arcade feel to it, if you want a more realistic feel I'd recommend Il-2 it also feels more of a challenge when it comes to managing ww2 aircraft and navigation, only downside of IL-2 is how hardware demanding it is just to enjoy the experience but not as bad as Microsoft flight sim, while IL-2 ( new series) doesn't have a lot of aircraft as Warthunder it can still be enjoyable to many.

    • @involuntarycommander8804
      @involuntarycommander8804  Год назад +4

      Yeah the realism is perhaps not equal to IL-2 and it is probably beyond repair with all the premium aircraft. But there is a decent number of players in warthunder SB with an OK matchmaking system with objectives while flying in the game. I also have hope for the longevity of the game due to the fact that there is a steady influx of new player from RB who is willing to dip their toes into a slightly more realistic flight experience. Which probably spills over to IL-2 and DCS.
      And I also think it is really good that IL-2 and DCS exists for the sake of competition in the flight sim genre.

But, I have been using the lowest sensitivity on pitch sensitivity settings, and the default pitch axis settings.

    Lmao I never knew I was a huge Chad for play sim battles with a controller on default binds but from the looks of this comment section im forced to believe i'm the only one who can do so 😅😅 at most an m&k is helpful but like why do yall need a whole cockpit setup in ur living room to play a dang sim battle? I wont say its easy but its deffo not hard even on controller lol

      For me, I would not want to use a mouse & keyboard after purchasing a Joystick. But I think it is good that there are decent m&k controls so that people can try out sim before they invest in a Joystick. I think this is a huge contributor to how many ppl end up testing sim out in the first place. And more ppl in sim is good :)

    RB sucks ass. I'm primarily a sim player but will do some casual arcade when I just wanna club some seals for fun.

    Jaysus, to call that SIM is a joke, i started with Warthunder in 2013 and finished it in the same year. We had many reallife pilots that time, offering help to Gaijin with Flight modells and such stuff, but they wanted mass instead class. 3. person, mouseaim and such crap, its ok in Arcade but „Sim“? No thanks, it looks good yes, but thats all. The game died for me when i met american Premium plans of the pacific theater above Bastogne. I prefer DCS and IL2 series , never touched WT aagain. But everyone can play whats joy for, the radte is different and thats ok, for me in personal WT is dead and i payed a lot to bring it further years ago

      I agree it is a bit weird when aircrafts from 7 nations are flying on the same map. I see DCS or Il2 as games more for the high immersion and warthunder for decent immersion but easy to just get into a game and get some action.

      Sim is first person only and the only mouse-based aiming available is mouse-joystick.
