  • This one pops up often as a question on this channel and in the facebook group for it. Many times this can be fixed just by using Inkstitch/Fill Tools/Break Apart Fill Objects. Sometimes you have to fix it manually, like I do here.
Here is a deep dive of me fixing many (9ish?) border crosses itself issues manually. Hope it helps.

i usually just choose much easy way....join all nodes in the entanglement and transform node shape round...not moving every node up down....

i've got a weird issue. although i've successfully made my patterns, there's 1 quirk about inkstich that i'd love to iron out. i'm going to use a solid object as an example. if i make a solid color circle, it will make the underlay stitching, then begin the real stitching going from the bottom up. once it reaches about 3/4 of the way up, it stops stitching, jumps to the top of the circle, then starts stitching its way down until it meets where it last left off. how can i make it not do this? if i disable underlay, it will go from the bottom all the way up, but then i won't have underlay, which i want.. besides that, if it starts from the bottom, works its way up, jumps to the top and works its way down until it meets, the last line "where it meets" looks slightly devoid of stitching (not completely, but you can tell it's a strange line that should not be there since this is a single solid color object).
this is also mostly apparent on donuts, because it is required to make this type of jump stitch. start from bottom, stitch up, only stitch one side of the donut, and once it reaches the top, it will leap to finish the other side of the donut, but have that strange undesired line. hoops are fine, tightness is not an issue. it's literally having to do with inkstitch. using a brother se600.

You might have to play with this a bit, but using your example. Draw big circle, no stroke, fill any color. Params - it does understitch, half fill, jumps to the other side completes fill....
select the circle, inkstitch > commands > attach command to selected object. check start fill and end fill positions, apply, close.
params - now should be the understitch half/halfs it, but the fill completes in one pass.
      See if that helps

So I often have roundish shapes with 1-3 nodes and I constantly get border crossing itself. Sometimes if I make a new node next to it and delete the trouble node it will fix it. However sometimes this isn't the trick and it still errors out. What could be the problem? Are all the nodes inverted somehow?

Also if you could make more vids like this with different shapes I think that would be very helpful. Already learned a lot of tricks from this one

Doing a break apart should fix border crossing itself issues.

thx for this very helpful! Is there a way when you're on a node to travel to the next node or the node before? sometimes nodes are all bunched up it's hard to tell the order. :) THX AGAIN♥☻☺

You can multi select nodes by drawing a box around them with the mouse. Left click and hold an area without a node and drag across several nodes making a box around them. When you let go of the mouse button the nodes inside that box will be selected.
The other way is to hover your mouse over a node and spin the mouse wheel. Spin away from you will select multiple nodes fanning out away from the node you are hovering over. Spinning toward you will deselect nodes in the opposite order.

      thx for this !! :) ☻☺
ah! I tried the rectangle select thing and it a hit and miss at times. Is there a shortcut key so that I can select it EVERYTIME?
i see but no way to go to the node before or after?thx again :)
Are there shortcut keys for inkscape/inkstitch? or to you make the shortcuts yourself?
      ☻☺

@@ArtWars314 If you do the rectangle trick and miss one or two, hover your mouse over one of the nodes and mouse wheel away from you.
If that doesn't work, after you have rectangle wrangled nodes and a few of them escaped, hold your left ctrl key down and select the nodes that missed out.
Another trick that works is if you have, say, 10 nodes to collect. Select either one of the nodes on either end, then hold the shift key down and select the last node on the other end. Those two nodes plus all nodes in between should be selected now.

update, just tried the shift click from one end to the other. Isn't working now. I wonder that maybe they removed that with 1.1. Anyway, the ctrl click trick still works, and the mouse wheel trick still works.

You can also set a keyboard shortcut in the preferences window. Under edit at the top of the screen. Very helpful if you use the trouble shooter a lot which you probably will

Sorry for the late reply. Have you been able to fix this? If you're on windows I'd say it probably your AV getting in the way.
