KaOS Linux review - love the installer, 64bit only system

KaOS Linux review, the installer is very nice with a great UX design. KaOS is a 64 bit only system which greatly limits wine and steam implementations, these should be installed using flatpak versions and they should work great that way.

Tumbleweed update GUI is getting better, still not there yet though
Cool thanks learning some things I did not know. Been using Plasma for a while on Artix (Arch).
16:35 ESR software is for like corp / business situations where you need the product to be super stable and not rolling out new / weird features all the time. Extended Support Release (ESR): receives major updates on average every 52 weeks with minor updates such as crash fixes, security fixes and policy updates as needed, but at least every four weeks.
excellent information. Thank you very much for sharing
I just installed openSUSE Tumbleweed with ventoy today on. A Lenovo 15alc7 ideapad . I did the offline install, the online wouldn't work.
That's awesome. I've been avoiding ventoy ever since it stopped working with OST. Glad to know it's working again.
Hi, how to install a virtual keyboard, write a command, thank you
sudo zypper in maliit-keyboard after it's installed go into plasma settings > input > virtual keyboard, set maliit as the virtual keyboard.
This was very helpful, thanks so much!
Usually it's better to wait, if you change it from packman to opensuse and then it fails (or you forget about is) to change back, you might lose some features that are allowed in packman (usually license related = codecs, etc..)
Good tip. Thank you
Hi LTL, nice video as always. Following your recent Tumbleweed system upgrade over 6 month old snapshot, openSUSE undoubtly makes no exception. This time could you test how Kubuntu upgrade makes out from one point release to another ie 22.04/24.04 to 24.10? The system should be installed bunch of tools you use ie inkscape, kdenlive, Virt-manager and etc you use everyday so the upgrade goes more challenging and Kubuntu proves us it can win this time. Eagerly waiting for this new suggestion
Love the idea, except those point releases are designed to do just that.... Now, to turn up the heat maybe I could update a no longer supported version to a supported version? I've actually done that in the past but it was long ago. I do wonder if it still works :)
Useful and Helpful info. Thank you.
Greetings, I installed. openSuse Tumbleweed x86_64, Kernel 6.11.8-1-default Shell: bash 5.2.37. The program works well. I installed and configured an Epson L355 multifunctional printer, but it was only possible locally, through the USB cable, but it does not locate it remotely. I followed your recommendation on changes to Yast Firewall, but the problem continues. What else could be the solution? Thank you.
is the printer a wifi printer and are you sure the printer is on the same network as the computer?
thank you my man
Wow!, It's a Solid Rock!
I always wondered who the wobbly windows enjoyers were.
👍 Guilty 👍 Lol
Suse dont use snap packages
That is correct, but you can add snap support if you choose to.
Question, I have a design that's an applique with a satin stitch and I enlarged it. It looks ok, but is it possible to make my satin stitch more dense somehow?
as long as you continue to work with the svg image and not the embroidery image editing is easy. just use params and make the 'stitches between rows' a bit less (smaller number). If you didn't save it as SVG first then it makes everything a bit more difficult.
question: I saved a svg outline design, used bitmap to get a path and it shows one line fill, but when changed to stroke or dashes, I get two stroke lines and if I do dashes from the stroke, I get two dash lines instead on one. How do I convert a svg to path to fill to single stroke and single dash lines? I'm trying to make appliques. Thanks, your the best.
for an applique you'll just use a border/stroke. Set the object to applique to no fill. duplicate twice. First two use running stitch (you no longer need to do the dash lines to get a running stitch). On the last (top) one add stroke of about 1.5 mm and do inkstitch/satin: tools/convert line to satin. If that doesn't help let me know. You can also send your svg to me at dale@lowtechlinux.com and I'll have a look.
Very informative, thank you!
You should explain that this is intended for VM environments. It is not intended to be installed on "bare metal" yet. Play with it in a VM - all you like. I have always liked / loved OPEN SUSE. but it is also the Linux - distro that I have managed to "break" most often.
Tumbleweed really is the best.
I very much agree
@@TheLinuxCast Fancy seeing you here. It is pretty cool.
Yeah, this made me happy :)
I didn't know the start stop command. Thanks for the video!
Fedora yesterday said that KDE is being promoted to = status as Gnome Workstation on Fedora so I hope that means more attention/support for KDE
I have recently seen more about this, that kde will be at the same status as gnome. That is awesome.
Just need to install it through steam ?
That's all I did, yes. I have steam set to install non Linux steam games to experimental proton.
I also call it Tumbleweed as a shorthand. I'm especially happy that I was able to migrate the drive from my old 1050 Ti machine to my 7900 GRE build and it just works, secure boot and all. Updating from a 6-month snapshot is an amazing feat! I still have a June ISO sitting on my USB drive full of Linux ISOs and miscellaneous things but if I feel like installing it on another machine, I might still prefer a newer snapshot just to save myself some time. The only thing stopping me from putting it on my 3050 Ti laptop is how far behind the natively packaged drivers are so I would prefer the manual installation of them which I used to do on the 1050 Ti until the OpenSUSE mirrors overrode it because I didn't think to disable them. I mainly use Wayland so I've gotta have that explicit sync which 550 doesn't have. We're up to 565 now and I've noticed the performance over on CachyOS take a nosedive with that driver so I might play with mainline Arch or even Tumbleweed on the other drive in that machine. I know 550 is technically the stable driver and the Arch ecosystem is bleeding edge so it uses the beta drivers but flickers and jitters are annoying so I'd rather have the newer drivers.
I have my next test for tumbleweed set and ready to do, in between honey do list lol. Upgrading a Tumbleweed from April 2023. I'm confident it'll work, but not quite as confident as I was with the 6 month old snapshot.
I still run arch linux because of how fast it is on my laptop but my desktop I have moved over to tumbleweed because I kept having issues after updating on arch (I don't use my desktop every day so it doesn't update very often). it is great honestly, I have nothing but praise for tumbleweed
@@calleha01 I just remembered Tumbleweed has the open modules with the 560 drivers which my laptop could use because it's got a newer GPU. Perhaps I could put the gecko on there after all. I'm hoping the slowness is just a CachyOS thing and not a 565 thing which is ironic because it's touted as fast but I found it to have too much customization for its own good so stock Arch or Tumbleweed might be the answer. There was also a vulnerability discovered in older Nvidia drivers recently that affects both Windows and Linux so I think 560 is recent enough.
@@pip5528 yeah good luck with that honestly; I gave up on nvidia and swapped in an amd card many years ago cause I couldn't rely on the latest kernel always working with nvidia no matter the distro
@@calleha01 Turns out CachyOS fixed itself and I can't really explain how. I had put Tumbleweed on the other drive but then borked it because I had conflicting nvidia-utils and nvidia-settings so it would get stuck on the splash screen. That's completely my own fault but I would love to do some testing with the drivers Tumbleweed has since the laptop is much newer. I used to manually install 555.58 and 560 on Tumbleweed.
Man you just took someone's 12 videos and made it into one good video thanks much appreciated
ive used the arrow, created a json.font but it still wont show up with the rest of my fonts in lettering
for the long awaited reply. If you're still having issues with it I'll be happy to look at it if you send the new font folder zipped up to me at dale@lowtechlinux.com.
Tuxedo OS 4 is now out and based on Noble Numbat, and it is as smooth as butter. The control centre is made specifically for their hardware.
Excellent. Thank you for letting me know. I kinda thought that was part of it
Is there a way to do the appliqué, then do the text to make the word Home to be in the middle of the appliqué? The design would have Home Sweet above the appliqué, Home in the middle of the appliqué To Me beneath the appliqué.(If not appropriate, please delete)
That would work fine. Do all the applique work first then finish it up with the text on top. Make sure it's a satin stitch font, fill stitch might get too dense.
Shouldn't it be a knock out stitch... you have s video on that.. I'm new but I've seen different videos@LowTechLinux
knock out, or knock down stitch is mostly for embroidering on very fuzzy/fluffy fabric. for example the fluffy top of christmas stocking.
Thank you!
if it used deb bookworm I would use it.
Thanks for this. Been using Slowroll since early this year and really liking openSUSE.
THANK YOU so much for your tutorials.
I have learned so much from your videos! I’ll be searching for the font!
I have been using Regata on & off for more than a year. As far as I know - it is all the work of one individual from Brazil. He has some idiosyncratic elements in his system but it is quite stable.
Thank you for the update.
This is an absolutely fantastic video, you are seriously a life saver, was so confused on how to control the fill param commands and this was so helpful thanks a ton.
Ultramarine Linux, also based on Fedora, has goals similar to Nobara. I kinda wonder why that guy doesn’t team up with them.
TY!!! Do you have an instruction video for installing Tumbleweed with your preference’s and tips?
Fail to run game with this on Steam, maybe you can make a tutorial for it?
What distro and what video card do you have? Is it showing any error messages?
@@LowTechLinux Arch Linux, I'm trying to install proton-tkg to try it again.
@@LowTechLinux The HDR in the game is just black out. proton-tkg + vk-hdr-layer-kwin6-git + registry editing doesn't work, it doesn't show HDR in the game.
Did you install the vulkan drivers for your video card and the 32 bit libraries for it? What video card are you using?
@@LowTechLinux Yep, vulkan-radeon and lib32-vulkan-radeon, AMD RX6750XT
100% agree. Loving tumbleweed but I had the same problems with firewall/printer
How can I avoid cutting off the nodes and keep the entire image intact? I'm working on embroidering a company logo and want to ensure the design finishes smoothly without that kind of cutoff at the end.
Not sure what you mean. You send your svg file and images to me at dale@lowtechlinux.com and I'll have a look
Hi. I’ve been trying to make a pair of eyes with embroidery that have an outline, white and eye colour around the pupils for a few weeks now. My pattern keeps leaving gaps between the colours and the outlines on the top and bottom which don’t come up in InkStitch. I think it might be because of pull effect but I’ve tried everything in the video and not much has changed. Have you got any advice?
Would you care to send the SVG to me at dale@lowtechlinux.com so I can have a look?
Just sent it. :)
I like Nobara a lot but keep falling back on Mint after each try. Games play fine in Mint but they seem cleaner and faster in Nobara. My laptop has an older Nvidia card so problems pop-up in Nobara (only in games). I have used these versions: 36 Games ran fine (small black streaks) 37 Games have big black areas (cannot play) 38 Like 36 with bigger and more streaks 39 Like 36 with smaller streaks Does 40 make any real changes? Regards
I made the same mistake you did, but when setting up your password you can simply uncheck "require strong password" to use your simple password.
Hmmm. How'd I miss that? Lol. Thank you
@@LowTechLinux I missed it at first as well, it was frustrating until I finally saw it staring right at me
new to digitizing. very useful tip. thanks!
it's my main Linux distro now after Elementary OS. I even run it on my server. since you CAN upgrade from Tuxedo OS 3 to Version 4 when it is released, unlike Elementary OS Kubuntu came close but the tuxedo control center with its power profiles really does work well on a laptop. you can eek out that little bit more battery life by downclocking the CPU and reducing the screen brightness when on battery power and yet have a power profile for when plugged in with everything clocked up to the max. brilliant idea and the best supported Linux distro for this.
The tuxedo tweaks have fitted very nicely with KDE. Best windows replacement for my requirements that I have experienced thus far in exploring Linux.
@@anthonyward3853 Isn't the tool meant for Tuxedo hardwares or system76?
@@plutorocks1 its also a free download for the OS as well so you can install Tuxedo OS on any PC. you just wont have as much info in the Tuxedo Control center

@@plutorocks1 it's better than kubuntu since it uses kde 6. When i tried kubuntu a couple weeks ago it was still on 5.
Great video, RegataOS kind of flew under the radar for me, thanks for showcasing it! The concept and feel remind me a bit of how I imagine TuxedoOS (which I haven't tried yet myself). Btw, do you have any thoughts on TuxedoOS by chance while we're at it? It's also a KDE-based distro.
That video is in the queue. Should be out this evening
You are watching a master at work! you know the answer before i have asked and i appreciate that one hundred folds

what params would you suggest to prevent curling on a t-shirt? apparently my stitches are too dense. they print just fine on felt as patches or if i stick them in a frame on a felt rectangle, but printing directly onto a t-shirt results in curling. if for example i just stitch a pure solid color circle with a satin stitched border, whatever params work for this, I can tinker from there and work it into my actual images.
What are you using for stabilizer? Needs to be a semi stiff cutaway type. Also don't pull the t shirt too tight in your hoop. When you take it out of the hoop and the stitch area relaxes it will curl, as the T-shirt material relaxes but the embroidery stitches don't.
If you had a choice between open Susie or Manjaro, which one would you pick?
I ran Manjaro for about 2 years until I broke it. Be careful with dd, lol I made the switch to tumbleweed and couldn't be happier for it. ruclips.net/video/9LUUqtnM2_o/видео.html
@@LowTechLinux okay I haven't tried opensuse so might try it even though I have no idea about their package manager
Zypper is good but it is definitely slower than pamac/pacman. I just have comfort in knowing tumbleweed updates won't break my system.
@yodasgodfather1957, I’d choose openSUSE over Manjaro. You can get a KDE, GNOME or XFCE live CD for either Leap or Tumbleweed and try before you install.
Man alive i love those games for reals!! You have another Sub bro such a great video and openSUSE is so underrated
Thank you. I agree openSUSE doesn't get as much love as it should
