    Thanks for the review. Here's my 2 cents. I'm also a Tumbleweed user, and I'm sticking to it like if I were holding a holy grail. However, Nobara looks good also, and since I'm a gamer, I might consider a switch, if it weren't a hobby distro. Imho in the #11 of his FAQ this phrase is veeeery a double edged sword, and this is why I'm not taking that as a serious distro: "As long as I am alive and using linux this project will continue" and he starts talking about his fater and such... this makes nobara and GloriousEggroll look so very unprofessional. I mean, I get it, its a hobby duct-taped distro that is held together by dream and love, but still, why making such a project, and ruin it with a FAQ like that?! Then don't distribute it IMHO - I wish Fedora would make an official spin like nobara's, so I'd defo take it from there, because at least I know they'll be there forever lol. Tumbleweed is still the #1

    Quick question, the font I chose to follow along did not have a stroke outline. Will this only work with specific fonts?

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux 2 дня назад

      If it's a system font go into fill and stroke and set fill, no stroke. Duplicate that layer and go into fill and stroke on that new layer. Set no fill, stroke, set stroke to about 1.5 mm. Inkstitch > tools: satin > convert line to satin

    Quick question.. When you were testing the BETA version of this latest inkstitch, you tried to open the lettering COLLEGE, (the one you shared with us), but you encountered a weird issue or warning that did not let you use that lettering. I use a lot the COLLEGE lettering because i like it a lot, so my question is: Does this COLLEGE lettering works fine with the released V3.1.0 version? I believe i will install the new version in the following days but I wouldn´t want to not being able to use it. Thanks again for your help.

    • @LowTechLinux

      do an uninstall with inkstitch, then reinstall it, then whitelist in norton before you run inkscape/inkstitch. I'm not familiar with norton, and honestly don't recommend it, but I found this. If not 100% accurate it should get you pretty close to where you need. support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v3672136

    Why not choose flatpak inkscape if I may? I know some of us are using Aeon and Atomic distros and flatpak is viable for the segment

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux 5 дней назад

      By default, a repo install of inkscape puts the extensions folder into (iirc) ~./config/inkscape/extensions That is where inkstitch looks for inkscape to satisfy the "is installed" query. Flatpaks put the extension into (again iirc) /var/lib/flatpak/Inkscape/extensions inkstitch can't find it and the query "is installed" returns false. if it knows the system you're on it will actually do a repo install if it can, if not it will fail to install. Snaps pu the extension into (again iirc) /var/lib/snapd/inkscape/extensions same "is installed" returns false as flatpak, same attempt to install from repo will proceed. appimg (again iirc) runs it's folders from the appimg location and those folders are temporary (This is from long ago, it may be different now). immutables take this problem to another level, Everything is sandboxed and has no user privileges. So if you try to install something to an extension folder in the system, only root has access. Only root has access to run them as well. There's definitely ways for a more experienced user to make them work, for the layman using linux I say "just don't use snaps or flatpaks, or appimg. Only install from repo"

    Thanks for this video. I already watched some of your videos as you take your time to explain why you do certain things. Most of the stuff you showed I had already seen in your previous vids but it's a nice summary/refreshment. Didn't know the flatten image... remember you used so subtract objects to cut them out or you could start from a png to trace them back... this is much better😅. Maybe one thing you could show to people beginning as I'm also still learning (2 months tinkering in spare time) is maybe showing how to group objects by fill or stroke color and put them in a good logical sequence to avoid having to switch colors more than needed on the machine. Thanks again! Looking forward on learning more

Im trying to create a file for the Slytherin logo, but the black part of the logo is quite complex and its really a mess of nodes and doesn't even appear in the simulation. • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux 11 дней назад

      I looked up the slitherin logo, very complex if you're doing it as direct as it can be. The fact that it doesn't show up in simulation tells me there's something wrong that inkstitch can't make use of it. Select the top most layer to get everything and run inkstitch > troubleshoot > troubleshoot objects and it might tell you what the problem is.

    The software firewall might not be needed at home but on public Wi-Fi or at work, having dangerous ports closed is a good idea. Still, I think allowing printers and smb at the least on "private" networks by default would be a reasonable compromise. Blocking everything by default is a good way to get someone frustrated enough to just shut it off entirely, which defeats the purpose! Hell, firewall and printer are part of YAST, why not have the YAST printer dialogue ask you if you want to open printer ports on this network when you hit the add printer button?

    Another migrant from Manjaro here, I've had much the same experience. Manjaro ran well and with AUR enabled I never had an issue getting the software I wanted. Still, the guys behind Manjaro are weird and I wanted to get away from arch stuff and I wanted the latest from KDE so I tried fedora and hated it, Tumbleweed has been great for me (minus the printer shenanigans). Every distro has its issues but Manjaro definitely handled the out of box experience better with the printers and codecs. The more limited default repository isn't an issue for me because I actually like flatpak and appimage, I think Linux on the desktop for normies could never happen without the success of them.

      imo opinion they are about the same. dnf5 (i think the most current) is a bit faster than zypper. but they are working to make zypper faster so it should improve there. syntax is very similar, dnf install *package zypper install *package dnf remove *package zypper remove *package you can also shortcut zypper commands like so: zypper in *package and zypper up is short for update and zypper dup is short for distribution upgrade (use this for tumbleweed updates)

    Have you done puff embroidery yet? Stitch out a border, apply puffy foam already in the shape of your letter or design, and the embroider a border or lay down a cloth layer over the puff with a border. I am explaining this poorly, but videos exist on the Tube.

    How do you add text? To a imported photo

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux 26 дней назад

      do you mean an imported embroidery file? Do it the same way as any other, inkstitch lettering, pick your font, add your text

      @@LowTechLinux yes i did that to an imported embroidery file, but it says there are properties that can’t be copied every time I try to it says it’s too big even after I sized it right.

    All I wanted to do was learn how to digitize a small circle inside a big circle. I've been down a rabbit hole trying to make a machine do 2 circles! Why is this so complicated??

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux 26 дней назад

      make a big circle, make a small circle on top, select both, path > flatten. Select both, params, expand about .3 mm. If this doesn't make sense for you i'll do a post or video explaining it a little better, just let me know

    Hi there, love the video, wanted to ask do you have to set the rand range for Y? I want to make objects fall randomly from the sky for a game I’m making and want them to all start at y=0

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux 28 дней назад

      No, you can set y to anything and have it spawn on a random x anywhere along that defined y. I recommend setting y above your skyline. If your top is y=0, set your y line to y=20 so it spawns above the visible field and then falls into view from the top

    Nice intro. I'd like to see a demo of remote and automated installation options. For instance - feeding a config file to a virtual proxmox/virtual install. Also a remote install where it calls home for remote install. What do you think?

    Gorgeous and well-thought-out. The only thing I do not like is, that you are not (optionally) accompanied through all the options chronologically. You have to go through them all by yourself and come back to the overview-dialog. Although the overview-dialog looks very cleaned-up.

    Thank you Sir. It's July 2024 and your video is still needed to solve my audio jack problem with Ubuntu 22.04 running AMD 5700u where audio worked via HDMI but not on the jack via pulse audio. Your video to switch to pipewire solved the issue. Thank you sincerely 🙏
