Uhhhh. As a cellist, I think I can say that this makes me speechless. Technically, mentally, musically...this is superb. What a massive amount of talent and passion. God love you for recording this.
I concur, Andrew! As an accomplished professional cellist myself, this is absolutely the most enjoyable performance of Bach's 6th that I've ever heard in my entire 30+ year career, including of those of my famous teachers. Mr. Dindo is amazing... and I've only just this week discovered him. We look to be around the same age... where has he been?? lol. I really need to find him and attend a live concert. That would be incredible.
Thank you Signore Dindo for bringing the stunning genius of Bach to our senses so marvelously..that universal language..one of the good things made by humans
☄ IN THE EMPTINESS OF MILE AFTER MILE OF AN UNENDING DESERT, . . . AND THEN, . . . THIS! IT FELT LIKE I FINALLY FOUND WATER OR AN OASIS. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VLOG THAT I HEARD WHILE BROWSING RUclips DAILY, IN A VERY LONG TIME. 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
I am unable to go without listening to this recording daily. These pieces will be played at my wedding, God willing this Summer in Italy. So grateful to YSB and Maestro Dindo, thank you ❤
Suite 6 is my absolute favorite suite, the Prelude of this suite is my favorite movement in the entire 6 suites. This performance of suite 6 is so fantastic, I love it. Why couldn't I have discovered this earlier :(
Allemande is incredible. in 89 a fellow was playing in class twice every month, I used to go back home nearly sick, in heaven, and last for some days. Teacher gaze him deep, didn't say nothing. I haven't heard nobody like him until now, ¡Enrico performs the version!
Of all the very numerous interpretations of the Suites available here on YT, Dindo's are the ones I keep coming back to when I'm looking for definitive ideas, over many of those of perhaps more famous 'rockstar' cellists (not that I don't love them too). There's never a single thing that bothers me about his choices, all is precisely as I might envision, and the exquisite SOUND is ever-present. Thanks for giving us all of these, Sr. Dindo! And for the excellent attention to the production as well.
Of course, I agree with all the comments saluting this exceptional performance. I want to also salute the sound/recording engineer! This is the best recorded sound of a cello I've ever heard!
The playing is masterful, and all the above comments are spot on. The recording is indeed excellent. Many recordings of string instruments are made with a microphone directly near the bow/string contact. Not only does this pick up too much of the bowing/contact noise, it does not allow the surrounding air to attenuate the bowing sound, it also prevents the the full sound from the body of these wonderful and often ancient instruments from being fully absorbed and enjoyed. Just watched this for a second time - his fingerwork is truly astonishing, his expression and dynamic are just perfect. What a joy! JJ
Assoluto SPETTACOLO! Incredibile sensibilità, intonazione straordinaria, comprensione della musica (e dello stile) top notch. Un'esecuzione pura, ma ricca di nuance.
Your playing is absolutely wonderful ! As a french eighteen year old cellist, I currently practice the prelude, and I have to say you're the one whose interpretation of this movement touches me the most, and it goes the same way for the six other ones. Thank you !
Thank you Yoann, receiving nice words from a person who surnames Fournier makes me very moved. The great Pierre was one of my most important sources of inspiration. The warmth of its sound remained inside my head and its intense vibrato in my skin. I hope so much for you too. Hugs. Ciao
BRAVO SIR. BRAVISSIMO. I practice these suites every day. Its very hard to get the phrasing just right. Thank you for the great inspiration, and new aspiration. My deepest thanks for sharing.
Playing the Prelude from suite no. 6 has been such a milestone for me as a cellist and I cannot stop drawing inspiration from your interpretation. You understand that it’s a beautiful story being told through the harmonic progressions and Bach is also a genius who knew how colorful the cello is and I’m confident that’s why Bach added a 5th string. He wanted to add more colors! And you sir, choose all the right colors at the right time!
For my ears and soul the most beautiful recording of this suite I have ever heard. I touch Heaven when I listen to your Allemande. It makes me rehearsing like never before... :-)
I’ve been listening to a lot of performances of this great suite and this stands out as the best; there are so many good and even great cellists ( a friend asked me “ is any cellist as good as Casals?” and I said he’ll always be Casals but yes! dozens- the standard of playing has become so high! Even among so many Dindo stands apart.
Your approach and general sound concept is very beautiful! I love, that your sound is so free and soothing. No pressure at all in your bow. Very special rendition.. I admire your interpretation of the Bach Suites. In my opinion they belong to the best ones out there! I also really love your P.G. Rogeri cello.. it is so beautiful in its appearance and even more in sound and color.
What's even more impressive is reading a Comic while playing...I think, thats what I saw on his music stand. Just kidding; despite the fact he doesn't play from memory it's an outstanding performance.
I think it's usual to play them from memory for public performance. By the time you've learned to play them well enough for that you'll have played every note of them a thousand times. (Also most printed editions of the music have awkward page turns...)
I was just reading an article on how the 6th Suite is written in fact for a 5-string instrument and why cellists should not insist on playing it on a 4-string one with difficulty. But listening to Maestro Dindo, I can't see or hear any difficulty. I just hear a wonderful sound. Thank you for this upload.
And why on Earth should we cellists refrain from playing the 6th Suite on a cello with the usual four strings? Does that mean that we're all meant to buy and maintain an extra cello (maybe our third or fourth) just for this Suite? After all, it is perfectly possible to play this Suite on a normal cello. And Dindo's video proves that this is so.
This was filmed so smoothly and well that the viewer is as “one with the artist” as possible. The heart and hands of the musician flow into me through the sensitivity of the filmmaker’s finesse. Bravo to the cellist and the artist who shares this with us!
Dear Enrico, I love your playing! I think you are really nice person too.. it reflects in your playing how kind of person you are... I wish I can play like you.. I can imagine how many hours and days and months and years you put into playing the cello. Really commend you for your dedication to making your music such artistry and congratulations to all your wonderful videos that puts smile on everyone's face who listens to you!
This is sublime. Didn't listen to suite 6 until now because it was beyond my technical capabilities; now I think I must get practicing! Enrico is my favourite Bach interpreter by far; effortless musicality!
The cello has a very interesting story.. Piatti used to play on this exact cello and even Paganini owned it at some point. But because of his gambling addiction he owed people a lot of money. He chose to give away this cello and scratched his initials NP on the back of the neck. It is still visible today!
WOW! How beautiful!! Enrico, thank you very much for this great recording. I have played it now 4 times behind each other and can’t get enough! Hope you come playing in Amsterdam soon, so I can watch you live.
This version of suite 6 is better than Yo-Yo Ma's version. BTW, I am a YYM fan and I listen to his version of the 2006 BBC Proms everyday, but I still think this one is better than his version.
I told my self I was going to go to bed early.... I’m resting my soul listening to this late at night.
