Andre The Giant said this was one of his most proud achievements. He absolutely loved how the movie came out
Like many exceedingly large people, he was reputedly one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. I suppose when you know your life is going to be shorter than average (the tumor responsible for his gigantism was inoperable, and caused all sort of health issues before he died), you do what you can to live your best life
If I remember correctly, Andre would show almost all of his friends the film when they would stay at hotels or where they had a VHS player. And it's true, he was very proud to have been part of something so culturally significant.
@@gestaltdude It was not inoperable. Andre's condition could have totally been fixed. He CHOSE to not go through it, because he felt his wrestling persona could have been jeopardized if he were to ever start losing size rather than continuing to gain it. Even after he was warned that it would potentially limit his lifespan.
@@k1productions87 and we know it was fixable within Andre's lifetime because Paul Wight has the exact same type of gigantism, and he DID have the procedure.
@@christopherwall2121 Yes exactly. And still alive and healthy, already 5 years older than Andre was when he passed, and not having to hobble around on arm crutches (which was a heart-wrenching sight to see with what had been up until then one of the most impressive Human Beings ever to walk the planet)
I'm sure SO MANY people have told you about the man who plays Inigo talking about how he visualized the cancer that killed his own father to channel the proper emotion when he faced the count. My favorite thing I heard in an interview was"...in that moment my father was alive again, and my fairy tale came true"
That scene will always give me chills after that
Fun Fact: Andre The Giant was said to be such a kind and gentle person on set that when Robin Wright was freezing cold after swimming in the movie that Andre warmed her by taking his hand and completely covering the top of her head. She said it was super warm.
He also comforted Wallace Shawn (Vizzini) when they were going up the rope on the Cliffs of Insanity, because he was terrified of heights.
@@vodengc520 inconceivable
True, did you know his back was so bad that they had wires on the girl when Andre caught her? He was too weak to catch her on her own.
Not so fun fact, many wrestlers who worked with him said he was a terrible person & a casual racist who openly slurred black wrestlers.
Andre was a French born, professional wrestler who was 7ft. tall and around 400lbs. By the age of 12 he was already 6'3" tall. As a wrestler, he was surprisingly agile for his size and nearly unstoppable, as long as he was on his feet. Outside of the ring, he was known as a gentle giant, a fan favorite, and loved by children everywhere. Sadly, as happens with most people born with 'giantism', he died of heart failure in his mid 40's leaving behind a legend that will be hard to follow.
He was also immensely generous. If you were ever luck enough to go to dinner with him, he was _always_ buying. He would actually get offended if you tried to pay, as Arnold Schwarzenegger has said a few times.
RIP. I didn't know he was French. 😉
@@Uldihaa which was a good thing, because his enlarged body meant he could put away a lot of food, and ESPECIALLY drink. Andre is infamous for how much alcohol he could consume. I'm pretty sure every wrestler who ever knew him has at least one story about drinking with Andre.
Ironically, one of the only ways he COULD be defeated was with a sleeper hold... the exact way he was taken down here.
Inconceivable! The main duel was one of the best choreographed sword fights ever filmed.
Considerate, respectful swashbuckling at its finest.
The Swordmaster, Bob Anderson, who had also choreographed for The Highlander, Star Wars and LoTR, said this was some of the finest swordplay he's ever done. He attributed this to the fact that neither Mandy Patinkin nor Cary Elwes knew anything about stage fighting, which made the teaching so much easier not having to "unteach" or go against any previous training or bad habits.
Have you seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?
@@beatmet2355 The duel between the two heroines? Yes ;-)
I still love that Cary Elwes went on to play Robin Hood and they were just like, "oh, you know how to use a sword already."
The first time I watched this when I was a kid, I didn’t like it. But, the older I got the more this became one of my favorite fantasy movies. RIP Andre The Giant
Andre was so great. His genuine good nature shines so brightly in this film. This is a must see for anyone.
Funny Story. Andre the Giant let out a 15 second fart on set. When asked if he was OK, he said " I am now".
Considering that it was a children's movie it has the coldest "kill" line I know of Inigo Montoya's "I want my father back you son of a bitch" is worthy of a John Wick style revenge kill.
"My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."
"Stop saying that!" Lol!!
"My name is Inigo Montoya, You Killed My Father, Prepare To Die!" "Offer me money."
“Sleep well and dream of large women”.
RIP, Andre The Giant, 1946-1993.
Same guy who tumbled down the hill as Wesley, then wore red dress and wig and did it again. That's commitment :)
So that's why they both tumbled with the same style. It makes sense now. 🤔
“Have fun storming the castle!”👋🏼
You think it will work?
@@Caffin8tor it would take a miracle.
🌹🌹 Amazing Reactions, Ladies 🌹🌹
Mandy Patinkin played the role of Indigo Montoya! This famous actor's father died on cancer. Scene 31:28 when Indigo Montoya killed the six-fingered nobleman, whom he had been looking for all his life, Mandy said without an accent in his voice: I want my Father back, you son of ...!
In real Mandy told the cancer to bring his father back to life! You can see the real anger in his face! Fantastic scene!
Yes definitely watch his video response to a fan "Love To Alaska" on his RUclips channel "Mandy Patinkin"
Patinkin's father died when he was 18, and it was about 15 years before this movie was released. But he did have him in mind during the shot you described. It's my favorite line in the movie.
Carry Elwes was actually knocked out with an actual metal handle, with his approval since there were no rubber sword handles available. He woke up in the hospital wondering what happened.
This movie has always been a childhood favourite of mine which I will never tire of watching. I was hoping this would be a movie you would re-watch and introduce to Laura. I was very happy you did. I loved your original reaction and I love this reaction every bit as much.
I’ve loved this movie since the first time I saw it as a child, however it means so much more to me now as an adult. During the movie when we cutback to the Grandfather reading the story it reminds me of how my Grandfather used to read to me as a young boy. Sadly he is no longer with us, but whenever I watch this movie and see those scenes it always brings back so many happy memories of my childhood but also makes me sad that I no longer have him in my life and only in my memories.
Thank You both so very much for this fantastic reaction Laura & Magy.
The kid in the movie is played by Fred Savage. He starred in the tv series The Wonder Years about turbulent life in 1960's in the US. Thirty minute per episodes with commercials. It's a comedic twist about serious issues. The grandfather is played by Peter Falk who starred in a tv detective series Columbo. He played a police detective who solved crimes in an amusing manner. It's sort of like Monk the tv series which had an amnesiac and personality disorder due to the death of his wife while he was a police officer but could spot small details in his private investigation firm.
Believe it or not, this movie did not do well when it was first released. But it did get a lot of attention when it went to video
Yep, people started renting it, showing it to their families, having watch parties - lol. That's how I found it. My very macho brother calls me up and tells me I've GOT to watch this movie. He was a huge fan of Andre the Giant and even named his oldest kid Andre.
6:29: Speaking of which, you two should watch *The Mask Of Zorro* (1998). It has action, adventure, romance, and humor!
The character was an influence in the creation of Batman!
Everyone during the night shots were freezing except for Robin Wright and that is because Andre would just put his hand on her head to keep her warm
The beautiful duels in this film are love letters to old swashbuckling films starring people like Errol Flynn. Anyone who enjoyed that aspect of this movie would probably really enjoy some of that older stuff. It's the original Marvel films lol
The best family movie, I watched with my mom & dad, then with my children, now my daughter will watch with her twins. A movie everybody can enjoy together. Great reaction ladies and Laura at times you sound just like her sister.
Sharing the magic with generations is truly the heart of it.
This movie is for everyone boys and girls it is such a great movie. This movie is based on a book. The writer of the book also wrote the script of the movie . The scene with Westley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. there was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also see Wilow (I know you saw it. You can show Laura), Lady Hawk, The Never Ending Story and The Labyrinth 1986. This is one of the movies with an epic soundtrack like Conan The Barbarian or Highlander which you should also see. one of my favorite quotes from this movie "“We are men of action, lies do not become us.”"
Also if you like fairy tales you should watch the 80's tv series Jim Henson's The Storyteller which is amazing telling fairy tales with muppets.
Another fun bit of trivia is that Christopher Guest (Count Rugen/the six-fingered man) is an English Lord IRL.
Count Rugen’s fingers go to 11.
Andre the Giant had such bad joints that they had to put Robin Wright on wires to drop her into his arms, because he couldn't catch her.
Anyone besides me remembers this movie as "that fairytale movie starring the guy from Robin Hood: Men in Tights"? Yeah I'm one of the people who saw Robin Hood: Men in Tights first before seeing this movie. Actually it was a female classmate who remarked about Princess Bride and how it stars the actor from Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Also Magy should react to Robin Hood: Men in Tights while this movie is still fresh in her mind.
One of the greatest movies ever. ✌️
It's a shame that you were not alive yet to see Andre the Giant when he was a wrestler. He was world famous.
9:54 I often quote this line myself. You see, I'm 6'5/197 cm, and I don't exercise, so it's quite fun to say!
I have to say, thanks to Bugs Bunny and other cartoons viewed when I was younger, I always thought quicksand, or lightning sand in this case, was going to be a much bigger issue in my day to day life than the fact has proven. :D
My younger sis, Beth, was legit OBSESSED with this film lmao
Time to see what all the fuss is about, Magy 🤷🏼♂️ 😂
She's seen it before.
@@30noir I was referring to myself 🤣
The great Andre the Giant may he continue to rest in peace 🙏🙏
i first saw this in 1990 at uni, me and 3 others moved into a student house, this video was in the lounge so we put it on. by the end there were four goths crying their eyes out lol
Love the addition of Laura and makes sense to show her your favourites. I still like the first time watches most though.
In my top 5 favorite movies of all time
28:18 His _speech impediment_ is ridiculous and comedic. Your _accent_ is beautiful. 🥰
All I can think of with this film is how my dad used to constantly quote the Inigo Montoya line LOL!
This is the most quotable movie ever made, IMHO. Practically every line in the whole film is a meme!
Poor kids. An entire generation doesn't know the joy of Billie Crystal.
The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump. It's impossible not to fall in love with Robin Wright.
And with Mark Knopfler's incredible score.
One of my favorite movies of all time, TY!
Robin Wright who plays Buttercup also was Jenny in Forrest Gump and General Antiope in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. Great reaction you two.
This movie has been one of my favorites ever sense it came out. The first time I watched it I was at my Grandparents house, and I remember EVER LITTLE PART of this movie, from that day. And LOVWE IT I will do for the rest of time. Great Post, Ladies.
Andre the Giant. How did you guys know about him?
Others: from The Princess Bride.
Me: from his wrestling days.
I am actually surprised that people don't know he was a wrestler, since that's how he got the name "Andre the Giant" in the first place.
It's incredibly funny to see girls/young women, respond to this movie today. From an old guy's view, it's astoundingly instructional.
2 wonderful girls + 1 wonderful film = a fun time 😊
So much smiling in this video.
Fun one, Ladies! Such a sweet story. 😊 Thank you for sharing it with us!
One of the few “perfect” movies
this movie was a classic pretty much from release. not met a person that didnt think it was great. had fun watching you two young people watching it. i showed it to my brothers kids when they were young and to theirs not so long ago. it never gets olds. thx for the video
Notice how Westley never blinks during the whole movie. Actually, I remember him blinking once, but I think that was an accident.
Funny fact: When the Count knocks out Wesley, he actually knocked the actor playing him out by accident. So when he dropped, it was real.
Loved your reaction. This movie holds a special place for me because it was the first one that I saw with my girlfriend and her son (now my beautiful wife and son) when it came out in the 80's
1:31 that's Columbo
Inconceivable! Lolll gets me every time
This is one of those movies that revealed to me a whole load of catch phrases, quotes, and memes.
More than a few times, I'd exclaim "Ohhh! So THAT'S where that's from!!"
Hi. Hope you two are having an amazing day.
15:19 I love it
You two are so sweet
Vizzini is such a mood 😅 Inconceivable!
Enjoyed watching your reaction, the woman on the left is absolutely gorgeous. Please keep reacting...
Remember how Superman disguised himself? All he had to do was put on a suit and a pair of glasses and suddenly he was Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter. The kind of mask Westley wore was a good deal more of a disguise than that, and almost any disquise will work when you're known to be dead, even for your nearest and dearest. Besides, the plot requires that the disquise work, so the disguise works.
That was a pretty slow response to "WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT!" If I were the Sicilian, I'd have tossed the contents of my glass instead of swapping them. That way I'd at least know I wasn't going to die and I could then detect any subterfuge.
I mean, if he was SO smart...
15:18 "Boo!"
😆😆😆
Anybody want a peanut? 😄
GYAAAAAAH!
15:19 Got her! lol You two are hilarious.
24:30 "You found it! Unbelievable."
Don't you mean... Inconceivable? 😏
Robin Wright the actress that plays "Princess Buttercup" was also "Jenny" in "Forest Gump" and Dianna's aunt in the first "Wonder Woman" movie.
When this movie first came out, nine coworkers and I went to see it. Nine people thought it was the the most stupid movie they had ever seen. I was blown away by it and thought it was brilliant. There is no accounting for taste.
It remains one of my top ten favorite movies still.
15:20 🤣👍🏼
15:19 “BOO 😮‼️”
You got a nice friend there, Magy. Can’t seem to find her RUclips channel if there is one…..
I just want to point out that the capybara is technically a Rodent of Unusual Size. They're the largest rodent in the world and are bigger than some dog species.
A perfect movie.
Thank you!! One of my all-time favorite movies! Andre the Giant was a legend, the true definition of a gentle giant.
This movie was done after Andre had his back surgery which left him incredibly weak. They had to lower Robin Wright into Andre's arms for the final shot because he literally could not have caught her by himself.
20:15 had me howling😂😂 “better take the suicide” what a wild statement.
A pair of great reactions by a pair of great ladies! If you want to see another swash-buckling adventure movie with some great sword-fights and excellent drama and some *really* good humor, check out _"Highlander"_ (1986).
It'll make laugh and cry and cheer!
*Enjoy!*
10:21: Yup! 😷
Peter Falk is amazing
Can I just say that I love that y'all 2 are British I think I have a friend that's British I'm not sure
Please, one of you. Say “Moose and squirrel.”
Also, guard your carnal treasures!
You are finally watching this. Brilliant movie.
Laura seem more relaxed in this reaction.
I forgot about that look for loose change joke. I got some in my pocket I better hide in case someone thinks I'm dead.
NO! Boy don't like kissing! Understand that! 😂🤣
Watching you enjoy this for the second time is wonderful. I love this movie
4:25 -- That's what I call a meme in the making! :D
Best part of this reaction is magy's BOO 🤣🤣🤣
Palm Springs (2020)
Hey magy you guys were awesome and I definitely enjoyed and appreciated the reaction to the movie, I seen the film when I was kid when I watched it with my sisters and liked it so it was nostalgia!❤️👍
I remember watching this was a kid. It's fun and wonderful. Looking good ladies. 👌
The best part of this reaction @4:25. The line starts over here...
Yo Magy
Be sure you and Laura do 3 reactions to the 90's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" trilogy on HBOMAX😁🌈✨
Leo is the turtle in the blue mask and he's the leader
Mikey is the one in the orange and he's sensitive, and a party geek dude
Donny is the one in the purple and he's a science kid
Ralph is the one in the red and he's rough
Their master is a rat and their father
When you and Laura react to the Ninja Turtles be sure you guys got 5 boxes of pizzas and sodas😁😉
The turtles are teenagers and they're fearless crime-fighting party dudes🌠🌈✨⚡🌟
Magy you have become much kinder these past year. When you first watched this movie and Westley was battling the R.O.U.S you kept calling for Westley to repeatedly stab the poor rat and you were quite critical of Buttercup doing very little.😉😁💚
I got my giant in Iceland. He's very fast. Anybody want a peanut?
15:13 I loved your reaction! 😀
24:33 did you mean, "Inconceivable?"
25:13 a pile of ashes would be worst than that.
Magy❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When you first watch this, you start by making fun of it, even though it is gently mocking fairy tale conventions already but by the end you are emotionally caught up in this world and loving the characters.
The director of this movie also did : MISERY - When Harry Met Sally - The Princess Bride - This Is Spinal Tap. And other movies.
He was also "Meathead" in "All in the Family" sitcom in the 70s.
@@golfr-kg9ss I meant as a director of movies
And _North_ , but we do not speak of that one.
Mags, did you recognize Buttercup from Forrest Gump and Wonder Woman, or Westley from Liar Liar? 🤔
Wesley was mad at her (at first) because she got married while he was gone, but that's because he didn't know about the circumstances of that marriage.
You too should watch and react to the 5th Element.
