It has been said that The Princess Bride is the perfect movie. It is a comedy, and action film, a romance, and a children's story all in one.
It was a massive pleasure for Hannah to film this Reaction to The Princess Bride with Tori. It was Tori's first time watching the movie.

What other movie do you consider to be perfect?
If I remember from the book, Buttercup didn't marry Humperdink by CHOICE.
Humperdink was looking for a bride and Buttercup's parents offered her to him
Casablanca (1942), Rear Window (1954), To Catch A Thief (1955), Bullitt (1968) The Shootist (1976)
A Man Called Otto (2023)
Major League, The Replacements, The New Guy, True Lies.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I got eo many Easter eggs on this movie. Not only did I do editing on this. But I know some stories on Andre (rest in peace) that guy could drink a lot of beer. I can drink a lot of whiskey. Funny editing on your video. Btw. The replay bits. Nice
At no point did I ever think the Grandfather was Wesley (there's a slight several hundred year gap between Wesley's time and an Atari). I think the Grandfather was just saying I love you to his grandkid :)
I had never thought or seen someone think that they were the same person and then today this is the second d video I’ve seen that’s thought or said that there the same person. Lol.
Well sure, but that's no Atari. That's a Commodore 64. Even the Atari 7800 didn't offer graphics like that, the best graphics I remember in an Atari Baseball game was "Realsports Baseball" and it looked nothing like that.
It never occurred to me. It’s an interesting theory. I don’t think it changes anything on the whole.
People think this?
@@baron7755 Bright people do not.
A few years ago there was talk of doing a "Princess Bride Reboot". Cary Elwes was asked his opinion about remaking the movie. His response could not have been better. He saud
"There is a shortgae of perfect movies in this world, it would be a pity to ruin this one"
The talks of a reboot stopped immediately.
Check out the one made during the pandemic from home movie footage by a variety of stars. It’s Cary Elwes approved and I’ll leave it at that. :-) That and reactions like this always send me back to watch the whole thing. Such a wonderful film!
What a perfect response!
That may be the best response I've heard to any question in my entire life. Improving upon it would be inconceivable.
yup..."stop re-booting "everything"!...."... ):
@@ElisabethKisselstein So true, that was amazing, and I have to say, hands down the BEST performance in that has to be Jason Segel, i swear if I didn't know it wasn't, I would swear that they just dubbed over his part with the original actor's audio. His impression is mind blowing. I won't say who he plays in the to avoid spoilers, but if you've seen it, you know who he was and how mind-blowingly perfect his impression was.
Tori has not seen this movie before?! Inconceivable!
You use that phrase I do not think you mean what you mean
“Tori has not seen this movie before?!”
Now I bet she will watch it many times more.
I was gonna say the exact same thing
Lmfao 😂😂😂😂 best comment ever
I brought a copy of the movie in case we every find Tori, the lady. HELLO LADY!!!!!
Great facial expressions Tori! So the grandfather is not supposed to be Westley, although you can certainly interpret the movie in that way if you want. "As you wish" means "I love you" in this movie. He's telling his grandson that he loves him, which is still the sweetest, most wholesome way to end a movie that I've ever seen.
My favorite line of the whole movie... when Grandpa says it.
While obviously the grandfather is not Westley, my take on this is that this family IS the descendants of Westley and Buttercup. Consider that all kids eventually wonder about their parent's histories. The story starts out as just another 'how I met your mother/father' that because of how purely epic the tale is gets told again and again. Eventually it's written down to preserve for posterity and then a few generations later gets published. The copy of the book the grandfather reads looks like it could be a first edition, perhaps even THE first copy. And thus is the story preserved.
@@Frank-vn9rg Don't forget it's many sequels, each one better than the last....
Andre the Giant loved working on this movie. Everyone was extremely kind and loved being around him. He was so gentle but also had severe back pain that he couldn't hold Buttercup in his arms without help. A great human being.
I love the fact that Ynigo spent 20 years in search of revenge and once he killed Count Rugen, he figured he was done with it. But with Wesley turning over the mantle of the Dread Pirate Roberts, whose ship is named Revenge, he's right back in the Revenge business. 😁
You're right! 🤯
I’m
Holy shit I've seen this movie literally hundreds of times and I never picked up on this. Bravo
I love how the near universal reaction to the Prince is 'hey, he looks like Lord Farquaad...' They did a really good job referencing this guy in Shrek, if so many people can make the retroactive connection.
In that final sword fight with the 6 fingered man, Mandy Patinkin was channeling his grief over losing his own father to cancer when he was only 18. So that line, "I want my father back you son of a bitch!" was heartfelt. Years later, 2021, Mandy confirmed this rumor when a fan reached out with a video after losing her own father to cancer and how that line resonated with her now after her loss.
Patinkin responded to the video, confirming that it was true.
"First of all, your dad is taking care of you. Secondly, it is true. 100% true,". "From the minute I read the script, I said I'm gonna do this part because in my mind, if I get the six-fingered guy (his father's murderer) that means I kill the cancer that killed my dad."
I remember in an interview with Christopher Guest (Count Rugen), he was saying that he was genuinely scared of Mandy in that scene from the shear hatred being directed at him.
My favorite tidbit I've read is that the movie had been shot except for the Grandpa/Grandson scenes. Andre went to the set just so Fred could meet him and answered all his wrestling questions. Andre sent him a Christmas card every year until he passed and he looked forward to it the most.
Wow!
That "As you wish" is just Grandpa telling his grandson he loves him. Knowing the way my mom loves our kids made me realize the deep love grandparents can have for their grandchildren and made me feel emotional (my dad unfortunately passed away years ago). It's a great ending.
they miss some really obvious things
@@dturasky19 i've seen some others miss that. i don't get why.
When my kids leave the house, I often say "Have fun storming the castle!"
Max, editor, here. At my day job I have someone who says that whenever anyone leaves the office.
Inigo and Fessicks friendship is one of the best in cinema
When Vincinni mocks and makes Fessick feel bad
Inigo begins the rhyming game to cheer Fessick up and annoy Vincinni
When Fessick sees Ingio in trouble with the Brute squad he immediately helps his friend and sobers him up
They are adorable.
"As you wish" is totally my favorite line. It's how I answer my wife when she asks me to do something.
Love it !!!
It most certainly became one of mine as well 😊
It may be a bit like gallows humor, but as a disabled Vietnam veteran, my favorite line is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia."
It's 2023 and you're just now watching this movie for the first time..... inconceivable!
Inconceivable!
Inconceivable!
The big quotes in my family are "Is this a kissing book?" (for every kissing or love scenen in every other movie), and "Have fun storming the castle!" (almost every time someone leaves the house).
I love that Tori recognized Andre The Giant immediately. Most people don't. He expressions during the movie remind me of people who saw this in the theater. (Me included)
My favorite phrase from this movie is one a lot of people love: " My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die." Miracle Max and his wife are played by Billy Crystal and Carol Kane, two very funny actors in the 80's. Have fun storming the castle. 😊
Have fun storming the castle!
I love that Tori recognized Andre the Giant. Tori is one of my favorite reactors.
thank you so much for such a flattering comment ❤🎬😊
I grew up watching wrestling due to having a brother so he's definitely a face ive seen before haha 😅
@@Tori14537 you're welcome 😊. I look forward to your continuation of the Rocky saga ❤️
"Get used to disappointment."
"Okay."
Is among my favorites. I mention it because it tickles me and seems to be over looked as far as brilliant lines.
I picked up on that line when I first saw it in 1990 or so.
He's just resigns to the disappointment so easily. 😆
The girl that played Buttercup says Andre the Giant was really sweet, but in a funny way sometimes. She says one time, the crew went horseback riding when they had some time off from shooting and got caught in freezing rain on their way back. She says that Andre saw her shivering and placed his hand on her head like a hat. She says that aside from it warming her up and keeping the rain off her surprisingly well, the gesture made her feel safe.
Favorite line? That’s tough, there are so many. I’m gonna go with grandpa saying “Yes, you’re very smart. Now shaddup.”
Mine definitely is "as you wish" ❤
The grandfather isn't Wesley. It was just a nice way to bring back the phrase from the story at the end of the movie. I've read the director brought back the grandfather after the movie finished filming to re-read the line because he wasn't happy with his original delivery.
In my mind.... The Grandfather was the most recent Dread Pirate Robert's. (^_^)
@@ShujinTribble mind blown!
"Leave us a comment with your favorite line..."
"Aaaaasssss yoooouuuuuu wiiiiissshhhh!"
Favorite line is, "Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has." Gotta love the attitude.
Best line ever is “Hello, my name is Indigo Montoya, you killed my father, repare to die.
Favorite line, “You’ve been mostly dead all day.”
I think he said I love you. I love him. What a fantastic grandfather!
...and yes, I know it's a movie.
One little detail I love about the Inigo fight with Count Rugen that a lot of people miss is that in addition to the cheek cuts that he makes, there's more. All of the wounds he gives him mirror the ones Rugen gives to Inigo during the fight. There's the stabs in the shoulder and armpit area and the coup de grace is where Rugen threw the dagger into Inigo's gut.
Anytime someone mentions the possibility of a remake of this:
There's a shortage of perfect films in this world.
That was an adorable, fun reaction! I don't think he's Wesley - it's a fairy tale after all - I think he's just using the book's line to tell his grandson he loves him. A super sweet, touching ending. Anyways, I love your channel, I love your reactions and I also realize how much I love Philly watching your channel! Or at least people from it! :D Thanks! That was a blast!
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! ♥️
Every line is gold, but my favorite is from the Dread Pirate Wesley, “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”
There are those who say that Monty Python is The Most Quotable something or other...
This movie is, unquestionably, One Long Quotable Quote. And I adore it.
You mock my pain
Suck it up, Buttercup.
I have two favorite lines (one from the movie and one that was only in the book).
Movie:
Westley: "In a few minutes we'll be safe in the Fire Swamp."
Buttercup: "We'll never survive."
Westley: "Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has."
Westley delivered that last line without a hint of exaggeration or irony. He really meant that nobody else would survive, but he was 100% positive that they would.
Book quote:
"Life isn't fair, it's just fairer than death, that's all."
Hannah's grinning face is all of us showing this gem to a friend 😁 It truly is a classic.
♥️
The grandfather was played by Peter Falk, who played "Columbo". If you're going to react to a film or tv program, I suggest that one. He was one of the finest actors in show business. May he rest in peace.
Absolutely one of the best, and naturally funny as well. He had a wonderfully wide range in his acting style, which you might not expect. He also had been blinded in one eye due to a childhood illness and had a glass eye, about which he was very good-natured.
Peter Falk is also known for the comedy movies "The Cheap Detective" and "The In-Laws."
@@bobbuethe1477 "The Cheap Detective" is a fantastic take-off of a bunch of Bogart movies, and Falk does a great Bogart. But before that movie, you need to watch "Murder By Death", where Falk's detective character first appears.
@melenatorr I've never seen Murder by Death, but l hear it's funny. Falk plays a Bogart-style character in both, but his character in Murder by Death is Sam Diamond, and in The Cheap Detective he's Lou Peckinpaugh.
"Oh, just one more thing..."
Favorite Line: "We'll never survive! Nonsense, you're only saying that because no one ever has."
Line I quote the most: "Have fun storming the castle!"
Have fun storming the castle!
The Dark Crystal.. Yes!!! And also no. Its so cool that you knew one of my favorite childhood movies. But her voice, Augra... was actually Frank Oz.. And I always wanted a Fizzgig.
Fun fact: Vizzini is played by Wallace Shawn, who would later voice act for several Pixar movies. His roles include Rex in the Toy Story franchise and the Gilbert Huph (Bob Parr’s boss) in The Incredibles.
Fun fact #2: the miracle worker is played by Billy Crystal, who would later play Mike Wyzowski in Monsters Inc
Fun Fact #3: Fezzik is played by legendary pro wrestler, Andre the Giant; who's had many matches against Hulk Hogan
Seeing Wallace Shawn in this made me watch "My Dinner With Andre". Loved it.
On TV, Shawn is also known for playing the Grand Nagus of the Ferengi on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and Dr. Sturgis on "Young Sheldon."
Fun Fact #4: Prince Humperdink was played by Chris Sarandon, who played Jack Skellington in "A Nightmare Before Christmas".
Fun Fact #5: The total weight of every single ant on Earth exceeds the total weight of every human on the planet.
This movie is perfection. The score, editing, costumes, sets, and cast are brilliant. The book is unique and differs from the movie. Once you read the book after watching the movie, you truly will appreciate this film. Grandpa was just telling his grandkid, "I love you," when he said, "As you wish." The story is set in a fantasy world, and Grandpa is modern day. This film is so good you want Grandpa to be Wesley.
I definitely thought the Grandpa was Westley when I was a really little kid, but when I got older I realized "Wait a sec, that makes no sense. The story took place in medieval times and the Grandpa is alive in the 1980s."
It's a fun thought though, and very sweet that the Grandpa also used it to mean I love you.
Inigo Montoya: "Is very strange. I have been in the revenge business so long, now that it's over, I don't know what to do with the rest of my life."
Westley: "Have you ever considered piracy? You'd make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts."
This is my favorite quote.
Reactions to The Princess Bride are my favorite videos to watch! It's the reason I got hooked on reaction videos.
Tori's reaction to finding out about Westley was gold. But then it was topped by seeing Count Rugen's right hand!
My favorite line has always been, "The pit of despair. Don't even think (cough clears throat) (deeper voice) Don't even think about trying to escape."
My own theory is that Grandpa (Rest In Peace, Peter Falk) is a descendant of Westley and Buttercup.
As you wish.
Thanks for watching with us, as always!
Peter Falk - the grandfather and narrator - was in the legendary detective show Columbo. It's worth catching some episodes.
Watching Tori's face Is so wonderful.
Thank you so much 😊❤🎬
“Grandpa, maybe you can come back and read it to me tomorrow?”
“As you wish.”🥲
As a 56 year old grandpa that scene brings a tear to the eye.
The Grandfather was definitely saying "I love you" at the end.
Marjorie Mason played "The Ancient Booer" in _The Princess Bride._
In _The Dark Crystal,_ Aughra was voiced by Billie Whitelaw.
When Boba Fett said to Darth Vader "As you wish", what he meant was "I love you".
🤣🤣
And, when Vader said it to Tarken.
"If it's your first time here..."
Inconceivable!
Inconceivable!
My favorite line(s):
(pause in swordfight)
"Who are you?
"No one of consequence."
"I must know."
"Get used to disappointment."
"Okay."
(swordfight resumes)
Tori's face is so expressive. Perfect for reaction videos.
I truly appreciate it, thank you so much 😊❤🎬
My favorite line is "dose anyone want a peanut?"
I love the idea that the story is the story of their family, long ago. That it's been passed down and codified so everyone who hears it hears the same version. I also like to think that the mom is the grandfather's daughter. No reason. It just makes me happy to think so.
I used to wonder how Inigo could sustain the knife wound and the the stab of each arm, and still defeat the Count. Someone in the comments of another reaction pointed out how Inigo kisses the miracle pill right before he gives it to Wesley, thereby giving him some of it’s healing powers.
Favorite line - "Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has."
“You keep saying that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.” 😎
In the sword duel, they use authentic fencing terms.
William Goldman, the actual author of the book, and the screenwriter, said he asked his two young daughters what they wanted him to write a story for them about. One daughter wanted a story about a Princess, the other wanted a story about a bride. The Princess Bride. Goldman is a brilliant screen writer., We read his first novel in high school in the 70s, "The Temple of Gold"...
He also wrote Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid.
its hard not to quote this movie when you've memorized the script
Margery Mason played the booing woman, but Billie Whitelaw was the voice of Aughra. Her last film was as the hotelier Joyce Cooper in Hot Fuzz. If you've not seen that yet I heartily recommend it.

According to the story, "The Princess Bride" is a very old book, old enough that no, the grandfather can't be Westley.
Interestingly, the country Prince Humperdinck rules is named Florin. The florin was a golden coin that was minted in Florence between 1252 and 1533. The kingdom Prince Humperdinck wants to go to war with is named Guilder. The word "guilder" is an English translation of the Dutch and German word "gulden," originally shortened from the High German phrase "guldin pfenninc," which means "gold penny" - another name for a florin. Which should tell you all you need to know about Florin, Guilder, and Prince Humperdinck's desire to start a war.
a young robin wright was truly a wonder to behold
I love how they snuck in a "go f yourself", when the member of the Brute Squad yells "Ho there" at Inigo and Inigo says "keep your joder", in Spanish, joder means "to f*ck" so telling him to keep it is telling him to f himself.
Oh wow!
@@RuntotheMoviesI love that little bit, lol
The look on her face… when Wesley‘s fate is told he never reached his destination. (the one who knows!) is priceless with that mouth. Drop of the one who doesn’t know.!!
Fun fact: Princess Buttercup is the same actress as Jenny in Forrest Gump!
"Hello, My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!!
"Stop saying that!!". 😮
There are some great performances in this film. Andre The Giant as Fezzig, Wallace Shawn as Vezzini, Mandy Patankin as Inigo, Carey Elwes as Wesley, Robin Wright Penn as Buttercup, Billy Crystal as Miracle Max. 😂
"Good bye boys. Good luck storming the castle."
-Miracle Max
"It'll take a miracle... Good bye."

Dont forget that the evil Prince was later the voice of Pumpkin Jack in Nightmare Before Christmas :)
My most beloved line in this movie is not "As You Wish" or even "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."
It is:
"Have fun storming the castle!"
Have fun storming the castle!
Miracle Max is awesome... and Billy Crytal btw... not everyone catches that with the make up (assuming the commenter knows... more for others who may be reading)
Favourite line will never not be Ynigo's "I want my father back you son of a bitch" for two reasons, 1 it's so badass, and the main reason because the actor (can't remember the name off the top of my head) lost his father to cancer during filming if I'm not mistaken so it really gives so much more power in his role and give's him a undeniably real feel to his character.
"WHO ARE YOU?"
"NO ONE OF CONEQUENCE"......FAVORITE LINE😊
😸
This is my family’s go to movie to quote! Like we literally do it all the time! Lol.
How can you not? It would take a miracle not to...
Most underrated line. "It's conceivable." -- Westley
I've yet to find a better example of comedic timing than when Westley says "Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist," and the R.O.U.S. *immediately* flies into his face from off-screen.
Love your reactions to The Princess Bride, it is one of those films that you cannot help but get engrossed in. Count Rugen (the six fingered man) is actor Christopher Guest who is married to Jamie Lee Curtis.
He is also the Doctor in "A Few good Men"......
@@CoastalNomadHe has a role in almost every Rob Reiner movie. The biggest one is the guitarist from This is Spinal Tap. In that movie, his amp went up to 11, just like his fingers in this one. :)
I love the meme
"Ive just sucked one year of your life away"
"Please tell me it was 2020"
🤣
I'm the same age as Fred Savage (The sick boy). I saw this in the theater. I loved the charm of the characters and writing.
"I want my father back you son of a bitch."
Mandy Patinkin said in an interview that his father had died the year before he did this movie. When he said that line he was saying it to the cancer that killed his father. That is why it is so powerful.
As you wish = I love you. He was telling his grandson he loved him!
Grandpa was telling his grandson that he loves him.
Great reaction as usual you two. So glad you watched this classic. The theme behind the theme was sometimes as young kids we don't see grandparents as fun. The whole story you can see the grandson getting more and more invested in the story and how his grandpa tells the tale. He realizes how wonderful it is to hear the tale told by his grandpa. It hits in the end as when the grandson asks his grandpa to come back and read. As one commenter said, like "as you wish" was grandpa telling his grandson I love you but so great it was line from story. This is a beautiful movie about love and that our grandparents bring vast amounts of knowledge and lore to our lives. They are our are history :)
She is jenny, in Forrest Gump!RIP to Andre the Giant! Billy Crystal as miracle max, his must watches are, When Harry met Sally, Throw momma from the Train, City Slickers 1-2. He got a laugh when a guy sitting at a table near him in a restaurant asked Billy what he ordered. Then he told Billy he himself got a BLT. And then told Billy," it's great when the bacon is lean, it's nice and leeeeeeen!" Mind blown...what if grandpa is a offspring of Wesley or Indigo? 😮😮😮
The video game Fallout New Vegas pays tribute to this movie. There's a location named "Broc Flower Cave" where if you target some of the giant rats inside it will show up as an ROUS.
I love that you put that clip of Bert saying "The Machine" in this reaction. LOL!!! Hilarious!
Glad you enjoyed that bit! 😸
Since this movie came out, the Fire Swamp has become one the most popular Honeymoon destinations in the world.
It was very fun watching this with you both.

So much background in this movie.
Robin Wright who played Buttercup is married to Sean Penn.
Chris Sarandon who played Humperdinck is Susan Sarandon’s brother.
Peter Falk who played the Grandfather was Columbo in the TV series.
Fred Savage the grandson was the main character in The Wonder Years TV Series.
Cary Elwes, farm boy / pirate, played Robin Hood, Men In Tights among several famous movies.
Billy Crystal who played Miracle Max was on Saturday Night Live, City Slickers, When Harry Met Sally.
Carol Kane played his wife, most remembered for her part as the pixie in Bill Murray’s movie Scrooged. She was hilarious.
Need to read stories from behind the scenes on this movie.
You are almost right.
Robin Wright WAS married to Sean Penn, from 1996-2010.
Chris Sarandon and Susan Sarandon were married from 1967-1979. They are not siblings.
When Westley dives into the lightning sand, we always take a breath with him and see if we can hold it as long as he does.
Vinzzini: "No more rymes now, I mean it!"
Fizzig: "Anyone want a peanut?"
20:09 Thank you for mentioning this, as I learned something in looking up the answer. I always thought that Aughra was voiced by Frank Oz. But it turns out that although he was her puppeteer, her voice was supplied by Billie Honor Whitelaw.
Whereas the "Boo!" lady in this film was acted by Margery Mason.
Lord Farquaad's similarity to Prince Humperdinck isn't a coincidence. Farquaad's look was based on Humperdinck.
The woman who played the ancient boo-er in the crowd was an actress named Margery Mason. She had a long career in film and TV. You might know her from the Harry Potter movie, The Goblet of Fire. She was the sweets trolly lady.
I guess we all owe Buttercup an apology. it was funny to see that someone else didn't recognize Wesley
I am convinced that Tori is the best reactor on the Internet. Her facial expressions are out of this world and she seems 100% authentic. All the RthM girls do. Thank you for making these videos for us.
im smiling from ear to ear, this truly means the world to me 🌎
thank you so much for such a flattering comment ❤
The best swordfight on film. Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin Trained for months with the best sword trainer in Hollywood. When it came time to film the scene Rob Reiner was sorely disappointed. They were so good, that the fight lasted mere seconds. He forced them to slow down so it would look more "realistic". IMO one of the best films of all time.
After we recorded the reaction, we watched a RUclips video that broke down and explained that fight. It was fascinating.
A lot of people say that, but no, i think the grandpa is just saying "I love you" at the end lol
My favorite lines from this movie are "is this a kissing book?" and "as you wish"
yes!! "as you wish" is my favorite 😊
Thanks for the great reaction. The Princess Bride is a brilliant comedic novel, the screenplay for the movie was written by the author of the novel. The conceit of the novel is that 'The Princess Bride' is a boring novel about Florin court politics so the grandfather is taking elements and making up the quirky story we see in the film. There are even more layers to the satire if you want to read the book by William Goldman. So, it is an interesting question whether the grandfather is Wesley since he is making up the story as he goes.
Thanks for watching with us!
A simple movie that adapts a book to film (literally). It doesn't need CGI that will soon look dated and poor years later. It doesn't need shoehorned exposition dumps the way many movies do. It accomplishes character development well without extra filler. It allows the audience to follow along (think the 6 fingered man set up and reveal) without forceful and jarring dragging from plot point to plot point. It naturally flows. You can look at a character's actions and go yeah ...I can see them doing that or acting that way. You can't say you weren't cheering on Enigo when he found the six fingered man. Character development the way it's supposed to be. I love this movie. Never again will we have a movie that adapts from a book work so well. The story has a little bit for everyone. Wish more movie studios would use this type of movie structure.
When I was a kid my aunt and uncle had a satellite dish (a big deal at the time) and sent us VHS tapes of a bunch of movies. There were several good ones, but we absolutely couldn't get enough of Princess Bride, Ghostbusters and Spaceballs.
All these years later and I just realized that Inigo's going to be a pirate who can't swim.
You are right! Maybe he'll learn to swim as part of his pirate training...

When I was 22 I met a young woman and started a long distance relationship with her as she lived in NY State and I lived in Tennessee (I met her when she was in town visiting her aunt, uncle, and cousins who I vaguely knew through friends of mine). We loved this movie and watched it frequently when I, on a whim, moved up to live near her for the winter (literally made the decision after working a double one night, stayed up all night packing, and drove the 14 hours north the next morning. I was impulsive). We would quote it back and forth to each other often, and always enjoyed it. The relationship lasted three years, but we're still great friends now 30 years later, and we'll still drop lines from this movie into our conversations. 😀
When my best friend got married when I was 25, I was the best man and two of our friends were groomsmen. We were standing around at the rehearsal in our spots the day before the wedding when one of the groomsmen suddenly said, "Mawwiage." Both groomsmen and I burst out laughing, but the next day during the ceremony we couldn't make eye contact with each other, or even look in each other's direction for fear that we'd burst out laughing thinking "Mawwaige." 😀
Grandpa's "As you wish." still brings a tear to my eye at the end of the movie. He wasn't Westley of course, just using his way of saying "I love you." to his grandson and telling him he'd be back to read the book the next day. Such an awesome movie on so many levels!
I also love that the entire swordfight was done by Cary Elwes (Westley) and Mandy Patinkin (Inigo), except for Westley's gymnastic leap from the heights. They practiced and practiced so hard for that and they made it look amazing! Cary Elwes wrote a memoir of making the movie called "As You Wish" that is a wonderful read. Highly recommended!
Thank you so very much for sharing these memories. ♥️
Tori, when I saw this in theaters, at the end when grandpa says "as you wish", I also thought the grandfather was an older Westley!
Every one who sees this movie or reads the book says "As you wish" at least a few times afterwards. We can't all be Wesley.
He reminds everyone who saw Shrek first of Farquad. I'm sure he was part of the inspiration for his 'look'.
Tori looked a 'little nervous' when the eel attacked.
Andre the Giant was an absolute legend. He was prouder of this film than any of his wrestling. It's a shame gigantism always comes with health problems.
Farquad was a combination of Humperdink and Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney. Many of the Dreamwork's staff came from Disney and hated Eisner so they gave Farquad Eisner's face. And if you say his name with an English accent it sounds very much like f*ckwad and that was completely intentional.
@@ronweber1402 Eisner isn't CEO of Disney now, Bob Iger is.
@@TheCkent100 D'oh!, you're right.
More than that, Humperdink wanted the forest cleared before his marriage, just like in Shrek
