Andre the Giant said that this was one of his favorite projects because all the other actors just recognized him as a colleague and didn't make a big deal about his size. He said he felt like one of the gang.
True story Emma. While filming the scene up on the battlement when Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik are discussing how to storm the castle, Andre The Giant let out a 16 second fart that brought filming to a halt and left the actors and crew in stunned silence. Everyone was afraid to say anything until Rob Reiner, the director asked "Are you okay, Andre?" He replied "I am now boss." Carey Elwes has shared the experience in multiple interviews through near tears of laughter. You've got to love Andre. What a kind soul and absolute legend!
Another fun fact. Actor Mandy Patinkin, who played Inigo Montoya, had recently lost his father to cancer when he was 18, only a few years prior to filming The Princess Bride. When Mandy kills Count Rugen near the end of the film, you can hear him briefly lose his accent as he delivers the line "I want my father back, you son of a bitch." In an interview, he has stated that he was speaking directly to the cancer that took his father when he said that line. It definitely adds another layer to the scene. What a phenomenal actor. This is honestly one of the most pure and wonderful films in my collection. I watch it frequently. I hope you add it to your collection too. If you're ever feeling down or hopeless, this movie will bring a smile of comfort to your face 🥰
Also, Christopher Guest (Count Rugen) said that it actually scared him because he could see and hear the rage coming off of Patankin. For a moment, he thought he might actually kill him.
Mel Smith, the albino, began his comedy career in a sketch show with Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), and the Bishop, Peter Cook, was a very well spoken man who helped start the careers of several members of Monty Python.
I grew up watching the big guy (Andre the Giant) when he was a wrestler in the WWE. When this movie first came out and I saw that Andre was in it, I immediately wanted to see it. Andre has always been known as a gentle giant and he loved being in this movie because everyone treated him so well as a person and his size was never an issue. I've seen a lot of interviews and everyone in this movie loved Andre and they have nothing but positive stories and things to say about him. I wish that I had a chance to meet him.

When the 5' 6" 120lb Robin Wright met the 7' 520 lb Andre The Giant for the first time she was terrified that he would accidentally crush or otherwise hurt her. But she would later claim that he was one of the most gentle persons that she had ever met.
Mandy and Cary spent months training with an olympic fencing champion and both could fence with either hand, the fight scene was made longer than originally planned to showcase their skills. They did all the fighting and only had stand ins for the swinging scene.
This would pay dividends later when Elwes starred in Mel Brooks "Robin Hood: Men in Tights". His swordplay in that was fantastic and he needed almost no refresher for it prior to the choreography of the scenes.
The "Giant", was played by Andre the Giant, a professional wrestler from France. That was his real voice. He was a real, gentle giant, 7' 4" inches tall and over 500 pounds
This movie ranks in the top 5 of my all-time favorites. I’m so glad that you reacted to it. Your laughter and commentary has joyfully completed my experience. ❤❤❤
The Princes Bride came out at a very tramatic time in my life. I was getting a divorce from the woman I loved, the mother of my children. This movie was the balm I needed for my wounded soul. We did go through with the divorce, but we reconciled three yers later and have been together ever since, This movie holds a very, very special place in my heart. It gave me solace and comfort when I needed it most.
So good to see your channel continue to grow. THE PRINCESS BRIDE represents the classic love story. It is also the classic fairy tale. The story appeals to everyone. It is one of my favorites and you make it even more delightful.😊❤
I watched this movie with my daughters like 20 times ❤️❤️❤️ another movie like this one that I hardly ever see anyone react too is second hand lions… loved that movie
Remember the Miracle Pill? Inigo kissed it as a prayer just before he fed it to Wesley. If you wonder why he was badly wounded but was just strong enough to keep going...a little bit of miracle also went to him :-)
That big guy is Andre the giant who was a professional wrestler until it passed away from a disease that wouldn’t let him stop growing in his heart finally gave out because his body was too big to support it
Andre the Giant loved this movie so much, he brought copies with him on the road when he was wrestling. Many wrestlers have said he loved to watch it in his hotel rooms and always invited them to come watch it with them. And it's true, what others have said about him being a gentle giant. The actress who played Buttercup said that when it got cold out, Andre would palm the top of her head to help keep her warm. His hand was big enough to almost entirely cover her skull!
10:04 The reason you don't hear a live orchestra instead of the synth music is because the story is being played out in the head of a young boy whose exposure to music comes from the video games he plays.
28:55 THIS!!! This one line has informed me so deeply ever since I first heard it said! Don't rush a miracle; infinite patience for the kitchen because I can't stand the taste of "panic" and "frustration" in my food. Don't bitch to the weather while she's busy weathering or she'll run you over with the next shuffle. Mechanics, especially airline mechanics... i'm good, you do what you need to get done. There are a couple of lines we still use from this. Just this very morning, as my wife was leaving to go to work, she said to me, "Have fun storming the castle!"
@@atomfallen2409 I'm not Spanish, but I speak Spanish from spending a few years as a nomad in South America (mostly Peru), so they would say I speak Castellano. They mean that, too. Even their ATMs have the options "Castellano or English." I've had people ask me in Peru, "Where did you learn Castellano?" and if I was to ask them, "Do you mean Spanish?" they'd say "We're not speaking Spanish." I know a little Quechua too and I use some Quechua words sometimes when I speak. I'd love to go to Spain with my Peruvian dialect and Caucasian looks to confuse the hell out of everyone.
Andre also legendarily drank a bottle of hard liquor, a bottle of wine, or two and 12 beers for lunch. Then he passed out on the floor. By evening he had shaken it off, and landed a scene.
And nobody could move him, so he slept where he landed. Probably not the first time that happened. Also, his hands were so large that he could hold a can of beer and you wouldn't even know it.
yes, Andre would drink large quantities, often to little effect, to counter the back pain he had for years, but he rarely did that for lunch. he did pass out on the floor once and was left until he woke up in the morning, but it was at night, in a hotel's public space. Carey's memoir of making the movie, As You Wish, is a great read and has a number of these stories. iirc, it has a picture of Andre holding a large drinking glass that looks like a juice glass in his hand.
One of the best cult classic movies of all time... “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die”. I loved the cast including stars like: Andre the Giant (wrestler), Billy Crystal (comedian & actor), Carol Kane, Fred Savage, Wallace Shawn and Peter Falk (fabulous actor, also known for his role as Columbo)
Knowing that you are a singer, I suggest that you check out Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya) singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow on RUclips. He started his career on Broadway in musicals and now does singing tours all over the world when he isn't acting. I think you'd love it!!
Wesley isn't playing with her, he's testing her. To make sure she really did love him. Also, she couldn't recognize him because it's been five years for her.
RIP Andre. What a great movie. INCONCIEVABLE!! 🤣🤣 Oh one of my favorites! I want my father back you son of a b*tch! GREAT LINE!! DROP...YOUR...SWORD! Love it!!!
Emma, you mentioned the music not being a real orchestra and you are correct. The score was written by Mark Knopfler, singer/guitarist/songwriter for the band Dire Straits. All the music in the film was performed by Mark on guitars and Dire Straits keyboardist Guy Fletcher. The song “Storybook Love” was written and sung by Willy DeVille.
I've watched this at least 30 times over the years, loving it each time. It's one of the few perfect movies. And the entire film is in the last three words: As you wish.
Emma, This movie was written by the great William Goldman, who also wrote the western, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - another great movie that’s well worth watching. Anyway, he asked his young daughters what he should write about- one said, A princess and the other said, A bride. There you have it. - Thomas
In high school English Class, the first novel I ever read was "The Temple of Gold" by William Goldman (his first), akin to "Catcher in the Rye" - Goldman also wrote "Marathon Man" the book and the movie, another that deserves more reaction videos.
@ Marathon Man was quite a movie. Love it. The dental drilling scenes (Is it safe?) really put off a lot of potential box office patrons to the extent that the movie underperformed at the box office. I’ve got William Goldman’s book, Adventures in the Screen Trade. It’s a really fascinating book on how movies get made, or not made.
The reason Inigo didn't die from Count Rugens dagger was because, when Inigo gave Westley the miracle pill, he kissed it first. That contact with the pill was enough to save him. (I made that up, but it fits the story) 😊
I *LOVE* this story. I was 16 years old when this movie premiered in 1987. It is my favorite movie, except on the days when I feel like *The Godfather* is my favorite movie. Some days *The Princess Bride* is my favorite movie, and some days *The Godfather* is my favorite movie.
This movie is pretty much perfect, the script is terrific and incredibly quotable, the cast is perfect and I would highly recommend watching behind the scenes interviews because the entire cast absolutely loved the movie, loved making the movie, and consider it one of their favorites they have ever done. It is one of the few films that I never don't enjoy watching it. Really loved your reaction and engagement with the movie and how into it you were!
I love this movie. The dialogue was amazing. It's basically a perfect movie. Funny, action, romance. Life lessons. The simplicity of reading. Twue Wove. :D
This is my absolute favorite movie, ever! I’ve loved it since I saw as a kid it in the theaters when it was released. I also would have a lot of explaining to do to Inigo Montoya, because I was actually born with six fingers on my right hand.
Fun fact: "The Princess Bride" and "Misery" are (unexpectedly) linked... They were both directed by the same director (Rob Reiner) and they both had their screenplay written by the same writer (William Goldman).
Andre was by all accounts the kindest man alive unless he didn’t like you and then, as been said by many wrestlers, “God help you!” I miss him but glad he’s no longer in pain. RIP 🪦 you magnificent giant of a human!!🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯
If you like this, you would love the 1973 "Three Musketeers" film and at least its immediate sequel the 1974 "The Four Musketeers." Very similar vibe of humor.
absolutely! an all-star cast with amazing costumes and settings, directed by Richard Lester, who also did both "Help" and "A Long Day's Night" for the Beatles. fantastic, brawling swordplay!
As you wish. But really it should be what makes both people happy, not just as you wish. Sweet movie that would be exciting to a young child. I heard that the sword fight is used to show new students of the art. It took months of practice for the film.
Great movie. This movie is for everyone boys and girls it is such a great movie. This movie is based on a book where the person who wrote the book wrote the screenplay for this movie. The scene with Wesley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. There was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also watch Lady Hawk, Wilow, Labyrinth 1986 and The Never Ending Story.
This is one of the first movies my dad showed me as a kid. Lots of concepts went over my head and I asked lots of questions. To put it in perspective I was a little younger than the sick kid being told the story! I was instantly hooked. As time passed I memorized all the words and came to understood most innuendos as well as the lessons this film/anti-fairytail teaches. (Westley was my childhood crush btw, I even subconsciously date men that resemble Cary elwes lol) Perhaps one of the hardest lessons I’ve been previously exposed to by this movie and recently experienced for myself was the loss of my father, the very man who introduced me to this wonderful movie. I even watched it the night he passed. Tbh I haven’t been able to watch it in full since. These reactions are helping me enjoy this masterpiece again. I think it’s a blend of commentary company and the film is chopped up. Thank you
Wesley was mad at Buttercup because she got engaged and pretty quickly after he left. She didn't love her new fiancé and had little choice in the matter. But _he_ didn't know that. As far as Wesley was concerned, Buttercup had replaced him in no time at all.
I ran into him (must be 30+ years ago now) at a gas station in the middle of nowhere (south central NC). It turned out he had a farm in the area. It was so incongruous and mind bending to see the famous 7' Frenchman stooping to fit under the door lintel. It's my understanding his ashes were returned to that farm after his funeral in France.

I've been watching Columbo on Ama Prime. It's there free.
A must, Peter Falk and Alan Arkin, "The In-Laws" 1979
Also "The Cheap Detective" (1979), Neil Simon's hilarious parody of both "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon," with Falk in the Humphrey Bogart role.

This is on my top ten for comedic adventure . Oh and by the way , great shade of green . It makes your skin tone glow .
Watch part 2 and see Buttercup yell, "Run Forrest Run".
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Life is like a box of Miracle Max’s chocolates.”
Fantastic, in every sense. Vizzini, the clever guy, makes me laugh a lot 😂
Very good video "Emma. I really enjoyed experiencing this again with you.🦋💐
Glad you enjoyed it!
A funny movie! Love your commentary!
I was so confused as a kid, I thought he was Zorro. "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die". 😂
Well, if you read the book version, it becomes clear that while very brave, loyal, and intuitive... Buttercup is not terribly smart.
I loved your reaction to this great film, Emma. I think that it's one of the best films of all time. 😊
I totally agree! 👍
@@Emma_Reactions I'm glad that you think so too, Emma. 😊
Hello Emma, Hope you’re doing well🍁Your going to love this movie😉So take care and have a Nice weekend ❣️….I’m loving the green shirt👌
Thank you!🙋🏼♀️
This is one of the first movies my dad showed me as a kid. Lots of concepts went over my head and I asked lots of questions. To put it in perspective I was a little younger than the sick kid being told the story!
I was instantly hooked.
As time passed I memorized all the words and came to understood most innuendos as well as the lessons this film/anti-fairytail teaches.
(Westley was my childhood crush btw, I even subconsciously date men that resemble Cary elwes lol)
Perhaps one of the hardest lessons I’ve been previously exposed to by this movie and recently experienced for myself was the loss of my father, the very man who introduced me to this wonderful movie.
I even watched it the night he passed.
Tbh I haven’t been able to watch it in full since.
These reactions are helping me enjoy this masterpiece again.
I think it’s a blend of commentary company and the film is chopped up. Thank you
You Have Good Taste Sweetheart,Nice Reaction To This Great Classic Movie & See You at The Next One 😊
You are such a child at heart. True love for everyone.
Wesley was mad at Buttercup because she got engaged and pretty quickly after he left. She didn't love her new fiancé and had little choice in the matter. But _he_ didn't know that. As far as Wesley was concerned, Buttercup had replaced him in no time at all.
Prince Humperdink was the inspiration for Lord Farquad, in the first "Shrek" movie.
Inconceivable! Jack and Jill strike again ;-)
Yay Thank You Beautiful 🥰💕
Andre was one of the Greatest Wrestlers ever Known,,,,was lucky enough to see'm work a few times bNd he was sure a sight to see in action🌎
Emma Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
No R.O.U.S.s were harmed in the making of this movie.
Was then & still one of my all time favorites....as u wish ❤
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗✨✨✨❤️❤️❤️
