Great content Peter! I come from a large Italian family and love it when your sister comes on... Real reviews from real people! I love the family vibe! Cheers!
I've been teaching for 28 years so I hope I'm good. I treat every year as my first year. Penelope Barrel Strength is good. I just prefer the Toasted and Architect more. Cheers!
I fully agree with you guys on this one. It is a little hot but it’s tasty. I’m a big fan of Penelope, but this is my least favorite. if you happen to get a hold of the light whiskey 100% corn that was aged 18 years in bourbon barrels, it’s freaking insane.
Thanks for review as I haven't explored the Penelopes yet. BTW, I love how you edit the videos where you jump forward the audio with the tasting expressions.
Nice job! I have a small office in my shop that’s 5ft x 9ft and I’ll have a 1 to 1.5oz pour and let it set on my desk for 10-15 minutes with the door closed and when I walk back in I usually get a lot of nice aromas!
Good video and always great seeing you and your sister. I like this bottle. Not a favorite as I love the Penelope 9 yr and the Toasted Barrel Proof Four Grain.
Thanks! It’s so nice that Peter’s viewers don’t mind me jumping on from time to time. It’s always so much fun for the two of us. It’s nice to know it’s also fun for you as well. I’ll be with him for all the Sip it or Skip it’s in June!! 😊Cheers! 🥃
@@whiskeyisajourney 100% I went with a local liquor store last year to pick a toasted barrel. That was right b4 MGP bought them out. It's really cool to have my name on a bottle though!
There is a batch 17 near me for $60. I always describe bourbon as a “10 lane highway” with each lain representing a flavor note and typically only a sub portion of lanes are utilized with each lane acting at different intensities. But it’s pretty much always the same “10/or subset” of 10 flavors that we spot in bourbon over and over. Scotch. Scotch though, for me, has dozens and dozens and dozens of lanes and every scotch will occupy some subset of lanes.
Great review! Of the other Penelopes that you have tried, what would you recommend for a first Penelope offering? I’ve never tried any Penelope. Cheers to the both of you!
If you can, find the white label, which is their 80 or 90 proof if the BS scares you. In my humble opinion it's one of the few sb's I enjoy because it tastes like the cask strength.
Hey I loved hearing Mary Bridget mentioned my recommendation to try the Lagavulin 16!! Please try it!! This Penelope was a bit rough for me. Very hot. Like Mary Bridget I didn't think it would be this hot on nosing. Skip it!! Hugs to you two!! Wish I was heading out on the BBQ trips!! 🙂
It’s always so fun to give well deserved shout outs whenever possible. We’ll do another one when I get around to tasting it to let you and everyone else know what I thought! Cheers! 🥃
I love the Penelop BS. I have a store pick of it too. I have tried all of their offerings except the newest rye toasted. I did not like the Rio or Valencia. I like the Architect and have a store pic that I am looking forward to opening tomorrow when friends come over. The Tokaji and Rose barreled are great too.
@@whiskeyisajourney Just so you're aware. The original Toasted was bourbon. After the buy out, MGP switched it to rye, which is now in some stores. I liked the Toasted so well I bought a back up. I love rye so a rye toasted sounds great. Wanted 1 bottle fall back on. RY3 is made in Va Bch, secondary casking only, no idea who produces the aged rye. Their toasted in really great. Not sure if its made its way out west yet.
@@hoobeydoobey1267 i have not seen RY3 yet. Good to know about the toasted Penelope rye. I might have to pick up a bottle. It's sitting on the shelf at my local TW now.

Nothing better than a big Italian family!! Thanks for the nice feedback. I enjoy when I get a chance to film with him. It’s a ton of fun! Cheers!
I bet you are a fantastic science teacher. Love the video! I am a big fan of the Penelope barrel strength myself, but to each, they're own.

Thanks. A lot of people like that edit as well. I appreciate the feedback. Cheers!
Just got this bottle but it's batch 18 at 114 proof. It's a nice bottle for sure. Never had it before this one I picked up. Great vid!
Thanks. I also like the price of the bottle even though it was a skip. Cheers!

When I do flight and I leave the room and come back in you can definitely smell alcohol within the entire room. It's my rickhouse studio. 😊

I tried the Toasted, but not the 9. I've heard good things about the 9. It has eluded me so far.

I'm a big fan of Penelope I absolutely enjoy the 9 year. Trying to get the American light whiskey.
That is one bottle that has eluded me. Cheers!
I agree with you. Knowing all their other options, this is at the bottom of their own lineup for me as well.
Toasted is better along with the Architect.

I picked up batch 16 last week for $50 (yay Sams). Sounds like I'm going to enjoy it....but it'll be a while, too many open bottles.
I do like how they price their bottles. Penelope is relatively affordable. Cheers!
I've actually have gotten initial notes while pouring tequila. That's when you know you have a special bottle. :) Cheers. Great episode.

Yeah, MGP bought them. Penelope is a brand I haven't spent much time with. I have their Architect and it's not bad.
It has been a while since I reached for the Architect, but if I recall it was my favorite of the Penelope.

I personally like the Penelope Architect. I also think you can't go wrong with any of them. Just go for the bottle that's under $60
