@@BardockSkywalker well actually it didn't look that bad. The fact is that (sorry if I don't remember all the names) the lead animator on that was this guy, who does a particular style of "limited animation" director Hiroyuki Imaishi likes really a lot. One of the best little details of the final Combination with Kamina is that when it shows the digital reading of the drill penetrating Kamina's cockpit, the human symbol representing his life signs was still blacked out. All Gundam series believe it or not, although I think some of their OVAs/movies might have been manga first. Ghibli films often start from books, but Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away were original stories, as far as I know. Then you have concurrent examples: Evangelion is a weird case where anime was being made first, but they released the manga first. Madoka was anime first, but the corresponding manga chapters were released very shortly after the episodes. Honestly, I'm willing to bet that the Mangaka chose an English name, but because Japanese phonetics pronounce it differently, the Japanese voice actors went with what sounded natural to them instead of pronouncing it the English way. You see, Japanese vowels aren't pronounced the same way English vowels are. In order to get the "eye" sound from Japanese vowels, you'd have to use "ai". And there aren't really any vowels that would make a clear "uh" sound in Japanese. As it is spelled, using Japanese phonetics, Simon would be pronounced Sea-moan. (As it is pronounced in the anime) The "i" makes the "ee" sound, like in meet, while the "o" says its name. I honestly think this is just a case of phonetic differences. It should be fine to pronounce it either way, because it's essentially the same name regardless.

Oh yeah. This show. One of my all time favorites. Kamina might be popular but Simon’s character growth is something to love. Also Nia is adorable and Yoko is amazing. Plus here’s a fun fact, Leeron’s English VA is the same as Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Steve Blum.
This is my absolute favorite anime ever for all the reason you said in the video: great story building, amazing character building, animation quality is just top notch and music that makes your body produce adrenaline by the universe load. I really hope you'll do a part two!
Ahh my favourite anime :D:D Also Viral is an anagram for rival which is really relevant as you will see. Also Also this is an anime original so the manga was done after the anime blew up.
Since reaching adulthood,Gurren lagann has shaped into another tone after my newest revisit. Before all I saw as a teen saw unlimited manliness, now however, I see the animated modern Shakespearean tragedy it really was. For a poor soul fought literally against the world, losing his idolized mentor, crewmen and family, and eventually his love of his life to save Earth. In the end, he gained unravelling godly powers yet has nothing to put his heart towards anymore, just a wondering lone wolf, a god that has no pursuit within the world that he saved. I love this anime to death but it breaks my heart every time I review this absolute masterpiece.
The track you're looking for at 32:44 is "All you bastards, get fired up!!!"/"omaera zenin moete shimaetsu!!!". There actually is an official AMV/music video of the song, but it's a canon prequel of the series, and will have major spoilers if you watch it before the end, so I would try listening to a generic upload of it until then.
Also rlq how does this make sense if Lordgenome already fought in space with gunmen then how does it make sense that they need gunmen for gunmen to survive in space and underwater if the stuff already happened it’s like gunmen devolved
Just for the record, the final battle in this anime that you will cover in part 2 has two different endings, depending where you watch it. One of them shows a final mech form and the other doesn’t.
I'm so jazzed that you're so pulled into this anime. Reminds me of my first time watching it. Even now, I can't help but tear up at certain parts. Not just the sad parts, but the inspiring parts too. It's such a good watch and im truly in love with this anime!
The part immediately after Kamina dies pissed me off so extremely much. Simon is like 12 yrs old, and yet when Kamina dies everyone leaves him to grieve alone and simultaneously continue his duties as the (now) most important person on the ship. When he's breaking down and all, and his grief is causing the team to be put into danger no one stops to think "hey, maybe we should offer him actual help either physically in his every day tasks or mentally in comforting him. He is literally a child after all." But no instead they get all extremely frustrated with him as though he's supposed to be handling these issues like an adult which he clearly doesn't know how. Nobody else I've talked to got the same feeling so it may just be me, but I dunno. It just bothered me so extremely much that no one even so much as extended a hand to help him. They never even tried tbh
Gurren lagann was my first anime ever. It has a special place in my heart for showing me that anime shows aren‘t childrens cartoons. Needless to say, i loved everything about it, thanks for showing this to people who might not have seen it yet.
"Person who seems to have only watched the last 5 years of anime being impressed by a 2007 episode doing most of the things they liked about modern anime... and being weirdly clingy about which voice actor voiced what" the episode.
You reminded me of probably my all time favorite anime. After watching, I made sure to tell all my new anime friends to watch you video, then the anime itself. You do such good reviews with your unique style. im surprised this video didnt immediately hit viral...
Didn’t realize I watched this about a year ago. Anyways, you can find a lot of animation like this from the company behind the show: Trigger. They also are the ones behind Kill La Kill, Promenade, and BNA
I love the detail of Leeron nodding confidently as Simon gives his speech. Like 'you tell em, son'. You just know he believed in Simon's inner strength the whole damn time.
I am not the only one who kept looking up at the episode-counter getting more and more riled up as it counted closer to 8 and began shaking for IT to finally happen when the it was reached? Also, Kamina's phrase: "Believe in the me that believes in you!" is truly amazing. Kamina thought of Simon as the most amazing person and that Simon believed in him is what gave him confidence. And the same was true the other way around, with Simon believing that Kamina is amazing and that Kamina put so much on him gave Simon confidence and Kamina knew that.
For an Anime that's Been Released Since *2007!!* this Anime Is Fucking Impressive and Amazing, Suprisingly GREAT Animation For 2007...Became 1 of My Favorites In A Matter of Months
This show is great from start to finish, it is my personal number 1 anime of all ever since I watched it back in 2010ish... there is plenty of video essays breaking down how masterfully the story is created but to me it's more than that it was a story I needed at the exact moment I needed it I don't know if it would be a stretch to say it saved my life, The only 2 reasons I can think people don't like the second half is Kamina's death or the escalation of scale in the end episodes of which I could argue for hours why those are important to the series as a whole... great video for a great anime
Something to note Wins/Sins, the team who worked on Gurren Lagann would later mostly go to found their own studio, Studio Trigger. Trigger is known for the eccentric but detailed kind of work, Kill La Kill, Little Witch Academia and my personal fave, SSSS Gridman which is basically a love letter to tokusatsu, being an anime adaptation of the show Gridman... or as it was adapted in the states, Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. Yes, even the TITLE is a reference to the ENGLISH version. (And to those who are going to point out it gets a different meaning later, YES, but SSSS also fits the other one well)
Bruh I just realized sumn that made my heart wrench. The way Kaminas Dad said goodbye to him "Abayo Kamina" hella resembles the way he said goodbye to Simon "Abayo Nachiko"
i'm enjoying watchign this but GOD i'm gonna be mad when this episode ends when part 2 isn't out. i'm probably going to have to just re watch all of GL
Every time, EVERY TIME.... The kamina scene gets me man. I get teary eyed everytime I think about how it must feel for Simon, Yoko and the whole crew really, but especially Simon. That scene was so amazing, from the setup to the execution, to the fallout afterwards...

@@justaguyonyoutube1141 Nothing like that, no- I think they keep that since it's such a pivotal part of the story. That said, there *is* a really cool nod at the second movie's climax.
I have no idea if anyone has mentioned this or if you have noticed it, but Viral is an anagram for Rival which is exactly the type of character he was given. Not an enemy and not a friend but someone who always wanted to beat Kamina and then Simon to prove to himself that his pride was not misplaced. (also I've watched this anime so many time but anything that has to do with or reminds me of ep 8 makes my emotions burst lol)
There are multiple references to the classic anime Ashita no joe in TTGL, The Pigs, Kamina Pointing up with the light pointing down, Kamina's death in black and white, and the Cross Counter
38:10 I love how everyone is staring slack jawed at Simon’s Badass Boast, but the engineer is just nodding like he saw it coming a mile away. Man knew Simon had it in him!
Very excited for part 2. Gurren Lagann is my favourite anime by far and the second half (although has some issues) is just as if not more spectacular than the first.
The one thing I don’t get is the mech are designed for space but aren’t water proof? Even tho you have to be air tight for space?? Something else. I loved how the water general mentioned she was a good friend of the first general but it’s implied she was lying. But her last words were apologizing to him. Showing she wasn’t.
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this but when Kimina’s dies at the end the rain makes it look like Gurren Lagann is crying with everyone which makes it that more sadder. As if it somehow knows what happened and is also grieving.
Also. Gurren Lagann is undoubtably my favorite anime by far. I’ve probably seen it about five times, and I will never hate it. I’m glad to see someone reacting nicely to it

Oh yeah. This show. One of my all time favorites. Kamina might be popular but Simon’s character growth is something to love. Also Nia is adorable and Yoko is amazing. Plus here’s a fun fact, Leeron’s English VA is the same as Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Steve Blum.
Simon's sub VA also voices Natsu in Fairy Tail as well as sings the first 2 of Fairy Tail's OVA openings
Nia's English voice actress is also the voice of Starfire.
This is my absolute favorite anime ever for all the reason you said in the video: great story building, amazing character building, animation quality is just top notch and music that makes your body produce adrenaline by the universe load. I really hope you'll do a part two!
Already finished : ) Naturally will release in a good few weeks though
Don't forget Kamina the best thing in all anime is Kamina.
Best character ever.
Ahh my favourite anime :D:D
Also Viral is an anagram for rival which is really relevant as you will see.
Also Also this is an anime original so the manga was done after the anime blew up.
“Endeavor vs the Nomu” except the fact that Gurren Lagann came out 12-14 years before that fight was even written
I been watching anime since the 80's and Gurren Lagann is a masterpiece.
I legit teared up when Simon snapped out of his funk
I teared up when this anime
It’s by far my favorite scene from f the anime
You can say a lot of things about Gurren Lagan but you cannot tell me that the soundtrack isn't an absolute banger in honesty
Simon: pretty cool
Kamina: dope as hell
Aretenborough: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
This is the manliest and most iconic anime ever
We boutta do the impossible, we boutta see the invisible.
ROW ROW, FIGHT THE POWA
The wikia says Simon was 14 in part 1, so he was the same age as Yoko I believe, he was just super short. I agree with everything you said though.
Gurren lagann was my first anime ever. It has a special place in my heart for showing me that anime shows aren‘t childrens cartoons. Needless to say, i loved everything about it, thanks for showing this to people who might not have seen it yet.
Plz make part two asap but plz don't rush yourself this was my first anime that I have ever watched and u reviewing it gives me nothing but joy
Its finished. Will release in around 4-6 weeks
The moment Kamina first shows up in your video..and nostalgic feels mate.
I love the detail of Leeron nodding confidently as Simon gives his speech. Like 'you tell em, son'. You just know he believed in Simon's inner strength the whole damn time.
Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann is the most "hype" anime I've ever seen
Not even Dragonball comes near ne end of this anime
It's just NGGGGHHH
I agree for me it's gurren laggan (1)
Jojo(2)
Dragon Ball (3)
My hero academia (4)
@@its_Criminal1 true
I am not the only one who kept looking up at the episode-counter getting more and more riled up as it counted closer to 8 and began shaking for IT to finally happen when the it was reached?
Also, Kamina's phrase: "Believe in the me that believes in you!" is truly amazing.
Kamina thought of Simon as the most amazing person and that Simon believed in him is what gave him confidence.
And the same was true the other way around, with Simon believing that Kamina is amazing and that Kamina put so much on him gave Simon confidence and Kamina knew that.
Gurren lagann, The record holder of the biggest mech...ever.
I just realized kittans costume had spiral eyes
Foreshadowing
I love how the sins for each part half as long as the wins, gotta love it
This man is the only man who has made me watch 1 hour vids ever
4:25: alright everything’s going alright.
4:30: did he just call him Simon? DEUS VULT
YES I LOVE THIS ANIME, THANK YOU FOR REVIEWING THIS
Same bro. Same
For an Anime that's Been Released Since *2007!!* this Anime Is Fucking Impressive and Amazing, Suprisingly GREAT Animation For 2007...Became 1 of My Favorites In A Matter of Months
gah, Gurren Lagann was my second ever anime. and I recall it being amazing and I'm SO GLAD you're covering it
If you mind me asking just from curiosity what's first.
@@its_Criminal1 ahh my first ever anime was Fairy Tail, and though it’s not a good show, I love it more than anything else
Gurren Lagann was never my personal favorite show.
But holy cow is it the most epic work of media I have ever seen ever.
Yes yes yes thank you for doing my favorite anime of all TIME!!!
I am about to giga drill break that like button. Thanks so much for making this. Love this anime so much!
You're welcome!
(And to those who are going to point out it gets a different meaning later, YES, but SSSS also fits the other one well)
And Gurren Lagann is the complete opposite to NGE.
Bruh I just realized sumn that made my heart wrench. The way Kaminas Dad said goodbye to him "Abayo Kamina" hella resembles the way he said goodbye to Simon "Abayo Nachiko"
i watched that vid again to see how great of the master piece was
felt the
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER
Me: sees 46 minutes of Gurren Lagann
Always me: GIGA LIKE BREAKER!!!
I SAW GURREN LAGANN, I CLICKED!
This is hands down my favorite anime so thank you so much for making this!!!!!!
I did not expect this early of a christmas present
You gotta do Megalobox, amazing soundtrack, amazing fights that just make you want to bench press the moon.
i'm enjoying watchign this but GOD i'm gonna be mad when this episode ends when part 2 isn't out. i'm probably going to have to just re watch all of GL
I couldn't stop the eye juice once I saw Kamina's scene again... its beautiful and sad and SO meaningful...
32:43 the name of the song is " All of You, Get Burned!!! / Omaera Zen'in Moete Shimae!!! / お前ら全..."
Every time, EVERY TIME.... The kamina scene gets me man. I get teary eyed everytime I think about how it must feel for Simon, Yoko and the whole crew really, but especially Simon. That scene was so amazing, from the setup to the execution, to the fallout afterwards...
I think making simon be the main character allowed for a lot more character development, you’re always rooting for him
You should watch The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
As my friend once said "YES YES YES"
You should become a Patron and ask again
That shit is HILARIOUS! A fabtadyic dub on Netflix too
Anime Sins Sorry but I don’t have money so I was hoping someone who does have patron would get the idea to do that from my comment
@@AnimeSinsNEW yeah I can agree with darth warth and I get that you need to make money idk love your vids and I hope someone who as your patreon ask for saiki k because I love the comedy in it have a good one
Aww man love the video but i cant believe you watched it im eng sub Gurren Lagann has one of the best English dub but still a amazing video
Patreons picked sub, pledge if you'd like a say : )
32:45 All of you get burned from the Gurren Lagan soundtrack
Yay!! He's doing the GOAT
32:40 It's called "Omaera Zenin Moete Shimae"
Nikopol is the intense theme viral has, but it is also very good
@@LatteSoul3603 Indeed, I only heard the bit from the video, but I checked and it's Lordgenome's theme
Kittan may be Jean from Attack on Titan, but remember that Yoko is Armin as well.
Aah, an excellent choice!
Once you're finished with the series, you'll definitely want to watch the two movies- Gurren-Hen and Lagann-Hen- that retell the story with some amazing major alterations.
It's One of them an alteration where Kamina lives? Because I'd definitely watch that. Such a great character
When in doubt make Gurren Lagann bigger that’s all
I love viral, him and his warrior code when he finds out about kamina is one of my favorite moments
As if it somehow knows what happened and is also grieving.
dude wtf i was not expecting this i love this show so much so happy to see you watching it
You should look at the community tab bro, they're all listed there as to what's coming lol
@@AnimeSinsNEW ill definitely be on there from now on
Kamina and Simon are just Diavolo and Dopio in an alternate universe.
*Change my mind*
Also. Gurren Lagann is undoubtably my favorite anime by far. I’ve probably seen it about five times, and I will never hate it. I’m glad to see someone reacting nicely to it
Haven't seen the full anime before, but from what I've seen up to now- it is beautifully created.
Except episode 4.
Beware of episode 4.
Bro I’ve been waiting for you to do this since reincarnation of a slime this is my fav anime of all time thx man 💕
