It's super important to note, that you saying the animation quality stayed consistent throughout is why the team on this anime deserves ALLLLL the props. They actually ran out of budgeting before Episode 27. But they decided to push back the production, until they could get the budgeting to do the grandstand finale we ended up getting.
That being said, the two movies are basically them going back with the money they got with the anime, and touching up with some stellar scenes added. PRIMARILY, in the finale. Like, it honestly puts every thing else ever in existence to shame.

One of the things I've pointed out to myself after rewatching Gurren Lagann is why would they use CGI, though so far they've been doing great with their animation.
From the very first moment the antispirals appear on screen they stand out so much, you know that they are alien.
An IMO there isn't a better way to introduce something so inorganic and unalive in this otherwise chaotic, but organic world.

@Tahj Pollock that reasoning could be aplied to everyone who diednin the final battle. Nia was a spiralmlifeform seeded with code from the anti sprials that highjacked her she wasnt just code the fact she faded was an asspull way to ring a bit more emotion from the last battle.

I loved TTGL for its realism of grief and depression. Grief for loosing Kamina, showing us slowly the 5 phases and letting us know its ok to not be ok and take time to heal from trauma. Showing you one of many ways you can fight and shout back at the monsters inside you without substance abuse/self harm. Spiral power being will/determination/drive/self-esteem/whatever and Anti-Spirals being intrusive thoughts "Its not good enough", "Im not special" (they LITERALLY say it to Nia), "you cant do that/anything". This is my go-to "I need a smile" show.

From what I can tell, Gurren Lagann is voiced amazingly in Japanese, English and German.
Also, groing through all those deaths and sacrifices again was not easier the second time around...

Just one thing you said at the end, Simon was ALWAYS the one making the impossible happen, even when Kamina was alive, that is why Kamina believed in him and knew he could take care of things, Kamina might have been the leader but Simon was the miracleworker from the start.

52:50 In the movie they take it two steps further. The pure energy of the Anti-Spiral's attack takes Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann and houses it inside of a Simon shaped Spiral energy house called Super Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann. Then when they do the Russian nesting doll scene, Simon straight up destroys all but Gurren Lagann, meaning it's only his Spiral power against the Anti-Spiral. Simon breaks through with Gurren Lagann, only for Gurren to be torn apart. Even Lagann takes a few hits before launching Simon directly at the Anti-Spiral's main body. And a silent fist fight between Simon and the Anti-Spiral occurs.

Better yet, STTGL isn't Simon's form.... it's Kamina. Even in their final battle, every one of them had Kamina in their hearts, so much so their most powerful, largest mech ever took on his likeness, simply because he gave them that much hope.

hAHAHAHA,,, Your reactions are so relatable. This series is hands down the absolute greatest feat of storytelling in our time. If you browse forums, reddits and videos they are filled with comments from people who say this anime helped them break through depression, loosing loved ones, finding a will to live and its easy to understand why. It saved me too from ongoing existential angst and dredd and got me invested in living to the fullest once again. I have so much love for this story, the creaters and all my fellow diggers forging their way forward in life and laughing in the face of impossible odds! It is a heart breaking, beautiful journey that simultaniously shows us the best and worst of what we will experience in life. It breaks my heart even still when I think about Simone loosing Nia in the end. It sounds odd but I miss this series in the same way that I miss a great friend that I havn't seen in years and I really hope and wish for a return to that universe. Even if they covered the Spiral Kings life I would be stoked as ever since I saw Gurrenn Lagann....it has been difficult to find anything else that can accomplish 1 tenth of the experience this show gives. LETS GO TEAM DAI GURREN!!

Memories . . . . Of a younger, Anime-Curious soul wandering youtube for new EDM tracks when finding one with Yoko as the background image. After surfing the comments this young man decided to take the plunge and find somewhere to watch it. He found a random Anime site and proceded to get sucked in by unbelievable action seauences, gorgeous visuals, and hilarious comedy. Only to have his heart gut punched into his balls and make him experience true sadness (to the point of actual tears) for the first time watching any medium ever. After this there was no turning back. Through long nights and endless emptional roller coaster rides this young man gets up from his bed, series finished, immediately itching for more. And a new Anime nerd was born. This young man was me, and this series will always be permanantly affixed to my number one slot for this reason. It was hype, hilarious, heartbreaking, and goddamn balls to the walls epic all at once. I love you TTGL, thank you so much

this is one of the few anime that really, and i mean really, gives me a jittery feeling even though i have watched it several times over. I really do enjoy this anime, and its become one of my favorites. There was heart and soul put into this anime, it made it the best it could be. In fact, watching this just makes me want to go and rewatch it like my 7-8th time. This anime has incredible music, the art style is amazing, the story is one of the best, they always make time for comedy, they have their serious moments but use those moments to deepen characters and their relationships, and they made a clear message too. That message was that even though life might try to screw you over, sometimes pushing forward can make it turn out the best. There was also death and loss based messages too, this anime is one that helped me deal with the losses of friends and family. Don't let the loss chain you to the ground, but still take the time to mourn and miss them. There are more messages in there, but if you havent seen gurren lagann on your own, i say go watch it and find them on your own.

Once you know the story, the reason to watch it is gone. Although, this video just made all those memories rush back, getting me all emotional. I had forgotten just how great this anime is. I really should rewatch it someday.
