    Floch's entire speech was a series of wins in that an anime (manga) was able to provide a proper voice to all the redshirts that die off all the time and watch our main cast progress. It gives a lot more reality to what was an (objectively) emotional decision that went against common sense.

      Couldn't disagree more, he said a lot which wasn't true, came across as petty, talked about things as though he was an expert when he was brand new and some other things, I mention it all on the Sins version. @@AnimeWins But he talks about the scene from an outsider's point of view, someone who has no connection to either Erwin or Armin but wants humanity to get past the titans once and for all. Not everyone can have the same thoughts and reactions to everything, and him criticising the group for making a choice based on their feelings and not objectively is something that he has a right to do, as he dedicated his heart no matter how scared he was and ran in that suicide charge. Unlike men and women who were not part of the Survey Corps during the battle for Shiganshina, he has the right to voice his opinions no matter how polarising they are. Also it is shown that Floche's view is actually the more widely understood and accepted opinion, whilst our main characters are all outliers on this. The military sees them as wrong.

  • @yugiohmastermind8
    @yugiohmastermind8 5 лет назад +447

    I have to disagree with what you said about Floch's speech. Both during the serum episode and in the last episode his speeches were both great! They give the perspective of a fodder character. Somebody who isn't special or important in anyway like the entire main cast. He's a voice for all the fodder characters that get slaughtered practically every episode with the viewer not even blinking an eye. Because as Floch says himself, his role/purpose is to be expendable fodder. It's also a good criticism of the Survey Corps ideology, showing the dark side to their dying proud mentality. Also he acts as a great foil to Jean's character, being just like he was at the start of the series. Saying things how it is regardles of whether hes being an asshole or not, bringing up logical points without taking others feelings into consideration which leads to conflict. Just like how Eren and Jean used to clash during training due to their different mindsets. Without characters like Floch who have different mindsets that dont align with our main casts the series would be a lot more dull and less unique. At least that's just my opinion.

    • @yugiohmastermind8
      @yugiohmastermind8 5 лет назад +55

      @@Elliephant_ Oh yeah I totally agree that hes an asshole. It's kinda the point, even though a lot of what he says does have some logic and reason behind it it's the way that he goes about it is the problem. He has no tact whatsoever. He's blunt and neglects to take people's feelings into consideration whether he does it knowingly or that's just who he is naturally. Like I said a lot like how Jean was an insensitive jerk at the start of ths series but started to gain perspective and become a better person after the trauma he experienced in Trost. Floch is like a twisted version of that after his trauma in Shiganshina which instead of leading to positive development like it did with Jean leads to negative development as is shown later on in the series. Which is what makes him a great foil character. But yeah as you were saying you're right he is a complete asshole but I hate the people who just overlook everything that he says and don't acknowledge any of the points he makes, because of the almost subconscious bias that just because hes not a main character or anyone important, his opinion is obviously wrong and doesn't matter.

    I, too, adore this season, but i have to disagree with the thought that Mikasa's disbelief at Eren having 8 years to live is just a sign of her devotion to him. It's actually worse than that. Ya see, Armin has also recently become a titan, giving him ~13 years to live. Mikasa is in such a state of denial BECAUSE at this point, Eren and Armin are the only family she has left. She refuses to believe that she's going to be ALONE in 13 years.

The Warriors were doing this, because they had orders, and they thought that they were right. In season 2, when Eren gets kidnapped by them, and the 104th confronts Bertholdt, he says that all the friendships and all the laughs and everything they have done together was real, but he has no other choice, but to take Eren with him. So first ep of aot is called to u in 2000. From the narration in the start we know that the walls were built 107 years ago. The first ruler of the walls king fritz 145th created the walls to protect humanity.
    When someone gain titan powers they can live only 13 years because of the curse of ymir which is the same number of years between the Royal family succession.
    145 Kings means 145 wielders of the founding titan. 145×13=1885.
    So present time would be 1885+107=1992.
    Eren has 8 years left to live which is 2000 years which shows isayama (the aot mangaka) is a genius who crafted this amazing plot and had it all planned out from the start.

      That is genius

    • @yoursonisold8743
      @yoursonisold8743 5 лет назад +11

      That is making the very unreasonable assumption that all of those kings lived exactly 13 years, which is statistically impossible.
      Let's take some other more reliable number into consideration. Grisha's father said (based on Marley lore) that the Eldians performed 1800 years of ethnic cleansing. Then the Marleyans overthrew them in the great titan war ca. 80 years ago. That means we are around 1880 years at the time Grisha is a kid. Then you add maybe 20 years until he talked to Owl and then 13 years until he gets eaten by Eren. Then we timeskip 5 years to Eren being part of the 104th graduating. Then all of the events up to the return to Shiganshina arc happen in less than a year. So we are at best around 1918 years. Which technologically speaking makes perfect sense with our real world situation. This world is very much like WWI.

    • @realitysmasher6192
      @realitysmasher6192 5 лет назад +2

      @@realitysmasher6192 Your first point... I don't have any idea what you are talking about.
      As for your second point, my issue doesn't lie with them living longer, but rather *shorter* .
      With so much strife happening or maybe even conflict inside the family, it's very likely that some kings were eaten earlier to pass on the titan. Heck, there isn't even a rule that the king has to wield the titan power. Maybe there were kings who werent shifters and their family members were controlling them from the shadows etc.

    How did you not catch them sparing the titan at the end? It’s a complete subversion of Eren’s original goal of killing all of the titans but now the culmination of all of his experiences and memories that he traced back to are effecting his character, Eren wasn’t just displayed with long hair because of the time jump, he was displayed with long hair because it’s very similar to his fathers old hairstyle. Look at the part in Eren’s hair and then look at the part in Grisha’s, there’s a parallel between the two characters that they’re trying to present and that’s why the scene of them sparing the titan is so important. Also Grisha’s titan looks like a combination of the beast titan and Eren’s titan, it foreshadowed the connection between the beast titan (Zeke) and the Attack Titan (Eren) as the Yaeger brothers.

    Find it kinda ironic how you were glad that Bertholdt died/were excited to see Gross getting eaten alive, especially considering you're kind of proving his point with that. Not calling you out btw! I love these vids (though I do think you missed out on giving credit to some absolutely stand-out moments in season 3 like Historia throwing down her father/a lot of the genuinely amazing writing in the Bystander episode)
    But to carry on, Gross's entire point is pretty much targeting those who picked up the show/enjoyed it for its depictions of violence and cruelty. Isayama himself said in an interview that in the manga he had Gross looking directly at the viewer when giving his speech because it's meant to target us, the readers/watchers, which is also what happened in the anime. He may have been scum but it's funny just how right he is in a sense given people were actually cheering when Bertholdt got eaten by Armin. I'd like to add that I think Bert's death was indeed necessary but it's also worth taking into consideration that he only did what he did because of his upbringing, as shown in the Marley flashbacks and reveals.

    • @wordsoflove8787
      @wordsoflove8787 5 лет назад +30

      Also to add, Floch's points WERE entirely valid and I think it's unfair to dismiss everything he said just because he was being a dick about it. Everyone else in the scouts didn't know Armin like the main cast did, so getting a voice from who essentially was a redshirt was not only surprisingly refreshing but it's also entirely valid from his point of view given how big their losses were to bring back Armin, someone they don't even really know compared to the savior of humanity, Erwin. Of course people'd be bitter about it, sure he was an asshole about it and we, the viewers know that the sacrifice was justified, but getting the perspective of the survivors is a very nice touch that most authors wouldn't have added in this kind of situation. It reminds us of how human the world of AoT actually is.

    Absolutely agree and ALSO Levi later speaks about not bringing Erwin back into a world of suffering.
    The main thing driven home is how Erwin finally opened up on just how much the fallen comrades have weighed on him. It was a reveal that all this time he has been suffering as it was his orders that solidified their deaths. Bringing him back would not only force him to keep living under that weight but also the death toll has encompassed nearly all of the scout regiment that was left.
    He was ready to die for what he saw as his sins and did not want to see what he knew his final plan would leave him. So Levi let him go.
    BTW Erwin is by far my favorite character simply for the patriotic feeling of him alone. Attack on Titan is the one series where you can feel patriotic for a country that doesn't even exist and Erwin is the epicenter of all of that.

      kyoujin (巨人) meaning giants or titan
      no (の)is a particle used in many different uses depending on the context. but is meant to act as modifier between to nouns typically.
      since its use as a possession particle makes no sense the other ways of reading can be both, titan of attack AKA: Attack titan. or attack of titan, or attack on titan. and since japanese do not have plural the fact that titan is singular makes sense in japanese either ways but sounds off in English. but both are valid readings in japanese so was likely intentional to sound one way but works as both ways when it is revealed. which just goes to show the genius writing behind it.

      @@DivusMagus I mean, I didn't know all that. But I figured it could mean both. Which I why I said "How must it suck for translators tho. It's not like they made a mistake." Since if you can interpret something in more than one way in Japanese, but not in English, they have to make a choice.

    • @DivusMagus
      @DivusMagus 5 лет назад

      @@waszner yea it does suck cause some of the nuances is lost like the fact that it can also mean advancing titan. very fitting for a titan that constantly pursues freedom. which is somewhat lost when you go to English because we have strict words but in japanese a lot of words when using kanji more represent a collection ideas not just a single word with a single strict definition.

    Floch gave much needed perspective since he's not a main character, barely even a supporting one. He's was the red shirt soldier that should have died but didn't. And he was right, he does get to have a say, as all "fodder" do.

    • @akosbarati2239
      @akosbarati2239 3 года назад

      Here's my problem though: in Oliver Stone's JFK Donald Sutherland played a military liaison in part based on a real person, and basically everything he insinuated was later overshadowed by the fact that he's a Holocaust denier. Only because he's a red shirt it doesn't automatically mean he doesn't or can't have ulterior motives. Which he does. He talks about Erwin needing to survive because Erwin was fabled to be a commander under whose command people don't die, even though in canon we got to see that's not how Erwin saw it.
      Wanting to survive isn't only natural and understandable but only human, yet wanting for somebody to survive so that you magically don't die... let's just say, Floch wouldn't have made far under Erwin's command. A recurring warning about populism since the Middle Ages: always be wary of people who constantly only say what they're against but are always suspiciously silent on what they stand for.

    My thoughts on why Levi choose Armin.
    Kenny to Levi: We human are all alike. We spent our lives drunk on something. Other wise, how would we keep pushing (I’m paraphrasing, of course)
    Ervin: Was drunk on the idea of knowing if other human were on the other side of the wall.
    Armin: Was drunk of dreams and dream have no limits

    Attack on Titan handles ageing characters very well. Long beforr the time skip in s3p2. From season 1 to s3p2 the character outlines have been getting thinner and thinner every arc making the characters look older as time passes. Hell you can even take profile shots of every character from s1 to s3p2 and actually see that they progresively look older and older

    • @FawzanSiddiqui
      @FawzanSiddiqui 5 лет назад

      However, the time that passes between the appearance of the Colossal Titan in the year 850, and the end of season 3 part 1, is only four months (as confirmed by Connie in season 3 episode 12). The difference in outlines is just a design change. Nonetheless, when the characters actually did age significantly, by a year (in season 3 episode 22), that was handled quite well.

And the way we rips into Armin can seem like bs at first, but remember he has no clue who Armin is, all he knows of him is when they trained and he was weak then. But he respected Erwin and then says how he feels. He even said that he’s a coward and that if fodder like him can’t say it how he sees it. Floch deserves more credit

    Floch didn't talk shit. He talked exactly like a helpless person who actually was in the situation that he was in. He is Honest, to himself and to others. After all that he went through, he deserved to speak his mind. Logically it should have been Erwin that was saved. That frustration would lead to him saying what he did, even though most people wouldn't say it to Armins' Face, his character does. So it does make sense, that dialogue would have deserved atleast 2 wins in my opinion. I respect your opinion because i thought the same as you when i first watched the episode but now that i think about it, it makes soo much sense...

This is backed up by Zeke having full control of the Beast Titan. However the whole point of Grisha infiltrating was so he could steal the Founding Titan, so you're right that they couldn't give it Dina.

Unless I've missed something?

      It's honestly isn't the most important thing. If it does get explained it'll be a ways into season 4, which despite what everyone keeps saying, I doubt it'll actually be the final one. The Manga, as crazy and as final battle-y as it feels currently, I honestly think it's impossible for it to end by the end of the year, which is again what everyone keeps saying.

    I think Levy realised at the end there that Erwin had given everything and so much more and how the mountains of dead friends and comrades had been a gigantic torture to him, so he went willingly on that suicide charge to finally join the ranks of those that so blindly and loyally died for him. It was a willing, planned-out death of a weary man. That's ultimately a final decision, even if Erwin would've returned. His mindset would've probably been wracked by survivor's guilt and sadness, potentially making him less effective and giving him a cursed existence.
