I just picked up my 2024 Mazda CX-50 GS-L trim in Canada. Coming from a Honda CR-V and after test driving the latest model, I have to say the CX-50 looks and feels more upscale, with a nice interior and a large center screen (as compared to CR-V's small 7 inch one). The control knob might take a day or two to get used to, but it actually turns out to be a better way of controlling the screen. Plus, it’s more fun to drive. However, it does lack some functionality. There are four areas where Mazda could improve: 1. Space: Despite being 1 inch longer than the CR-V, it offers only 31 cubic feet of cargo volume, which is a whopping 8 CF less than the CR-V. 2. USB Ports placement: The USB ports are located inside the center console storage compartment. With the compartment already being so small, having the ports inside is a poor design choice, as the wires get crimped whenever you put something 3. in or take something out of the console. 3. Phone placement: There’s no convenient place to comfortably place your phone. 4. Trip Fuel Economy Reset: Unlike some other vehicles, Mazda doesn’t offer options to reset the trip fuel economy automatically at every drive, at every fuel-up, or manually. This is a feature I miss from my 2020 Honda CR-V.
Ok, I think I can speak for everyone when I say the CX-50 is an awesome new model but, could use a few changes or additional options. Here’s a short list… 1. Offer the 2.5NA, 2.5T Hybrid (make the 2.5 turbo version a hybrid for more power/fuel efficiency), & I6 (either NA or Turbo). 2. Make the multilink suspension or a form of independent suspension standard. That said, have it tuned stiff like the current one, it’s a thing of beauty. 3. Modify the auto 6 Speed Transmission to an 8 Speed w/ quicker shifts. Or at least shorten the shifts on the 6 Speed. There’s no reason why the CX-5/CX-50 aren’t in the 5 sec range for 0-60mph. 4. Find another spot for the two Bose speakers (on premium trims) that are attached to the area where the door & window meet. They seem like an after thought and are one of the only “flimsy” parts of the interior. Bottom line Mazda, if you were to offer 3 engine options (one being the I6), shortened the shifts, and had an updated suspension….nobody in the segment could f*** with you. Even if you had to raise the cost for said models (hybrid 2.5T & I6 turbo/na), most people would be cool with it. A CX-50 with 300-340 hp & 320-360 torq would kill everything, even with the current suspension.

Dave, hopefully you can address the concerns of a number of reviewers regarding the CX-90 (& CX-70) - smooth out the jerkiness of the drivetrain at low speeds, soften up the seat bottoms, speed up the steering (fewer turns lock-to-lock) and make the center console between driver and front passenger deeper (yes, I know, there's a transmission down there, but, please fix this if at all possible.) Otherwise I'm ready to buy one of the two. Oh wait - please make a bench 2nd-row available in the top trim! This should be a piece of cake, and it's honestly the only thing holding me back since I have a family of 5 and want to put all 3 kids in the 2nd row. Thanks for the update. Great to know the details in the manufacturing process. Now if Mr. Coleman can tell us which hybrid engine will the CX-50 have: the Toyota 2.0 or 2.5?
@@digitaldoc100 I believe Mazda is going to transfer the entire Toyota hybrid system, including ICE, into the CX-50. Just don’t know if it is the 2.0 or 2.5
I have a cx-90 preferred plus. It is great but as noted by many other journalists, the change between the electric motor and the 8 speed gears in the transmission is not always smooth especially in slow speed traffic. The transmission can be a little jerky. Also the steering is super slow. It is super precise but I would prefer a slight faster steering ration. It is a little tough to maneuver in parking lots and while parallel parking. Also the suspension can be a little too firm at times. Overall I really love the car and got a great deal on it. All cars have imperfections and these are just small ones I have the the cx-90. Great job overall with a new platform, new transmission and a brand new engine. Not too many bugs for a first gen product.
Hello Dave! 2023 CX50 owner because I love you so much. Love everything about the car too except 1 thing, the front seats are way too firm. Please make them softer in the later years so I can swap them in to my 2023. For the updated brake bite feel, is it possible to get that tweak upgraded in the 2023 model years through software/ecu patch?
Love Dave's details and thanks. Since you are asking, existing MX-5's really need an infotainment update to allow the touchscreen to work in motion, like new Mazdas.
Loving my CX-5, looking forward to a Hybrid CX-50! Please do 18-19 wheels instead of 20, feels better, more affordable and more all terrain tires available, blackout the silver fake bottom skid plates (or make them real skid plates), and get rid of the thong stitch up the middle of the seats!
I saw that but didn't say anything bc others had left multiple comments. I saw you had corrected this in the comments as well. This video is more detailed about how Huntsville runs though so glad you did this video!
We have a 2.5 turbo premium cx50 and I have thought about switching the wheels down in size to 19 or 18 and increasing the aspect ratio do I need to do anything else so the speedometers stays accurate
Since Dave Coleman asked, as an ND Miata owner, I would like to see the suspension on the Club edition be more punishing… err have less roll. Changing that front sway bar is not fun. The Sport and GT suspensions are perfect as they are.
To Dave RE CX50 improvements: the biggest drawback for me (and the reason we purchased a 2024 cx5 Turbo P) is that the driver's inside door handle interferes with my left knee which seems to travel wider and rest on a more comfortable soft surface in the cx5...prefer the ergonomics/CX5 door design.
Just pulled the trigger on a CX-50 Premium. I love the ride. Next time you see David, I found a software bug. You can add a station to your favorites multiple times. I accidentally added the same station four times. Ideally you should only be allowed to do once. Also thought holding fav button would unfavorite it but deleting is in another screen. Holding the fav button to unfavorite a station seems intuitive to me considering you use it to add.
In March 2024, I drove my 24' CX-50 from Northern California to Georgis, all together 14 states and 6800+ miles. On the road got 31 mpg the ride quality was awesome. Keep doing what you are doing! I have owned several Mazdas CX 5 2 And many years ago, Mazda truck B2000
Two things to ask Mr. COLEMAN when he comes back. PLEASE ask if the wireless charger can be moved to the front vice under the arm rest because my Samsung s24 Ultra does not fit. 2nd. Can you ask if the 1st year cx50 will be eligible for the updated dampening, steering, and brake tuning?? Thank you!!
Why are fog lamps disappearing on almost all Mazda line up??? There are still some buyers like me that aesthetically prefers fog lamps. Would there be any chance that fog lamps will be back on some of the models or would there be any option for it???
For Mr. Coleman, a greater range of height adjustment in the Miata seats. This would improve the car for both tall and short drivers, without having to resort to aftermarket solutions.
Can remote start settings via the app be fixed? No matter what I do, my heated seats are freezing cold and never turned on with the remote start as well as rear window defroster. This is really ruins my enjoyment of Cx-50 every day. Let us choose the startup settings for remote starts manually or via saved profiles….

I drove in really fun road last saturday (Vancouver to Whistler) with a lot of curves 90km/h and I felt BODY ROLL a lot.. Love these videos and the insights into my favorite car brand. CX5 and CX9 in the driveway and another on the way in the spring. Not sure what yet, but probably a 3 or 30 as my daily driver just to get as much car as possible for the $. Features over size in the car I’ll be alone in 95% of the time. A 50 is intriguing now that I hear the details on off road suspension tuning considering the roads here are basically like driving off road anyway.
CX50 needs a seatbelt chime full mute option, it's really annoying and loud before even being in drive, I had to disconnect the seatbelt detection switch to regain sanity (I always buckle up but not before starting the car)
@@doloresvancartier4249 I feel like those are a safety risk, either cheap and break or cause a poor fit, both could add risk in case of a serious accident. When you unplug the seatbelt switch it just thinks you are buckled up which you would be and this doesn't effect the seatbelt function.
How about the people that have an early production cx50, can we get those updates. I don't like the way my suspension feels and also I'm having issues now with my wireless charger?
Always best to wait at least 1 model year (2 really) before buying an all-new production vehicle, unless you are willing to deal with more problems/issues, bugs and/or vehicle quirks. So, 2024 or 2025 would be the optimal model year for purchase of a CX-50 more than likely. That strategy worked for me on my 2022 CX-30 CE & it has been 100% problem/issue free going on 2 years now. When I purchased the new 2020 TNGA-platform Corolla SE sedan in its first model year it turned out to be a problematic mess & I ended up ditching it after only 2 years & 10K miles. Love the color of the CX-50 in this video btw.
What problems did you have wih your cx30? Mine is a 2023, and while there are some things I think could be better (sunvisors, center console lid, too slow of steering, doesn't always lock when I walk away), the only real problems I have are rattles that come and go, and poor throttle response from a stop.
@@mitchellsteindler I haven't had any issues with my 2022 CX-30 Carbon Edition whatsoever, but then I have all the tech features turned off & only really use the backup camera & blind spot monitoring out of everything. I also have no desire to connect my smartphone to my vehicle or use it while driving in any way. Surprisingly, I don't have any rattles in the cabin even after almost 2 years now, & it's a pretty quiet/insulated place for this price/size segment. The 6-spd automatic behaves nicely in both normal/sport mode & the non-turbo 186hp 2.5L engine is plenty powerful enough IMO. I'm glad that my 2022 doesn't have cylinder-deactivation engine tech though - which is something that the 2023+ CX-30 now has. 🙁
@dystopia-usa I totally misread your comment 🤣. I thought you said it has been 100% problems lol. I also have the carbon edition, and yeah the cylinder deactivation is not good. It vibrates really bad.
I was wondering if Mazda will improve the cx70 base on the lesson learned from the cx90. It would be nice if they make the cx70 more off-road capable. Thanks Mazda !
Hey Moto man, keep up the great work on these videos, dear Mr. Coleman I am currently a Mazda CX 502.5 S turbo premium plus model. My wife likes this car very very much. She is the driver since I no longer can see to drive, but I am interested in upgrading to the hybrid variance of this car when it launches, but to my dismay, I cannot get your hybrid equipped exactly as my 2.5 turbo premium This is a strong and very big mess on the part of Mazda. I understand that you can get this car in Canada so what I’d like to know is how can I get one equipped the exact same way and Mr. Coleman please figure out how to get the exact equipment on my hybrid as I would get on the turbo here in the United States otherwise I’m simply gonna have to go by a Toyota or a Honda anxiously awaiting your reply or call back a CX 50 owner
Love this video! Can we get ambient lighting and more interior color options on the CX50? The lack of interior one of the few things holding me back from pulling the trigger
How about they improve the seats. Mazda seats are the most uncomfortable seats in the automotive industry. There hard as concrete . These are not corvettes. They have 184 hp . Suv seats are supposed to be comfortable. Look at all the forums. Lots of seat complaints. Just copy the nissan or hyundai seats. Even honda. So much more comfortable
My friend comfortable seats ended in the late 90's early 2000's. If they would do a mid trim that had plush seats, subaru like struts, and good sound deadening it would be a wonderful option.
Any chance you guys can improve engine fuel economy? My biggest complaint is only averaging 20-24 MPG, which is actually quite low for my expectations. Thanks!
I love my cx50 but the ride is on the harsher side and you do feel the road. Noise in the cabin is also quite high. Overall though, a nice ride! I just wished it was more quiet ride
I have a few suggestions for the CX 5 model. Please let them know that some customers would like to see a full upgrade on the CX 5 and when the hybrid model is introduced make sure to improve the gas mileage and give customers the option for a panoramic sun roof to be included in CX 5 models and for the CX 5 turbo signature give the option for different type of seat color and material and for extra features in the top trim have the second row to include heat and cool seat seats. Let Customers have the option to make the second row to be Captain Chairs with an entertainment console with a wireless charger port and other standard features. It only makes sense when the hybrid model arrives these little details will be popping around in Customers thoughts. Make it happen. Tell the engineers in Japan that the CX 5 needs a major overhaul and new features. I personally would like to see a Legacy Turbo Signature CX 5 that would let the Customer customize or pick three different type of materials for the seats and have the option of a panoramic sun roof and have the option to ditch the second row bend seats for two Captain chairs with heat and ventilated seats and have a removable entertainment console that included a wireless charger port. Have a Turbo Hybrid engine in the Legacy Turbo Signature.
Why Mazda put Stearing Wheell Heating only in options?? I don,t need Sun Roof Window, I don,t need a leather Trim, but, but, I need this damit SW Heating!
I came from a oem+ tuned MK7 GTI to my 23 CX50 TPP so i dont have any complaints on the steering but more communication would be welcomed. The suspension does get a bit rough on dirt roads or some of really bad sections of road here in Michigan, to me it feels like im driving on heavy aftermarket wheels (the 20's are pretty heavy) so do plan to change to lighter flowformed 18/19's. But they need to offer the updated dampers as a replacement retrofit from the dealers but maybe soon we will have even better options like Bilstein or Koni..
The Mazda chassis nerds who are constantly improving the product is why I bought a 2024 CX-5. I hope the Mazda3 gets similar updates to what the CX-50 got because I promise you it’s needed. My 2022 was my least favorite driving Mazda3 I owned.
I would like to see the CX-60 be improved in terms of ride, as here in nothern Europe it gets criticism for its really stiff suspension and a bit heavy steering feel. If atleast those two can be improved that would be awesome. It's such a great looking car!
The biggest problems are the suspension, transmission and mostly software issues in Europe. The weight of the steering is really just personal preference. I personally dislike ultra light weighted steering like it is in most French cars and Toyota products. It just feels numb, and there's not enough steering feedback
So, grey area in this conversation... listening to him speak about the upgrades...if I bought a 2024 CX-50 PPT in late November, (a month ago) is the updated dampers and steering changes updated or am I somehow owning an essentially leftover 2023? If so, can I bring it in to the dealership to be updated for what the 2024 model year should have included? The announcement for these updated officially released by Mazda in July, 2023 for new 2024 models. Can anyone please help me with this? Thanks in advance!!😮
I took delivery of my cx-50 in early December. It was picked up right after it was delivered to dealership. I wonder if my unit is updated one lol. I did found the steering wheel felt lighter compared to 2023 i test drived.
Mazda is going up the ladder in both sales and reliability and build some of the best vehicles on the market. They are definitely better in my opinion then Japanese competitors Nissan and Subaru and slot in between Toyota and Honda and I'd argue if they had the same capital they could equal or surpass Toyota. The CX-90 and 70 are cutting edge and hopefully the reliability matches their track record so far. The Mazda 6 if offered with the inline 6 rwd bias awd and a Mazdaspeed variant could be what alot of enthusiasts are seeking. Bring back the B series truck with a similar drivetrain as the CX-90 and CX-70. We'll see where Mazda goes from here but it's exciting.
Miata with even stiffer suspension on the club trim. Wheel track width needs to be increased for both handling and looks and to fit a wider tire. Stiffer intial feel on brake pedal. Aerodynamic underbody.
CX-50 has a somewhat long and weak brake. This has been a recurring trend since the Mazda 6 2017 I owned. Is there a reason for this? I enjoy it but it could be a bit tighter since the steering provides enough feedback.
These videos always remind me I need to buy a new Mazda to help keep Mr Coleman employed. 👍

I bought mine july 2022. Can i get the software updates?
2024 will have many changes for the MX-5.
Handled with class!
Interesting, for me the center console, which I like to rest my arm on when I’m driving. It’s too short on the CX5. it fits much better on the CX 50.
Knee comfort is surprisingly underrated in car interior design and imo one of a true distinction of luxury.
Can these suspension tweaks be applied to the cx-90 and upcoming cx-70 which have been criticized for their firm ride by some journalists?
From experience the suspension breaks in very nicely within 10k miles.
Thank you!! And very timely for me, too.
In March 2024, I drove my 24' CX-50 from Northern California to Georgis, all together 14 states and 6800+ miles.
On the road got 31 mpg
the ride quality was awesome.
Keep doing what you are doing!
I have owned several Mazdas
CX 5
2
And many years ago, Mazda truck B2000
Must have been a non-turbo model. My 2024 turbo only gets 22mpg... not very good at all
Damn. Loved the steering the way it was.
Thank you!!
Loved this “impromptu take” 🔥
Will there be a Signature trim for the CX-50 with colour keyed fenders and a chrome grill like the CX-5
Why are fog lamps disappearing on almost all Mazda line up??? There are still some buyers like me that aesthetically prefers fog lamps. Would there be any chance that fog lamps will be back on some of the models or would there be any option for it???
Fantastic episode. Made seriously good lemonade out of a lemon type deal. Much appreciated.
Does Mazda turn down the paint timer? Only complaint... Mazda paint is thin
I own a 2020 Mazda6 GTR and all I want is another one. So please please please build an I6 turbo rwd Mazda6! Mr. Coleman, please make it happen.
For Mr. Coleman, a greater range of height adjustment in the Miata seats. This would improve the car for both tall and short drivers, without having to resort to aftermarket solutions.
No wonder everyone loved the Steering when this dropped, they based it on the Lotus Elise!
And the Mazda3 rear taillights (on the turbo models) are two halos alike a Lotus
So does that mean we’re getting a separate Dave Coleman CX-90 PHEV episode? Can’t wait.
Absolutely! January . . .
Love the look of the CX-50 except for the cheap plastic moldings around the wheel wells.
Very interesting explanation!!
Could a '23 model be updated with '24 dampers to make the ride more complaint?
Can remote start settings via the app be fixed? No matter what I do, my heated seats are freezing cold and never turned on with the remote start as well as rear window defroster. This is really ruins my enjoyment of Cx-50 every day. Let us choose the startup settings for remote starts manually or via saved profiles….
I think what all this shows is that CX-50 owners really like their CX-50s! Could be indicative of a wonderful future for the CX-50!
Tweak: also a software update for the backup camera parking lines to move with the direction of the steering wheel would be lovely.
I bought a CX50 Ingot blue GT Turbo 20inch Wheels (Canada) Owner.. Delivery date was two weeks ago.. I drove in really fun road last saturday (Vancouver to Whistler) with a lot of curves 90km/h and I felt BODY ROLL a lot.. I've checked the tire PRESSURE.. for any reason tire pressure show 45 PSI for ALL TIRES and RECOMMENDED is 35 PSI.. After I deflated my tires I noticed was much better !!!
A simple seat belt extender would have done the trick…
@@doloresvancartier4249 I feel like those are a safety risk, either cheap and break or cause a poor fit, both could add risk in case of a serious accident. When you unplug the seatbelt switch it just thinks you are buckled up which you would be and this doesn't effect the seatbelt function.
How about the people that have an early production cx50, can we get those updates. I don't like the way my suspension feels and also I'm having issues now with my wireless charger?
Mine is a 2024, I got it in October
Can these 2024 model year updates be applied to the 2023 model year vehicles. Doesn’t seem like hardware changes. Mostly software tweaks
Dampers = hardware
No issues with my ‘23 CX50 for the past year!
I was wondering if Mazda will improve the cx70 base on the lesson learned from the cx90. It would be nice if they make the cx70 more off-road capable. Thanks Mazda !
Dave Coleman- HELP! Any Tweaks done to fix the Power Train shifting in the CX 90 Hybrid 2024? I am hearing it is clunky and slow to shift?
For gods sake improve the seat comfort and armrest ergonomics across the entire Mazda line.
How about an independent rear suspension for the CX50
Cant we ask the showroom to change the 20 inch wheels to 18 inch or 17 inch ? I live in waterloo, Ontario. if thats possible i will go with GT variant
I really think a lot of that Noise comes from the tires ..
So does this mean vehicles which are on ground now are more bumpy? Cuz if that's the case I need to cancel my order
Agree on interior colors . . . Make it happen, Coleman!
Throttle needs some adjustment. Can be very jerky. Especially on the freeway at cruising speed.
Why Mazda put Stearing Wheell Heating only in options?? I don,t need Sun Roof Window, I don,t need a leather Trim, but, but, I need this damit SW Heating!
Anything associated with the Toyota line is good for your company.
Dave - put the straight 6 in the Miata. If you want add a turbo, feel free! 👌
when is the cx50 hybrid coming out?
He said the updates are in the November builds. If you have Nov 23 on the sticker on the driver's door jamb, you should have the updates.
I took delivery of my cx-50 in early December. It was picked up right after it was delivered to dealership. I wonder if my unit is updated one lol. I did found the steering wheel felt lighter compared to 2023 i test drived.
How can one tell if updated via VIN? I am unable to decode the manufactured month/year.
you will find the production month etc inside the door jam on the sticker that gives car color, tire info etc....
The Legend
When are we getting the cx50 hybrid!!!
We'll see where Mazda goes from here but it's exciting.
when is the CX-50 hybrid coming out?!
can we get a supercharger kit for older gen mazda 3 s ?
Miata with even stiffer suspension on the club trim. Wheel track width needs to be increased for both handling and looks and to fit a wider tire. Stiffer intial feel on brake pedal. Aerodynamic underbody.
I love the look of the mazda cx50 but I think mazda should change the rear suspension to a independent rear suspension
I now have a new kickstand stance……have never seen this before.❤
CX-50 has a somewhat long and weak brake. This has been a recurring trend since the Mazda 6 2017 I owned. Is there a reason for this? I enjoy it but it could be a bit tighter since the steering provides enough feedback.
