Thank you MotoManTV for inviting this gentlemen to babble his techno to us all. I much prefer engineering talk to sales talk. This explanation actually makes me appreciate this car more (whereas sales talk makes me shudder). Hope to see more of these in the future and thanks for the great content.
From an options standpoint, allow me to select a cold weather package that will add heated front seats and steering wheel to even the base trims. Heat the whole steering wheel. And for us who live in the south, cooler seats as an option on more trims would be really cool. I’d pay $1500 as a stand alone option for them. From a platform standpoint, if I’m being greedy, adaptive dampers. The only real change is that the car needs to get off the line with more urgency. With the large displacement and electric motor assist I was expecting to be able to get the jump on all the other crossovers out there. Another RUclips channel did a comparison and this and the Hyundai where equal with each other until 35ish mph. If I’m needing to get the jump on a car to merge over right I’d expect my Turbo S 369hp to blow the 290hp NA outta the water. But honestly these all are nitpicks and it’s a wonderful platform and car. It would of course be a wish to have this in a sedan. Maybe share development costs with Lexus for their next generation IS?
I would love to see a Mazda 6 return especially after seeing that beautiful concept a few years back. I miss my 2018 Mazda 6 Grand Touring but the lease was up. The CX-90 is a gorgeous crossover. The outgoing CX-9 was still a good looking one.

I smashed the LIKE button and now I'm going to tell you guys what you should do with this platform: 1. Mazda6 - RWD sedan based on the CX70 chassis 2. Mazda MX60 - Mazda6-based All-Terrain Wagon like Subaru Outback/Volvo V90 Cross Country 3. Mazda MX6 - RWD Coupe based on the CX60 chassis 4. Toyota Supra - A proper Japanese supercar with a Japanese inline 6 (not some German knockoff) 5. Toyota Mark Y - RWD sedan based on the CX90 chassis 6. Lexus SC330 - RWD Coupe based on the CX60 chassis 7. Lexus IS330 - RWD Sedan based on the CX70 chassis 8. Lexus IX330 - Lexus IS330-based All-Terrain 4-door Shooting Brake ...and NO...Daihatsu, Subaru, and Suzuki don't get anything! You asked for it...
Dave, you KNOW there's a bunch of us out here that would LOVE a 5-door hatchback with that drivetrain attached to a SIX-SPEED MANUAL!!!! Pretty please. I really miss my '04 6S V6 manual hatchback.
Mazda please make a Mazda 6 sedan and maybe a coupe with the new RWD platform and the inline 6. Also, the next-gen Mazda 3 with an RWD platform and an inline 6 would be really nice. That would be a big slap to BMW for making the 1 Series FWD.

CX5 owner, and hope to see some of this tech, at least the transmission go into a CX5 update (no, the CX50 is not what I want styling wise, and also got too wide to fit in my garage. Great job on the CX90!
Test drive the CX-50 and slide it into your garage. I bet it will fit right. Used to drive a relative’s CX-5 in our tight basement parking space and I thought buying the CX-50 for my own will be an issue as far as space is concerned. Then I test drove the CX-50 towards said parking basement. It went smoothly--what with all that 360-degree camera, tilting rearside mirrors, wider field of view, etc. Plus the CX-50 is much better than the CX-5 in many ways. Thanks.
Very interesting and well done description of the CX 90 engineering. Mr. Coleman did an amazing narration on the development history of the Miata a while back thats well worth listening to.
CX70 NEEDS REAL EXHAUST TIPS!!! Please offer a sport version !! Maybe a brake upgrade with that performance exhaust to let the 6 sing. PLEASE! its my next car and currently have the cx50. This cx90 is beautiful 👍 Rad breakdown of the technology used 👍
Give us Mazda 6 (MX-60), Sportback (with practical hatch like Kia stinger) with sedan looks, inline 6, capable of 35+ mpg, but when I press that sport button I want it to go zoom zoom (5 seconds) 😮. And then have another trim with 2.5l plug-in hibrid that can give us 40-50 miles on electric only 😀....

maybe like 5 shades of brown on that diesel wagon... from deep, metallic artisan dark chocolate to solid gloss light tiramisu. And don't forget the fluorescent beige!
Mazda keeps hitting it out of the park, thanks to guys like Dave. I’ve owned 6 Miatas since 2001, 2 Mazda6s, a CX-9 and 2 CX-5s. My current ‘21 MX-5 RF Club BBR and our ‘22 CX-5 Signature are amazing (and affordable) vehicles. Thank you Dave and Mazda! You have convinced this prior Lexus, Acura and Infiniti owner that there is one car company that still listens to the customer.
@@gerryfishman7823 ….. truth be told I have an addiction to buying vehicles. I’m 71 years old and bought my first car at 17. Since then I have purchased 76 vehicles. We have always had 3-4 vehicles and I tend to trade one of them every year or 2. My comment about Mazda’s reliability comes not from personal experience, although I’ve never had a problem with any Mazda I have owned. JD Power and even the reviews by owners ranks Mazda near the top. The Lexus I’ve owned were an ‘05 ES350 and a ‘13 GS350 F Sport. Both were great cars and I’m sure they are still satisfying to their current owners. Mazda is giving the customers exactly what they want, a feeling of being in something special without the premium price….imo that is a recipe for success.
Priority #1: if you're doing a 40:60 rear seat split, make the 60% split fold on the PASSENGER SIDE. Get rid of the detuned euro engine. Make the MX-60 or CX-70 with a similar shape to the Polestar 3: A wagon/hatch with a roomy 2nd row for adults that folds down with an open passthrough to be able to fit a twin size bed or two large bikes inside. I have a Mazda 6 and would want to upgrade to a similar car with a little more trunk height (or hatch) and the I6/RWD platform.
I have owned two Mazda's (2004 Mazda 3; 2010 Mazda CX-9), and I WANT A NEW ONE SOO BADLY!!! This thing is a Beaut, and they drive better than the junk we have now. Thanks for keeping quality and reliability with your build's Dave!!
Loved the presentation - as seniors, we prefer an easy entry vehicle that we can step-in and step out. Although perhaps a subtle difference from the CX90 , a slightly lifted two row wagon or Sportback (like the 1970 barracuda) would be able to take advantage of the platform while perhaps also being slightly shorter and easier to park...we have a deposit on the cx90 as is.
best xplanation video yet! My 6th Mazda (06 mazdaspeed6) is so good, but my left knee isnt anymore. put the I-6 in a Sedan w/ auto trans, or a SUV sized near the CX-7 please.
very informative video on a gorgeous vehicle, probably the best looking SUV out there. I do have concerns about the new powertrain, especially when i hear some sort of whine during hard acceleration. you should take this new platform/powertrain and derive a 6 sedan. with the proportions of this platform, styled right, a rwd 6 would look and drive like a sporty luxury sedan!
I would love to see something like what the Kia Stinger was, something driver focused with a hatch to give it that practicality a sedan can’t offer but with an edge that a crossover can’t offer either. I currently have a 2014 Mazda 3 GTS Hatch that I won’t give up even with 175,000 miles because its fully loaded and reliable and fuel efficient. I’ve added some Blitstein shocks all around and some awesome continental tires that have taken it to another level of enjoyment. As far as a daily driver its hard to beat but I tempted to add the CX-50 to the family if the CX-70 disappoints me visually though I doubt it will. Dave you are awesome I always love these videos featuring you. Mazda keep making cars for people who love to drive and who embraces the car as art approach to design. ❤
I test drove both 2023 turbocharged CX-5 and CX-50 . The CX-50 driving experience-coming from a 2019 Mazda3 NA owner-was like driving the Mazda3 on steroids. I love my CX-50 GT Turbo 🇨🇦 (Turbo Premium Plus 🇺🇸) and so satisfied with its performance. Having said that, I want my cake and eat it too: the CX-70 with the I-6 Turbo on a mild hybrid deserves some attention. 😊
Dave if you ever read this you should bring back the mazda 6! Also consider adding seats with 14 way adjustabilty and adaptive dampers. That would demolish the competition by far. And maybe figure out for the high output engines a launch control.
Not crazy about the rumour that the CX70 is going to be a five seat CX90, with no change in size. Certain salesman may be saying this to get people to fold and not wait for the CX70.
I'm trying to hold off until the CX70 is introduced since its size should be more suitable for my needs, hope it's available by October with similar styling to the CX90.
I believe the rumor is overall exterior length might be the same but the rear will be much different and less bulbous since it doesn't need to accommodate the head room. Front & Rear leg room might be amazing with a huge trunk.
I like the suv. But without a 2nd row bench option on the top trim levels, we can not consider this suv as an option for our next purchase. Maybe that’s something Mazda can offer in the future.
Wouldn't mind more variety with paint. Green or another blue option. I've seen a neat deep metallic purple or really anything bright like a yellow. Even if just in the Miata. 8 options of grayscale and beige is a bit much considering there's sometimes 2 reds and maybe one of 2 blues in limited trim options as the alternative. That anniversary orange was fun. +1 to all of the mazda6 comments. If it debuts before the year is out, handles tight enough, and offers even a 1/8 inch more rear passenger space over my Mazda3 HB, then I'd probably trade in. And I love my 3 turbo. Otherwise I'm going in on a Miata before the next gen.
I hope the CX-70 will have a performance oriented trim with a more aggressive transmission tune, more boost out of the inline 6 and black out all of the grille trim and badges. This is important Dave!
Yes! Beautiful car. Excited to test drive one though I’m not in the market for it. CX-70 should be super interesting especially if it can tow a small family camper. And yeah Mazda 6! Also, come on Miata 😂
Imagine a sedan with this powertrain and platform...If it does happen, I'm putting a deposit down the minute they bring that out! Until then, I'm still more than happy with the 2018 Mazda6 turbo
Thank you for this video, really makes complicated functions expressed in a way that normal people can understand.. thank you again and Mazda is doing good with this model.
I got to test drive a CX-90 recently. It was really nice! Only dealbreaker was that there wasn’t enough cargo room behind the third row once I added my grandma’s walker. I’m almost tempted to trade in my Kia Sportage PHEV for it.
Folding the third row doesn't help since the whole point is that I wanted three rows. Maybe I'll trade in my Kia for a Sienna XSE then get a CX-90 used one day.
Walkers take up so much more space than people think, especially if you get the fancy ones with a built in seat. I could just not bring it, but I won't ignore the needs of my grandmother. BTW, I love my Kia Sportage PHEV, the tech is leagues better than all of the other car brands.
@@MistahWorldwide Not sure what Tech you are talking about , but regardless enjoy your walker in a Kia 😉

I always enjoy these videos with Mr. Coleman! I am living in Thailand and we are driving Mazda cars since 2008. Our current car is a CX-8. SO I am waiting for the CX-80. I very like that Mazda finally brings PHEV technology to its line up. Personally I would prefer more electric range (as the competition). My dream large PHEV from Mazda would be something like the MX-30 R-EV which drives only with electric motors, has a decent electric range and a range extender for longer trips.
Inline 6 sedan should be first thing for Mazda after Cx70. Contrary to reports or facts, sedans are still popular. Look at Camry and Accord and Nissan. Second is luxury segment of Germans. People still buy or lease those Germans sedans in huge numbers. A true Rwd sedan from Mazda would be biggest thing since they Rotary engine. It would be a massive success potentially stealing sales from Camry, Accord, Nissan and Germans. After this Rx9 sports car. The first inline 6 sports car from Japan. That alone will be monumental. Demand will be crazy.
Thanks, for the video and detailed description. Design wise, IMO if you lengthened and squared off the rear roof and male hatch design more vertical, it would improve the storage and space behind the 3rd. row seats and be more competitive with some of the other 3rd. row SUV's. Other than that it's an Awesome vehicle!
I have no need for a vehicle like this but I think Mazda did a great job. Soemthing 3 series/X3 size with this engine would be awesome. Always enjoy the videos with Dave.
I would always go for standard tires over low profile. As I live in a hot climate, I would like AC to run off electric on hybrids, and have remote activation. Cars in the summer here get so hot in the open sun that parking for a 45 minute lunch heats up the car such that the AC is nullified on the whole trip back, only starting to cool the cabin as you park on your return. I'm interested in the CX-70, and I'm wondering what exactly it gains when you remove the 3rd row. More room for the 2nd row? More room for hybrid battery? Reclining seats?
Put the engine and drivetrain in a saloon and a wagon with the tan interior and you would definitely have me buy either. I really would like to see it in a wagon for 45-50k.
@@curiosityredpill7030 I would pay 45-50k for a new Mazda 6 with the RWD platform and the 340hp inline 6. Acura TLX with similar hp is almost 10k more, and it's a FWD-biased AWD.
This is the type of car-related video that I personally enjoy the most. Thank you Mr. Coleman, and Moto-Man! By the way, did he say “BROWN MANUAL DIESEL WAGON” with inline 6? I don't understand most of this stuff but I'm glad Dave (and Mazda) does ! Just shows a small bit of the philosophy of Mazda and the lengths that they go to to give us the awesome driving vehicles that they do. Where do I sign up for the new diesel wagon 😂
Huge Mazda fan. Just bought the CX-90 in May in the same color "Artisan Red" in the video and I absolutely love this machine. BEAST. Aesthetically, I have never received so many compliments. Well done Mazda and looking forward to what the CX-70 will have to offer.
Definitely want a big saloon..new Mazda6 or even Mazda9
Funny you mention the wagon. If you can cram this drivetrain (with a manual gearbox) into a Mazda 6 AND bring back the wagon body I will be your first order in Canada.
Glad to see Coleman back!!
Manual Mazda 6!!!!! And yes as a wagon!!! And yes with the S engine. But seriously I will buy that.
I am loving this. Would love this in a sedan. Maybe a mazda speed 6
Deep coffee metallic..... Would love to see this engine in a car sized between the Mazda3 and Mazda6 would love a wagon but would settle for a sportback
Dave Coleman is an absolute legend; Mazda & Coleman together are unstoppable right now.
David you are very honest open guy, i like your mentality and the way of thinking i know you are very busy, but please show up every time and speak about mazda lineup features and technology.
DAVE!!!!! Oh man, I was thinking about Monkey Power the other day! Heading out to look at the CX-70 this weekend.
I smashed the LIKE button and now I'm going to tell you guys what you should do with this platform:
1. Mazda6 - RWD sedan based on the CX70 chassis
2. Mazda MX60 - Mazda6-based All-Terrain Wagon like Subaru Outback/Volvo V90 Cross Country
3. Mazda MX6 - RWD Coupe based on the CX60 chassis
4. Toyota Supra - A proper Japanese supercar with a Japanese inline 6 (not some German knockoff)
5. Toyota Mark Y - RWD sedan based on the CX90 chassis
6. Lexus SC330 - RWD Coupe based on the CX60 chassis
7. Lexus IS330 - RWD Sedan based on the CX70 chassis
8. Lexus IX330 - Lexus IS330-based All-Terrain 4-door Shooting Brake
...and NO...Daihatsu, Subaru, and Suzuki don't get anything!
You asked for it...
Can we have a sedan/coupe with this engine and RWD? And one that doesn't weigh 4000lbs
Please!!!!
This is an episode worth saving. Dave is awesome and knows his stuff!
Our pleasure!
It's always such a pleasure to hear from Dave. What a pro.
We bought a Artisan Red Turbo S Premium Plus less than 2 weeks ago. Would love to hear more from Dave Coleman to learn about our new car.
How do you like it so far?
@@MikeATL- Thanks for the feedback , Mike. I hope the issues you’re experiencing get resolved quickly. I haven’t found any owner videos on YT, so I’m looking forward to watching yours.
I like to see a 400 hp station wagon based on this platform- I would buy one, as opposed to to S6 Wagon
Put it in a 6 estate obviously. With that tan interior. An audi allroad type version would be great too but I appreciate that is a bit too niche probably
Thanks.
Guest host showing up MotoMan. Love to see that drivetrain in a Mazda 6, something to compete with the C300 mild hybrid.
Enjoyed this one because I sat back and let Coleman do all the work:)
You guys should make a wagon mazda6 with this platform. Specifically brown
Can't wait for CX70.
Very interesting and well done description of the CX 90 engineering. Mr. Coleman did an amazing narration on the development history of the Miata a while back thats well worth listening to.
I Absolutely Love This Vehicle, I Wish You could Make a Full Hybrid AWD Vehicle. Everyone Will Want One IF You/Mazda Keep the Same PowerTrain!
Eliminating the torque converter is genius!
More on that here: ruclips.net/video/5Eg1qys_c8o/видео.html
CX70 NEEDS REAL EXHAUST TIPS!!! Please offer a sport version !! Maybe a brake upgrade with that performance exhaust to let the 6 sing.
PLEASE! its my next car and currently have the cx50.
This cx90 is beautiful 👍
Rad breakdown of the technology used 👍
Great, great video!!! I'm dying to see the CX 70 with the CX 90 being so good!!
This video shows just how much the engineers at Mazda prioritized driving dynamics over anything else.
MX-6 Coupe and a 929 with the new 3.3 Turbo
B2500 compact truck and B3300 midsize truck with an ultra rugged off-road versions. You guys need to make trucks again!
maybe like 5 shades of brown on that diesel wagon... from deep, metallic artisan dark chocolate to solid gloss light tiramisu.
Hows the reliability of Mazda, just seems abnormal to own 11 cars in 20 years. Used to being a lexus owner with 2 cars in the past 20 years
@@gerryfishman7823 ….. truth be told I have an addiction to buying vehicles.
You know what to do with the platform!! Make a Mazda 6!!!
What a fantastic walk-thru the engineering of the CX90.. great vid! CX50 next?
Thanks for all that, Dave. Enjoyed the engineering stuff and can't wait to drive one...into my garage 😁
Dave is the man, car guy down to his soul 👍👍👍
Great video! I’d love to hear him talk about the plug in hybrid CX-90 please :)
Mazda 6 with this inline 6 pleaseeeee
Dave Coleman!!! 🎉❤
Need this engine in an AWD performance oriented "6" sedan
Dave Coleman make a mazda vision coupe and put that engine in that car
very informative video on a gorgeous vehicle, probably the best looking SUV out there. I do have concerns about the new powertrain, especially when i hear some sort of whine during hard acceleration. you should take this new platform/powertrain and derive a 6 sedan. with the proportions of this platform, styled right, a rwd 6 would look and drive like a sporty luxury sedan!
Excellent info, and brilliant explanation. Been a fan of Dave's for many years since my days as a subscriber to Sport Compact Car magazine!
Rebirth the Mazda6 with this platform Dave!!!!!!!
You hit nail on head. If I was salesman I would say same thing lol.
Take a look at the European CX-60. That's how CX-70 will look like. Maybe slightly wider and longer.
Please build a Sedan and coupe with this platform!
Please bring this in the wagon form to the US market.
Love this cx90 !! Hopefully you’ll have one that can go to folks cottage/camp in the future with a bit more ground clearance
The 6 is dead.
Dave you had me at putting the inline 6 in the Miata !
Can you tell us how long the Cx-70 will be and when it will be announced, pretty please?
Good technical presentation Dave!
Will the new CX70 be shorter than the CX90?
Imagine a sedan with this powertrain and platform...If it does happen, I'm putting a deposit down the minute they bring that out! Until then, I'm still more than happy with the 2018 Mazda6 turbo
Mazda 6 with the inline 6. That's my next car!
Thank you for this video, really makes complicated functions expressed in a way that normal people can understand.. thank you again and Mazda is doing good with this model.
Strait 6 in the Miata! Yes. Do it!
I got to test drive a CX-90 recently. It was really nice! Only dealbreaker was that there wasn’t enough cargo room behind the third row once I added my grandma’s walker. I’m almost tempted to trade in my Kia Sportage PHEV for it.
Kia build quality , design , fit and finish are not even close to CX90.
Fold third row and it will fit whatever you need to fit 😉
Folding the third row doesn't help since the whole point is that I wanted three rows. Maybe I'll trade in my Kia for a Sienna XSE then get a CX-90 used one day.
@@MistahWorldwide walkers usually fold easily in 3 seconds and than should fit with no issues ....or you may miss great car because of a ....walker
Always love the Dave Coleman appearances!
Waiting for the CX70
Outstanding! I wish I could smash the Like button 10 times! (Actually, I can, but the end result is still just one Like.)
Would love it if you guys could share this episode on your socials . . .
Yes! I6T Miata. Stretch the hood for a little XKE-like look and let the prodigious torque roll!! REALLY. I6T Miata. I’ll be in line immediately.
Why so expensive when the base cx-90 starts in the high 30s
@@curiosityredpill7030 I would pay 45-50k for a new Mazda 6 with the RWD platform and the 340hp inline 6. Acura TLX with similar hp is almost 10k more, and it's a FWD-biased AWD.
This is the type of car-related video that I personally enjoy the most. Thank you Mr. Coleman, and Moto-Man!
By the way, did he say “BROWN MANUAL DIESEL WAGON” with inline 6? Because as a single Mazda fan with lots of stuff to carry around daily, it’s something I’m really going to look forward to. Forget diesel and brown, but seriously.
He was joking, it's been a meme for years.
