  • This video compares the design and customisation methods for Sanwa, Seimitsu and generic brand arcade joysticks stocked at Highway Entertainment. The video outlines how to switch joystick tops and change the allowed directional movements the joystick may make (e.g. 8-way, 4-way or 2-way movements).
    Some people prefer Seimitsu joysticks as it is easy to visualise how they may be disassembled, as it is held together by phillips head screws. Sanwa parts may be replaced without removing tools as lugs hold the assembly together and may be disassembled by squeezing and twisting lugs and catches.

    I found there's not really much price difference between high end vs knockoff,
    may as well go with japanese ones.

    Zippy sticks are great,just change the microswitches to better ones (Omron,Cherry,etc) and there is actual no difference with Seimitsu LS-32

    Great video to understand the differences!
    I prefer the seimitsu cause it's the easiest to replace and the short shaft is better for me while playing fighting games. Everyone will recommend a sanwa over a seimitsu for Street Fighter, Kof etc, but you should try for yourself. I always used sanwa, last year there was a seimitsu on sale. I was a little bit pissed that I've never tried one, combos and moves work so much better for me with a seimitsu.

      Thanks for your feedback. We actually use the Seimitsu with fixed plate for retro games. We have never had issues with this joystick, very reliable.

    Seimitsu has the better octo gate by a mile. At least on the LS-55.
    Though that's a pretty niche case I suppose

    Great video. Ive found both Sanwa and Seimitsu sticks are awesome and of equal quality. Its really about what type of games you want to specialise in, if you want more universal gameplay over all genres and what your prefference for feel is. Theres not a right answer but each player will find a combination of stick, spring, actuator and gate that feels best for certain types of games. You cant go wrong with either brand. I was using a Hayabusa stick for a while and found I was mostly playing shooters on my stick. The Hayabusa has more deadzone and is looser which suits fighters better. I switched over to a Seimitsu 62 and was able to make micro adjustments much better for shooters. The bat top also reduced slippage and felt more precise. Still prefer the Hayabusa for fighters but am mostly a pad user when it comes to those.

      Thanks for your review, we totally agree. Its all personal preference. We hope to have new videos shortly on a number of new joystick/button models, some look really great with illuminated lighting, but on a professional level they are not so great for hardcore gamers.

      @@highwayarcade Glad to contribute. Reviews of the luminated buttons would be interesting. Im looking to put the Hayabusa joystick in another base. The Mayflower F500 seems good for that. I was considering going with LED buttons, bat top but wouldnt want to sacrifice gameplay quality. I noticed the LED buttons are usually made by a generic company.

    Highway Entertainment,
    I know you mostly deal with the Joystick types mentioned in your video. I was wondering if you've ever tried Happ joysticks (competition version mainly since I guess that's their top of the line). More importantly I guess, if you could speak on Sanwa vs Happ. I've heard good things about Happ and that they more mimic the style of American arcades in the 80s, but I can't imagine Sanwa disappointing.
    Thank you for your time!

    Hi!
    I growed up playing american style joysticks in the arcade houses.
    Now I own a Sanwa joystick (currently using Octagonal Gate, the only modification I've made till the moment) and when I try to Play *The King of Fighters 98* , I'm having a really hard time to make Desperation Moves like...
    *↓ ↙ ← ↙↓↘ →*
    Or
    *↓↘ →↘↓↙←*
    Two things really confuses me:
    1) I didn't have any problem at all to do those commands in american style joysticks.
    2) It _only_ happens in The King of Fighters *98* . When I try in other games (Like KOF 98 or Snk Vs Capcom), I don't have any problem.
    Anyone has or had the same problem?

    • @Coballes19
      @Coballes19 8 лет назад

      The biggest hurdle for me with Sanwa+square gate is doing the classic bnb combo of:
      d+A,d+B,f+A, qcf hcb P.
      The df on the qcf is ALWAYS missing. Can't pull it off consistently. I heard KOF games are pretty much seimitsu's territory.

    • @carlosbarreto4695

      Coballes19 Maybe you should try the octagonal restrictor.

      I really hate long inputs. However, it takes a lot of practice. Sadly it’s still going to have a fail rate. All input is time sensitive and not to mention the opponent can react.
      I spend a lot of time in practice. I still fail a lot, and find it almost hard to pull off large inputs during serious vs matches.

    So if I were to buy a joystick should I buy Seimitsu or Sanwa

    • @antonivi8968
      @antonivi8968 6 лет назад

      I've used both (I'm pretty sure although noone explictly said, 'This is X' - the feel fit tthe general. Sanwas are a bit looser while Seimitsus feel tighter and have a shorter throw in general. They're preferred by shoot'em up players (I've played a shoot'em up with a Sanwa JLF and it's impossible unless you mod it or something.
      The video does not mention that the buttons are also different. Sanwas activate very fast with little pressure. I personally like resting ny fingers on the buttons so I wasn't a fan of this.
      The Hori Hayabusa is a relatively new stick design that is also very good (I've used it often for 2 years until very recently, across all arcade genres). People generally prefer Sanwa parts for fighters but I've used Hori parts for them just fine. I didn't get to purchase my own Seimitsu parts yet but I've heard they can be used for fighters as well. The only rule I'll give you is don't bother using Sanwa parts for shoot'em ups unless you plan on modding them for something (actually Sanwa buttons would be fine but not a Sanwa stick). Also there are many different brands amongst the same vendor (in particular Seimitsu). Most like the LS-32 (buy the new one 2017 model, comes with a shaft cover), but I've heard good things about the LS-56 often enough but I haven't tried it to my knowledge.

    I would take an Industrias Lorenzo over the Japanese sticks, regardless of what the Fight stick fan boys may say. The idea that they are more rugged then the Happ/IL design is laughable. The better argument is they have a more delicate control. But for rugged use I think the IL's are tougher, and will last longer. You also forgot the Korean sticks.

    • @highwayarcade
      @highwayarcade  9 лет назад

      SargNickFury Thanks for the comment! This video is just on joysticks Highway Entertainment has for sale, which is why there is no mention of IL or Korean sticks. But we listen to customer and social media feedback, and perhaps we will consider stocking those sticks in the future...

    • @SargNickFury
      @SargNickFury 9 лет назад +1

      I think the reality is an IL a Sanwa a Crown will all do the job......but ultimately it's about nostalgia for many and what they loved in Arcades....for me the IL's remind me of what arcades used to be when I grew up, and they're made with better quality then the now Chinese happ stuff. Rugged and made for abuse.....But then I am using it more for arcade type games and not modern fighters. IL is a Jeep, and Sanwa is a sports car.....I'm a jeep guy.
