    Thank you guys for this videos, I can see that some things are so simple for you, that you hold your laughs, but believe me, for a new player or returning after long hiatus (me) this kind of content is PURE GOLD, easy to process while painting, without need to hard focus, so keep it up!

    Great video and good explanations. A couple of things that could make it even better: Use the data sheet for the units you are talking about to avoid confusion for beginners and in the end when you talk about 3 times of weapons avoid calling them anti as this can be confused with the keyword anti.

      Technically you don't choose who your leaders are attached to until after you and your opponent have decided who the attack and defender are when setting up your game. It's not something you do when building your army. It's dumb because you will always build your army knowing who's going to be attached to who, but that's just the way they wrote the rules.

    Still trying to wrap my head around visibility a little bit. You say it's done on a model by model basis. Ok so, say I have a 10 model unit and you have a 10 model unit. Two of your models can see one of my models, the rest cannot see any part. Your 2x models can shoot my unit and do so. They have 1 attack each, which both wound and are 2dmg weapons. So inflict 2x wounds for 2 dmg each. My models have 2 wounds each and fail to save. Do I kill the one model that was visible? Or two, and I can chose to remove models that were not visible to the attacking unit? I think it's 2x models dead and I can remove models of my choosing, but want to get this right

    So I was taught in another video that when rolling for hits (I think), a 6 is always a success and a 1 is always a failure. I guess that doesn't apply to saves if your example of AP-2 means don't bother rolling?

    • @MajorSquiggles
      @MajorSquiggles 6 месяцев назад +2

      Correct, a saving throw of 1 always fails, but a 6 doesn't guarantee success. When rolling to hit and rolling to wound is when a 6 always succeeds because that is a critical, and critical hits or critical wounds always succeed. It can be possible for the AP of a weapon to require a 7+ roll to save. So even if you rolled a 6 you would still fail. In that case no point on rolling.

    Hey guys thanks for the content. Just wanna ask, is it the close proximity to the barrel that gives the benefit of cover to the infantry you can’t draw line of sight to?
    What I’m really wondering, is: if they are standing out in the open, but the attacking unit can’t draw line of sight to all the models, do the ones not visible get the benefit of cover?
    Thank you. Hope my question wasn’t too poorly worded

  • @davidsonfamily2930
    @davidsonfamily2930 6 месяцев назад +2

    So models shoot units? Like if 2 of my squad of 10 can see 2 of your squad of 10, I can shoot with just the two, and if I score 2 kills you can remove any two models from the unit I shot at?

    • @ElOvnen
      @ElOvnen 6 месяцев назад +2

      Exactly. *Models* target *units* with their attacks. Only after the attacking player has successfully wounded does the defending player actually assign the wound to a model.

      @scevvin7788 6 месяцев назад

      But in the rules it says that if one model can see the other model, the *unit* can shoot. I don’t see where it specifies only those models that have visibility can fire. Visibility, as far as I’ve seen, only matters for target eligibility.

    • @ElOvnen
      @ElOvnen 6 месяцев назад

      @@scevvin7788 It's the second sentence of the 'Select Targets' section at the very start of the 'Shooting Phase' rules:
      "Each time you select a target for a model’s ranged weapon, you can only select an enemy unit as the target if at least one model in that unit is both within range of that weapon and *visible to that attacking model*."

    • @scevvin7788
      @scevvin7788 6 месяцев назад

      @@ElOvnen yeah that clarifies it, I was thinking that because the one model that can see the other, it grants visibility to your unit and therefore all models in your unit, regardless of line of sight, have visibility of the enemy unit.

  • @ninjamikeus

    So with the Infiltrators behind the crate, even the models completely behind the crate can be shot at with the benefit of cover? If that’s true, what would ever be the point of peeking a single model out from behind cover?

  • @kevinishki

  • @OnlyabcS

    Is there one for melee? Also one for my ape brain on how to do the wound rolls 😅

    • @MajorSquiggles
      @MajorSquiggles 6 месяцев назад

      Seems like they're going in order of how a turn is played so not yet. Next will be charging which is required to get into melee, then they'll go over fighting. Making melee attacks works almost exactly the same way. You roll to hit, then roll to wound, then roll to save. The difference is in how you get into fights, what's an eligible target, and what order you do everything.
      Wound rolls are really easy if you think of it this way. First you take the strength of the weapon you're using, then look at the toughness of the unit you are hitting. Start at the baseline. If your strength is equal to the targets toughness they are even so you need a 4 or higher to wound. A 4 or higher is 50/50 which makes sense if you're evenly matched. If you are stronger then you get an advantage that is one better. So what's one better than wounding on a 4? Wounding on a 3 since you now have an extra face on the dice to succeed. But if you're weaker you lose one so instead of a 4 you would wound on a 5. If you are twice as strong as your target (say strength 6 hitting a toughness 4 unit) then we can again improve our odds by one more. And what's one more better than 3? Wounding on a 2 or higher. Same goes for being half as strong (strength 3 against toughness 6). You are now worsening by another one which means you'd only wound on a 6.
      Remember that when rolling to hit or wound you always fail if the face that shows on the dice is 1, and always succeeds if the dice rolled a 6. Doesn't matter if there are any bonuses or minuses.

  • @scevvin7788
    @scevvin7788 6 месяцев назад

    I’m confused, where in the rules is the part about if only a couple of models can see the target unit, only those can shoot? I searched through the codex and don’t see any specifics about that?

    • @VanguardTactics
      @VanguardTactics  6 месяцев назад

      Hi there, so basically you determine visibility on a model by model basis, check the select targets section first paragraph in the shooting phase in the core rules. "each time you select a target for a models ranged weapon you can only select an enemy unit as the target if at least once model in that unit is both within range and visible to the attacking model" hope that helps dude :)

    • @scevvin7788
      @scevvin7788 6 месяцев назад

      @@VanguardTactics yeah thanks that clarifies it! I was thinking that because the one model in my unit grants visibility of the enemy unit, that means all of the models can “see” the enemy unit. But since it’s based on true line of sight, each model has to literally see.
      Thanks for all of the videos and I’m repping VT with a jersey out here in Utah!

    Great vid, hopefully you can answer this for me, as I'm coming back from 2nd and 3rd edition. In the first example....could the space marines opt to shoot the exocrine instead of the gaunts or is it still like 3rd where you have to shoot the closet enemy unit? Or could the baal (if going first) opt to shoot the exocrine or does it have to shoot the gaunts since it's closet to it? Many thanks!

      It looks like those two models are not fully visible to the attacking unit, so the BoC still applies to them, and so they are eligible models to.remove in this case.
      If those two models were fully visible however, then you would be correct.
