I don’t think the safeguard is flooding. It’s too slow and they could survive a multitude of ways. I’m leaning towards something like poisonous gas, or something that could kill everyone at once.
Remember back to the first episode of S2, the Sheriff said "we have no choice" of staying in the Silo 17 because the people will die from the flooding, or risk going outside where they could die. That's the threat that made Meadows drink. She realized she was in a no-win situation. I have NOT read any of the books.

I can easily see Lady Simms tossing Bernard over the edge, and he wrecked body landing down in Engineering. I have NOT read the books, that is simply my best guess.
They blame “Eater” for their parents getting killed because another mouth to feed meant they were more desperate for food. As a book reader, the show has gone in a different direction with alot of characters and plot lines. Kids are in the book but it was done very differently. ThinkStory has great theories for the show.
best episode of the season by FARRRR. Very emotional scenes and I will say that the slow build probably did help to make it that way. Despite how annoying it was most of the time, pros cons blah blah blah. I don’t think Lucas saved the episode tho I actually thoroughly enjoyed the 17 scenes and story here. It was amazing work overall on the episode here tho in my opinion.
the need for instant gratification from you guys is terrible. you have no patience. just for example you start the show with the end of the episode because your instant gratification need required it. just read the damn books already. better yet just go look up a synopsis. it's all your brain requires. the rest is lost on it.

I thought it was weird that the “Algorithm” referred to itself as “we” when talking to Lukas. Like, who the f’ is “we”??
