This is a serious health crisis here in the U.S. and although our country is rich, the wealth is not distributed at all fairly. So many families suffer with a family member having serious mental health issues and find that there's no help available to them. Shame on America !

Absolutely should be charged for the waste of time and resources. We really do need mental health resources for people because anyone who acts like this is so unwell and it's so unfair the police have to deal with it.
We do, but treatment isn't a magic wand. When people have personality disorders that manifest with blaming others, an exaggerated sense of entitlement, hostility, paranoia, sadism, etc. and have no interest in changing, mental health treatment isn't going to work. Egosystonic refers to the phenomenon of an individual seeing their behavior and attitudes as part of an ideal personality, as strengths, not as problems. If we are inconvenienced, repulsed, or hurt by them, it's our problem, not theirs. They're so much more important than anyone else.
it’s unfair to the citizens. not the cops. i understand when crimes are committed but a lot of times these people just need intervention and have committed those crimes as a result. this woman being an example. cops aren’t trained for this and it further exacerbates the issue for everyone. she doesn’t need a criminal record, she needs help. maybe some repercussions for calling so many times but not jail time where her mental state will deteriorate.
@@evelynwaugh4053 It really isn't that complicated. Remove people like this from society that cause problems and clearly have health issues that they should not be dealing with alone. Revamp the mental care facilities, make sure they are given the care and help they need away from society as a whole so that it can still function with efficiency and regular people aren't put at risk. Much like building a border wall, the US could do things to look after its own people if corruption wasn't so rampant.

Why would any decent prosecutor prosecute someone who is so obviously ill, and presents no danger to society? Clearly mental health issues.
Whoever made the decision to close down the insane asylums should be jailed themselves. Far too many of these people out and about and they just cannot cope with society and they do need an asylum where they'll receive care and respite.
That would be the US Supreme Court in 1975 in O'Connor vs Donaldson, everything that happened with the asylums after in the 80s was rooted in that decision.
To me, the softness that the state displayed in this case may mean they reached some sort of mental health solution agreement while in jail that wasn't released due to HIPAA reasons.
Speculation on my part, but this sort of thing may be as mundane as a UTI. I have seen multiple older women change radically in a shortish time due to this. Older women who get UTIs can radically change behavior to this cognizant dementia-like quiet anger where they are clearly schizophrenic but not outright violent. Men generally have no idea of womens health problems and to most women UTIs are normal to get every once in a while so not a big deal, so this sort of thing goes under the radar.

I work in New Zealand as a 111 (same as 911) operator and it's interesting to watch this. We get a lot of "regulars" who suffer from mental health issues. They call about anything from imaginary people walking around their house to unknown people putting cyanide in their walls (all delusion of course). I dont know how many calls this woman has made in the past, but it looks like mental health is a factor.
For the sake of this woman, I hope she's assessed and the right care is taken.
If anyone is curious, I'm happy to answer any questions as to what the job is like or what often happens to these people in my country.

As an American, we desperately need better services and training for mental health. We also need better addiction treatment services.
So how would this situation have been handled in NZ? What is the protocol there in regards to mental health?
@@kijanailis Every situation differs of course. Firstly as the operator, getting a call like this if we suspect it's mental health related we would put in a mental health job for local units to be aware. If there's any nearby units that arent occupied, they'll attend sort of like a welfare check to make sure she's alright. In the event the caller is uncooperative or potential harmful to herself or others, they can be detained and sectioned by the Mental Health Act.
If it gets to the point they're sectioned, they can be forced to get psychiatric help or to stay at certain facilities. Best case scenario we can work with the family though or medications and so on to avoid having to remove people from their homes. Its a very tough situation and all case by case
