    Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
    With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

    A flat roof notoriously has more issues related to water. I personally prefer the appearance of the elevated arched roof lines. These are exciting projected upgrades to your orangery.

      It’s actually only about what’s best for us as it’s our private home. Luckily we also wish to stay true to the heritage as much as we can afford to, so I think we’ll find a good balance.

    🍎 Karen and Bo,
    Beautiful, sunny day! Literally!
    About your nice white sheets. I must tell you I don't like white sheets because it reminds me of hospital beds and a funeral! This goes back as far as when I was a child! It's not only depressing, but upsetting! So if we would rent one of your beautiful rooms, trust me I would have to bring our sunset yellow sheets or blue green sky sheets, because those colors wake you up and make you feel like dancing all the way to the kitchen for a hearty delicious breakfast! Why in the name of God as my grandmother would say when something didn't make sense to her, that you would slave yourself to iron white sheets that people are so tired in the evening, they really don't care that you should choose uplifting and sunset colored sheets. Not to mention if you continue to iron so much, in the long run it's the worst thing you can be doing for your bones and muscles in your fingers as it can lead to rheumatoid arthritis because of the steaming and the ironing. If we should have a bed and breakfast, it definitely won't be white sheets because of the heat of ironing them that affects the body, that you are already getting in your neck because of too much heat that you absorb through your fingers that can affect your nervous system. Your guests will probably show up in time for breakfast because they're in a better mood because of the beautiful, colorful sheets that you really need to have and donate all those white sheets! Speaking about breakfast, some people are not hungry or have a very late breakfast like we do, that we consider brunch because it's past breakfast. So my thought is, check with your guests if they want to eat breakfast at your table or take breakfast with them. If they choose to take it with them, then it's less work for you to clean up. That's what we would request if we rented a room with you, as we also love to have our breakfast alone until we can wake up and in a more talkative mood. Link below is for wrinkle free sheets that you can get on Amazon so you don't have to slave yourself to iron them and it can really affect your nervous system from the heat of the ironing.
    Happy delicious Thanksgiving!🌴🇺🇲 🇩🇰 🇫🇷

      I replied in your second comment. But per the elevator, it’s a sensible decision IF we ever do it. Some people struggle with our stairs and some can’t even do that. While you may like the ‘idea’ of the old wooden servant staircase, people are important and should be considered. It’s not a done deal, so don’t lose any sleep over it. Many years off if we do it at all.

As always, the plans you have are great.

    4:57 I’m sorry but this is actually horrible and disgraceful what you’re doing to this beautiful stunning orangerie and I don’t think this is allowed ! • @queensescape
      @queensescape  8 месяцев назад

      Now. Now. There are plenty of authorities in place to assure the heritage of the building is maintained. We don’t consider wheelchair access illegal. In fact it’s quite the opposite. And adding bathrooms in a style that compliments the building is hardly destructive. It, also, is legally required. Renovating this beautiful building with care and respect for its original design is the only thing that will allow it to continue to be enjoyed by people in the years to come. The alternative is allowing it to fall to ruin which would truly be a crime. Rest assured the French authorities in regard to monument historique are at the helm. 😊

    Well you can certainly see the amount of effort you have put into the bathroom, parking scenarios. If you are considering this as a destination venue, you flat out need more toilets and sinks. You have to consider the (LONGEVITY) of your project, and the chateau in years to come. Limiting this for 2 toilets may be a no go for many potential guests. What if one toilet breaks, or both. Limiting this to two toilets could sabotage the project. Bo, when travelers get off an airplane at the airport, first thing they do is head straight to the bathroom, and there is always a line. It would be the same for any customers, regardless of disability, especially bringing them in on a bus. Gender specific is always best. Any potential brides, this would impede them getting ready as well. There needs to be a holding transition room and I did not see any type of kitchen sink areas for caterers. Maybe consider enlarging to the back wall of the orangery. The ramp could be useful for caterers however, if people are in line for the bathroom, it will not work. I would consider some type of cover over the ramp area, if it is raining, or too hot of a day. Additionally, drinks on terrace, that is too far for a guest with mobility issues getting back over to the ramp. Consider the other side of the chateau, another route. I would rent a wheelchair and push each other for real trial run.

    Lifts can easily break so the ramp makes more sense.
    I'm thinking a pitched roof would help to shed rain and possibly snow. Not sure how much precipitation you receive in your area so that would be a concern. A flat roof tends to eventually leak.
    This space is already spectacular and with the changes it will be stunning

  • @sylviamatthee8172
    @sylviamatthee8172 10 месяцев назад

    As it is a historic site you will be sensitive regarding the environment and the overall look. A flat roof is not ideal, as it will not look great as in fitting in, plus a flat roof will only last 20 years. There will be storage space in a pitched roof for WC paper, cleaning stuff etc etc, which is practical. It is good that you talk with architects and maybe have a look at what other château owners have decided in a similar situation. You are working hard, as per usual! Wishing you well.

    Re the ramp. @1:56. I have a better idea, Instead of having an external lift, why not place the lift inside in rear of the central hall, where it's inside and protected from the elements and have the wheelchairs exit under the building On the path that goes under the main staircase, straight to the front.
    That way people have shelter from the elements while waiting for the lift. Also works for catering.
    The ramp as designed is huge and not fitting with the orangery style. This plan hides the mechanics, keeping full historical value of the orangery.
    All elevators must have a yearly servicing. Elevators exposed to the elements as you currently have will not have a long service life, and high repair costs.

    • @MidnightVisions
      @MidnightVisions 10 месяцев назад

      And for a lift, use a pneumatic elevator, not a cable lift as they are extremely noisy, and pneumatic are silent.

    • @queensescape
      @queensescape  8 месяцев назад

      The room under the staircase is not a hall that accesses anything. It’s a very old stone enclosure with HUGE stones above and all around. Otherwise, loved your idea. The ramp won’t happen due to lack of French government approval, so a covered lift is what’s next.
