This is all so interesting. I am sure the people who used to live there loved reminiscing and seeing how everything is still pretty much there. Thanks for sharing Karen.
Getting a bit teary eyed! To think they lived and worked there at the chateau and treasured seeing you and Bo as keepers of their memories. So special!
I feel the same when I think about those visits. I always wonder about who lived here before and all that happened, the good and the bad. It puts things in perspective.
Hearing those stories of those the lived there is a profoundly touching experience. How lucky ye are. Your dad is so impressive. He did a lot while there. I love the plans for the apt. ❤
I just had goosebumps from the last guest who told you about her life at the chateau ❤ An amazing gift from the past to puzzle the history together forever.
I did too. I didn’t have the volume up but it was a completely joyous visit with us all talking over each other in broken French and English. There was a language barrier but sometimes it doesn’t matter. Emotion finds a way. ❤️
We knew the history before we named the rooms and while the Belgian story inspired the name, we didn’t want to make that too much the focus of the business. But more the idea of a getaway for people to be treated royally. A little bit more abstract. But I can imagine bringing that story into the chateau in some creative way. 😊
I agree that you have an amazing storytelling ability. The history of the chateau is fascinating. You both are celebrating the integrity of the property and bringing it back to life. And doin the work yourself gives you both such a great sense of accomplishment. You guys are a great example of stewardship. Deborah USA 😊😊❤❤
So interesting to see the pictures of the history of families that lived in your home and the future plans for your parents! Puts a smile on my face with the thought of family being so close!!! Good luck
Beautiful plans for the new accommodation -its nice to have the walls of bedrooms on the side of the windows...bringing in as much light into each living space/bedroom as possible. It will definitely be a beautiful place when completed.
There is a while another floor above the apartment, before we get to the roof, so no, we didn’t plan on that. But I like that idea. My father installed those in his own house.
That was a lovely day for all I am sure. Things were so different then. All those rooms and put into the outhouse. The chateau must have touched many lives. Open plan seems to be the fashion in the UK but I wouldn't want to be sitting in sight of the kitchen 😊 Would be amazing to have family there.
💕Any guests/visitors would have to walk through the small bedroom to use the toilet💕If you changed your design slightly & made it a jack & jill bathroom it would still be an on suite plus you could add a utility room as well💕
New subscriber here. The historical information is priceless. Some of the chateau crowd have little info, while others have archives back 500 years. Any clues on how spaces were used, and things like the corn crib/laundry line - what a treat to know. You plans for the stable apartment look very good, and ambitious.
Hi everyone. It must been a great experience too hear this people talk about the château and how it was too live there. I hope Bosses hand is better. Best regards from a Swed in France
Nice idea to have family close , but could I mention the kitchen needs light and bedrooms don’t really , bedrooms in the back swap living room and kitchen in the front and master in the back.. so you will have a light filled living room and kitchen ( where you live )
The living room and kitchen do stretch to the front. It’s open plan for those rooms. With the existing design, all rooms benefit from light and a window. Bathrooms are in the back at present. I so appreciate you sharing your idea. It helps us widen our discussion. 😊
There is an upper floor in the stable so if we did that, it would have to be those metallic tubes that run all the way up through that room to the ceiling. It would be disruptive if we decide to do something with that upper space later…. Possibly on the back side close to the wall. Hmmm. 😊
That is a good question. We do not know the answer to that, but I don’t think so, because we are not adding buildings to the property. The tax fonciere this year was 2-300€ more than what the previous owner had paid before. The first thing we got permission to do last year, is to have gites on the property. And there’s no limitation to how many gites we can have. We only plan to have one though, and that is the old caretakers apartment. Once the new apartment is done, and Karen’s parents are not staying there, the plan is to rent it out as a Gite housing minimum 6 people. Bo
@@BoSAChristensen Thank you for the answer Bo. I am asking because we are in the process of looking at castles to buy. I asked a notaire the question, but didnt receive an answer yet.
Oh I see, yes it’s best to ask people who knows the exact rules. Sounds like you’re in a very exciting process. I hope you find your dream chateau :) Bo
How wonderful to have the family come and tell you some of the history of the chateau and also to see the photographs!
Amazing history! It makes the buildings seem as if they are alive again!
It really does.
You're doing a good job telling these stories Karen.
That is really nice of you to say. I make as much effort as possible to be clear, so I’m happy to get encouragement.
What a wonderful experience to learn how the chateau has been loved for so many years!
How lovely to get some history of your home first hand 😊
So special.
This is all so interesting. I am sure the people who used to live there loved reminiscing and seeing how everything is still pretty much there. Thanks for sharing Karen.

It's so important to know the history of the chateau 🙂
I remember reading about the RF staying at a chateau and now I know exactly where. How amazing. What a special place you have.
What wonderful visitors to have. Just fascinating learning about the chateau. Such happy memories. Thank you so much for sharing.

My dad has never been able to sit still. He’s a doer. Thank you for your kind words.

How exciting, that these people came to share their memories and knowledge😊 But now, you almost have to create a room for Queen Lillian? 😊

Love, love, love to hear the stories of the past and to think you and Bo will one day 'the past'!
This episode was really interesting and fun to watch. I loved the stories that were shared.
Me too. I love it when others share first-hand. It was very touching in person.
Great History Wonderful For You Both Love To Here The Chateau History it makes it special for you both💕
Loved hearing the history of the chateau!
It's very interesting the history that went on back all those years ago . ❤
Wonderful history! So lovely to hear and see the pictures!😊

Hi, I love your plans. Have you thought about putting skylights in the roof to create more light for the back rooms, seeing they don't have windows.

Fascinating Karen (?)!
Went immediately into Google to read up more history!

Hi Lars!
Just found you guys and I absolutely love your vlogs
Very kind. Thank you and welcome!
It looks like an interesting plane. Could you put in solar tubes for lighting?
We can’t bc there’s another level to the outbuilding above the apartment that we will renovate someday.

A question ... does your tax foncière or habitation goes up when you renovate something ? Thank you
