Hearing anti-racism from an angry Black rapper wanting to be heard is one thing; hearing it from a privileged, White, male, blonde, blue-eyed country singer is another. Newborns don’t see race. As they grow up, they will see race and differences, but instead of turning into racists and xenophobics, they should learn to EMBRACE diversity. The world needs to hear this song again.

I don't normally care for message-driven songs (be it in country, rock, folk or pop) but Mullins really sells it here. Doesn't seem forced and I like that. Like, in the bridge starting around 2:29, Mullins suddenly brings up how he's struggling with his own demons and how he wants to defeat them so he too could "shimmer" (just like the people in the previous verses and chorus). I really dig that. Wish he had more of a lasting career beyond Lullaby.
Hey Cathy--I understand, I was married 20 years. We just grew in different directions and now, 4 years on my own and the last 2 in a love affair just with me, I am shimmering and shining again. I've never had this much time with me, out of a relationship, for my entire life! It takes guts to leave the ruts, it is hard but it seems worth it. I felt like I was no longer living, just headed toward dying, Now I a fully ME again!

+Paul Russel I went and saw Fuel live in concert when they opened for Van Halen (I think in '98) and it was 2 months after the release of Fuels "Sunburn" album which barely anyone knew of at that point. The reason I'm writing all this is because when they performed "Shimmer" I was blown away!! I obviously had no ideas who they were at the time, I was only 16/17 yrs old, and I remember going out the very next day and buying their album and listening to it non-stop all Summer long!
