That performance is as professional as professional gets. You know he has sung the song 1000 times but he gives it like its the admission test for heaven.
@@randybarba6899 -- The Laravie sounded _much_ better than the Martin. I spent about three and a half hours playing and deciding which one "felt" better playing. I bought the Laravie.
Yes. No processing, no bullshit. Just the original version of the song that he wrote....and isn't corrupted by the business machine that pressed it onto a CD.
Too bad all the masses want now are Kesha, Kanya, and just stupid bs . 90's alternative is still my favorite. I don't get where and why it died but there's no more alternative music and it's depressing
Kevin Michael they don't care about talent anymore, they only care about controversy. If someone was shot 9 times they sign them to a recording contract. That's all that matters. So true talent like Shawn Mullins is falling by the wayside.
don't worry...he is. the worthy shall find him. we did. the new generation is fine. colter wall, billy strings...damn, there's LOT's of fine new talent. seek it out. fuck, john mayer is touring with the Dead and KILLIN' it. we'll be fine
My husband at 38 years old passed away 9 years ago, and i can hear him "trying" to sing this song when he'd make me mad. But I am thankful for Shawn's Lyrics and sweet voice, it brings tears and great memories. What a gift
Shawn Mullins, you still have those beautiful high notes, and the lone acoustic guitar brings a new sensitivity to an always great song. Well done, man.
I remember seeing this dude promoting this song on uk tv when I was a kid. Asked my dad to buy it on tape for me when it came out, and he did. Man do I feel old.
I listen to this again... No, not because i can't stop, or that i am hooked on it. But i listen to it again because this is one of the best artistic displays i have seen.
One of the best acoustic live performance I have ever heard and seen. How can just one man create something so beautiful with just a guitar and that voice, what control. I am reminded of my college days, thank you!! better than the original version.
@@jonard2ballovar542 He is. As I posted above, he met a woman in LA who told him about how her parents used to party with the stars. And it left her life a mess.
this song is my childhood right here. I remember when I was little in the car me and my parents would sing all the songs off of every album. I've listened to this song since I was 2 years old that 16 years later I still remember every word
What a storyteller! The voice, the story (which he once said was real, sorta. Someone in LA told him about the parents who partied with the stars). I get mesmerized watching his hands move up and down the fretboard. In my late teens, early 20's, we'd play these open-tuning songs with ease. They sounded like magic. Now I can't even tell what the tuning is! But what makes it for me is the chorus, where his voice breaks high on that word. 'Ever-eee-body's gonna be all right'... Like you do with yodeling. What comforting words. Good to hear this song again.
This song is timeless. his voice has aged well. one of those instances where the acoustic version is just as good if not better than the original track.
This is one of those tunes you hold on to. Since it came out and I first heard it I´ve had it in my heart. Thank you, Shawn. You bring out some great memories.
How nice it is that the audience was quiet and let him do the singing. Too many times these days, the audience thinks it's their job to sing right along. I don't go to a concert to listen to them
I HAVE TO KNOW WHY SOMEONE VOTES THUMBS DOWN ON THIS? i just need to know why? I MEAN... IF YOU DONT LIKE THE SONG, THEN WHY LISTEN? but if you like SM or this song, it's a pretty darn good performance
MAYBE because they didn't enjoy this song 20 years ago, hence they didn't get the nostalgia part. Maybe they're kids? Who knows. It's just a maybe. Maybe....Maybe....Maybeeeeverything's will be alright, Rock-a-bye, rock-a-byeeeeee!!!!!
I associate this song with a particular time in my life but to hear him now singing it live, WOW! He's just brilliant. Great voice and superb guitarist and great IRISH NAME!
Wow! Just wow! Incredible acoustic version of a very catchy song. Not many musicians can play their own music to such a level acoustically but Shawn Mullins makes it look effortless, amazing
They played this song on The Buzz in Houston a lot when I was in middle school. A lot of songs from those days painted a vivid but sardonic picture of the California dream. Am I the only one who got it?
This song came to my mind and I had to look it up....this is me, and I am crying profusely. No one has told me everything is going to be alright. Hearing this from you soothes me. Thanks

This is quite literally one of the best acoustic performances I've ever seen on RUclips... what MANIAC would give this a thumbs down!??!?
Absolutely. This station had good performances

Superb
i'm 80 years young and this touches me deeply
This is about a billion times better than the radio version by a long shot.
Yes. No processing, no bullshit. Just the original version of the song that he wrote....and isn't corrupted by the business machine that pressed it onto a CD.
Your comment is hyperbolic and repetitive. But, yeah. This version actually makes me cry. Every time.
Why does his recorded stuff mask what a talented singer he is?
Absolutely!
Raw and uncut
This is such a damn fine version.
+peesua Always have been. You´re right he is damn god live. Makes me remember the 90s, special times.
Well said Sand da floor
This is the type of musician who should be teaching the new generation.
i feel you

I 💯 agree with you,the music is actually coming from a guitar and that is his raw voice, anything today doesn't come close to the talent then

Listening in Sept 2024. Can’t believe this masterpiece has been on here for 13 years and I am just watching it now.
If I could sing, this is how I would want to sound.
My husband at 38 years old passed away 9 years ago, and i can hear him "trying" to sing this song when he'd make me mad. But I am thankful for Shawn's Lyrics and sweet voice, it brings tears and great memories. What a gift
OK, so we are all in agreement...this is the ONLY version of this song that is ever allowed to play again.
YES!!!!
This Song Literally Saved my Life 2 Years Ago. I still listen to It Everyday of My Life for Inspiration. Im Still here Man !!!!!!

Fucking genius he is amazing
i miss the 90s.
Shawn Mullins, you still have those beautiful high notes, and the lone acoustic guitar brings a new sensitivity to an always great song. Well done, man.
His use of chords is so artful. It’s as if he’s painting, drumming and strumming. Fantastic!
This was my dads favorite song. I still get misty eyed when I listen to it.
If you play and sing, you realize how much talent is on display here. Shawn is so good... He deserves a lot more appreciation than he's been given.
HOW!!!! is this guy not a household name??? Off the charts vocals and musicianship
So true Im ashamed to say I heard it for first time this AM
This is pure, raw, brilliant talent!!
Growing up in the nineties and listening to this masterpiece was the best thing that happened to me..
90s rock!!!
This is the most perfect song about L.A. there is. Paradise Lost.
I remember seeing this dude promoting this song on uk tv when I was a kid. Asked my dad to buy it on tape for me when it came out, and he did. Man do I feel old.

The only time I ever called a radio station asking for a song was this one. Will be in my music playlist forever!

His voice is fucking superb. It's like buttah.
Grammy winner for me... Love this song
His false etto is amazing!
Wonderful song.... I wish he could come to my local pub here in Trondheim....
What a truly beautiful voice. A lot of today's musicians need electronic filtering. Great Voice. Great Song, Love this song.

I’ve been missing his live voice so long. Thank you RUclips
Je ne me lasse pas d'écouter cette chanson. Il joue de la guitare merveilleusement bien et sa voix est réconfortante. Bravo!
Such an expressive guitarist too. This song is far better in this format than in the more famous version.
Hes one of those rare artists who combines music and storytelling. Music used to mean something to people on an emotional level.
April 2021 and I set this on loop. Dang those acoustics.
I associate this song with a particular time in my life but to hear him now singing it live, WOW! He's just brilliant. Great voice and superb guitarist and great IRISH NAME!
A master playing his masterpiece
Top 10 on my positive songs list.
Wow that was better than the original so much more true to his voice and his talent.
brilliant. i hope who ever he wrote this for is as grateful to hear it as Shawn seems to be every time he performs it . . .
Damn I could always listen to this kind of music unlike the music today.

A great song. From better days than these.
They played this song on The Buzz in Houston a lot when I was in middle school. A lot of songs from those days painted a vivid but sardonic picture of the California dream. Am I the only one who got it?

i love this song the first time i heard it and still do
Listening to him live is just like the album , what an amazing voice 👍
I really this song …
She grew up with
The children of the stars
In the Hollywood hills and the boulevard
Her parents threw big parties
Everyone was there
They hung out with folks like
Dennis hopper, Bob Seeger, sonny and Cher
Now, she feels safe
In this bar on Fairfax
And from the stage I can tell that
She can't let go and she can't relax
And just before
She hangs her head to cry
I sing to her a lullaby, I sing
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Rockabye
She still lives with her mom
Outside the city
Down that street about a half a mile
And all her friends tell her
She's so pretty
But she'd be a whole lot prettier
If she smiled once in a while
`cause even her smile
Looks like a frown
She's seen her share of devils
In this angel town
But, everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Rockabye
I told her I ain't so sure
About this place
It's hard to play a gig in this town
And keep a straight face
Seems like everyone here's got a plan
It's kind of like Nashville with a tan, but,
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye, rockabye, bye, bye
Bye, bye
