  • Five-truck small fleet owner Dave Marti hauls fuel and petroleum products leased to a larger outfit in Illinois, primarily. His preference for Caterpillar engines over the typical Detroit Series 60 remans in so many Fitzgerald Glider Kits led him to take delivery of this particular 389 in early 2017 and lay in the C13 motor himself. He never got a good answer about just how to deal with the generally smaller dimensions of the unit and so devised a custom bracketing solution for the engine supports shown in some detail here as Marti explains.

I run a 2005 peterbilt with a c-13, used to be a gas truck, now I pull an end dump, and sometimes demolition or step deck trailer but all In all its a good engine. For the most part it does good with whatever I pull, and very light. Both tanks 3/4 full and my 30’ Travis trailer empty weight is 29,700

C-13’s are great motors! They already said they’re running the Midwest. No need for a fat cat

I’ve had a c13 and a Series 60, not a bad motor. I can’t see why this was a great idea?! There’s a reason Fitzgerald uses the Detroit;)

@@daneblackburn613 yes, I’d only have had them install an official Detroit series 60 reman or one done by a shop specializing in them. Too many horror stories;(

I have a c13 pdi tuned and pulls better than a c15 and stays right with a 550 Cummins

Jesse Ferguson big loads, Super b, A train requires a bigger motor though. My single turbo c15 was so much better than my c13, the ACERT was awful

Crap the C13 is in the Prinoth Beast snowcat. So will that make my dream snowtoy crap? I'm not a newb, my last employer has over 80 gliders, I ran my own CAT 3406e and 3406b. But I have no knowledge of the C13. Just that in a snow machine they have it at 1600lbs of torque which would be awesome.

the real BLACK FACE I don’t know if they are that bad. I had mines for two years. The only things I did to it was change the head gasket the turbos. I’m just going to keep it and maintain it until it takes a shit on me
