The solution is to be accepting of your means, buy what you can afford and not rack up the debt to begin with.
Yes, mortgage is just the right to live in the property bought on conditions which may change overnight. Nothing is guaranteed. Especially now. You can, as "an owner", put nails where you want without asking anybody 😐

Well done Sam for making a change with your spending. These days nobody would be allowed to drop lots of balloons in the sky. The make up brands that cost very little are similar to the luxury brands.
I think it’s really embarrassing when people can not even cook the most basic meals. You can save so much money if you cook your meals instead of buying takeaway.
Fashion of early 2000s was pretty unfortunate and pricetag defo is not going to guarantee style. She also seems to be a lot of a sale buyer, what goes on sale is often very trendy stuff that's not going to age well.
Benjamin is such a depressing person, I couldn’t cope with therapy with him. Pulling her down because she can’t find ‘Negative feelings or anger or depression’. She just likes spending money because it’s fun and pleasurable . He’s an awful therapist , not positive thinking. The thing that’s ‘troubling her’ is she has overspent and has loads of debt nothing else deep dark and hidden . Imagine being married to him you would end up depressed even if you weren’t in the first place , he would talk you into it
His answer usually seems to be some variation on the theme of 'Daddy issues.' I suspect he couldn't pull it this time because she wouldn't talk about her family.
He’s not a therapist that’s why his technique is awful. He counsels based on his own consumeristic experiences. I remember hearing it in another episode. He is not licensed yet gives out all this garbage advice. One of the reasons I can’t take this show completely seriously.
Totally, you should leave something like this with a lot to think on, but also positive moves too. I also hate that they think a deeper is always to blame, like the fact she has some soft toys, they think she has childhood issues..... So no adult can have soft toys without having issues too?? I went to a therapist once wanting to sort out one problem, by the end she told me she thought I had many more issues that I originally thought. I left feeling awful and that my life must be worse than I ever thought , and never went back, but am doing well now.
How can someone who earns so little qualify for $52K ( pounds) ?? PLUS a home ?? She has spent so much on her make up, clothes, jewelry etc. but doesn't look it . Sell the car, keep ownership of the home, get a second and /or better job and pay back what you owe. Pay off the smallest bill then keep using the money , adding to it to pay off the rest.
This begs the question; why was someone that much in debt earning a small salary allowed to keep taking out new credit cards!? She was clearly irresponsible and never going to pay it back.
wont eat leftover pizza because its HARD? does she not know how a grill works? sandwich press also works well for pizza. Pizza is one of the most re-heatable foods in the world!
Misdirected anger there, girl. He clearly loves her and she's very fortunate indeed to have that support. No need to be angry if you don't have that for yourself. Anyone can make mistakes and she hasn't done a range of things that would have been far, far worse. The mistakes she has made are entirely able to be corrected with hard work and discipline which is what she has done. You don't think she deserves a second chance? Glad you aren't in charge of life then!
I do feel somewhat sad for this gal, even though she certainly behaved foolishly. There is no evidence of her receiving any financial education ever. She had the good taste not to spill the beans on national television, probably because it could embarrass other people, and she likely thinks it would sound like whining & blaming others for her predicament. (Which I think it would, too.) I hope these two do well in the future. That renegotiated debt was a pure (unearned) gift, though, so I hope she doesn’t waste this chance.
She was so irresponsible with her spending. Dreadful. But I found myself really liking her. I’m watching this years later. I hope all has gone well with her life ( and her partner) x
Most of the times the problem is that they never had to deal with the consequences of their choices and the new generation is creating a whole new version of these people, not showing their children how to be responsible and having respect for anything. Worst thing, the bank let her off of the rest, no lesson's learned again for her.
To be honest this is still one of the biggest things that keeps people financially poor. How many people have cars on PCP finance deals and after 3 years take the car back and get another one....keeping themselves in perpetual debt. Imagine if you took the £200-£400 per month car payment and invested it, how much money you will end up with. It’s just craziness.
What is also super sad is that what she bought and what many of the other young women on the show buy is extremely trendy and seasonal. If they are going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on designer, buy the timeless pieces that will still look beautiful 20 years from now. Most of these items would be in a landfill now, it's all so trendy at the moment and dated
Ok but was she allowed her high end makeup back? Because that’s pointless, she’s already bought it, so may as well let her use what she’s already spent. I understand introducing her to drugstore makeup, but that’s such a waste of makeup if they just throw it away.

Not gonna lie, had a little peek at her Facebook and she looks really well. Good on her!
Oh that's so good to hear! Thank you!
ohhh whats her fb?
Omg she looks amazing now!
They are now married and both of them look good. Good for them👏🏽
Oldest looking 21 year old I’ve ever seen
@gardintyven not true lol
Wow, what a deal she for. Sell the home and then the rest would be wiped clean. I wish I had gotten that offer. I hope they got that fresh start. An update should be shown. I must add though, she did not look 21 yrs old at all. That weight made her look much older.
I just saw her info on FB & Instagram (which is private). Not stalking just learned there's new info on her. She looks different. Lots of weight lost. Working with the homeless & rescue dogs. Gavin looks the same. They're married now. Good going. 👍🏼
Apparently they now own two houses too! 🤘🏻
Why is the home HE pays for being sold to pay for HER debt??
It's her house though; she bought it.
Because legally it's in both their names.
Simp
I'm livid about this. Is the 25k also his share?
02:29 "Christine" Dior😂
go_west Right?! So cute!
I wondered if I heard right when he said that. And the way he pronounced YSL as well !!
😂
this guy need to leave her. he is going to go bankrupt the way she is going
philip friedman You'd think with what she spends, she'd look better. She looks like crap!
It's about 15 years ago - maybe he did?
@@dermot2747 Nope they got married. Check FB!
Run boy, run 🏃
@@carolinepritchard3842 she also lost loads of weight and looked stunning in her wedding pic. Looked like a pricey wedding though 😉
Deeper issues than shopping addiction here.
Her husband to be will be having a nervous breakdown with all this debt she has.
Banks are part to blame though, they should never have leant this money to someone earning so little.
21 years old? She looks like she is over 40. Just goes to show what bad diet and habits can cause.
She has young beautiful skin, it's just the clothes. And the weight.
Yes she is quite overweight
hmmcinerney also the glasses, those rectangles could make a baby look 50
@@chlonanu , but they are probably designer brand
Joanne Lee just bc it’s designer doesn’t mean it makes her look younger, i will always hate rectangle glasses
Benjamin trying hard for the big emotional tv moment, that didn’t happen.
Ahaha
Hahaha he was so desperate it was crazy. 😭
He always tries to find something that isn’t there
@@Mittibh I've noticed that. He always wants to make them cry or reach an emotional breaking point and sometimes there really is no deep rooted issue- people just like to spend!
42k in debt at 21 that is scary
Sell everything except the house and start again. Rent a room and rent out her home.
Queen Z rent the house? Have you seen tenant from hell? I’d be terrified to rent out my house if I lived in the UK!
@@jandedick7519 it just TV, millions of people let out their homes, if you go through a proper agency, and really really vet your tenant, you will be ok!👌
But I have seen shows which demonstrate the opposite, so I definitely get your point of view
Sell sell sell....
I don't understand the lack of pride in people. If I was her I would feel really silly telling people I had to sell my home and rent it because I got into £52,000 in debt because I spent money on clothes and makeup I couldn't afford. Just personally I would be completely embarrassed but she is doing the right thing to resolve it. The solution is to be accepting of your means, buy what you can afford and not rack up the debt to begin with.
They actually got married in 2013!!!
It pisses me off when they say they own their own home ... they don't - the bank does! This woman is just sad, no matter how much she laughs.
Very true
Yes, mortgage is just the right to live in the property bought on conditions which may change overnight. Nothing is guaranteed. Especially now. You can, as "an owner", put nails where you want without asking anybody 😐
Bet you're great at parties jeez
What's interesting is that they never have anything to show for the debt. Like, their clothes just look blah, their appearance etc screams cheap
Thousands of pounds in debt to buy the latest fashion and by the time they do, the designer has released a whole new collection. And the cycle starts again.
It’s always the bigger bodied girls that only have a cup of soup for lunch...
I am off to watch some episodes of secret eaters after this to make things add up. Lol
Her takeaway teas don't help. I can go all day without eating anything until tea time then eat full calorie intake for the day or more so don't think it matters how much anyone is having for 1 meal when they're eating unhealthy the other meals
ONG I love you'r sense of humour 💝👍👍👍👍👍
Why was she not advised to sell her car and other possessions rather than her house?
It probably wouldn't accumulate to much plus the car is most likely on finance which she is locked in.
That is what happens when you have bad devicers who claim to know psychology!
Do you think those possessions would sell to cover 52K debt?
She may need her car for work.
@@natis3268 Exactly right. Selling the other items at a loss doesn't make sense. She sold the house at a profit so could use that to substantially pay off the loan, under a negotiated deal. Lots of people are facing this today it's the credit cycle.
Lots of designer brand jewellery is costume jewellery, not silver or gold more than likely. The brand name amps up the cost.
Looking at her I'd never guess what she had on her face was high end makeup 😬
She is now married to Gavin, in a fab job and looks AMAZING
Didn’t think of the environment when releasing those baloons
yes!! I was going to put that haha
Was thinking the SAME thing - that part did not age well, when do you think this episode is from?
exactly what I thought too
Noel Kassewitz 2005
I had that reaction too! Even in the early 00s I think the more aware of us knew that was a bad idea.
These people have no idea what it’s like being broke they live in complete denial I go hungry before I overdraw my account or go into debt
I dont't understand the critics about Ben. Maybe he's just introvert or shy or doesn't want to give too much emotion to his clients stories. I think he has skills as a therapist, he knows what he is talking about. He helps people to deal with their problems, he doesn't replace a mother or a father.
Exactly they don't understand the role he's performing and that it's not for entertainment in that his personality is to be as anodyne as possible, it's all about her life at this point. You're not supposed to know about the psychologist's life that leads to a problem called transference.
double her age in debt?
Either she's £42 in debt or shes 21000 years old.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gee you're so brilliant!
I'm homeless, living on 814 a month---none of these people would last very long in my world---fashion and frivolities are the 1st things to go...in fact, fashion is THE least important thing in life when you're poor---F-A-C-T.
‘Just’ a cuppa soup for lunch. Sureee. 😂.
Takeaway every night, work probably has free sweets and biscuits
Doesn’t look it
We have big problems if a 21 year old can get that much credit. How is this allowed.
It was pre the GFC. Different times now.
this was in 2005 before the recession
Boi I got 3k in loans at 18
this was like 20 years ago when the economy wasn't in the toilet
Yes it was because of people like her and the banks willingness to exploit people like her why the world ended up in the financial toilet. It would be more difficult now for her to borrow that much.
Also I've just searched her on facebook and wow aging has done this woman so much good she looks amazing!!!!!
To anyone curious to know, this program was made in about 2006 / 2007.
I'm basing this on the song: Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger which is on the show being released in 2006.
Well done Sam for making a change with your spending. These days nobody would be allowed to drop lots of balloons in the sky. The make up brands that cost very little are similar to the luxury brands.
Christine Dior 🤣
🤣
That is what I thought I heard him say. LOL.
#Fashion 😂
Jen W don’t forget Eve San Lauren
I came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed that. 😂
Did the fiance just call it Christine Dior???
Yes 😂
I can feel Christian Dior rolling in his grave, but I don't blame the guy.
Yes he did 😂
I think it’s really embarrassing when people can not even cook the most basic meals. You can save so much money if you cook your meals instead of buying takeaway.
She doesn't even looks classy or sophisticated with all of those high end brands 😳😳😳😳😳
Fashion of early 2000s was pretty unfortunate and pricetag defo is not going to guarantee style. She also seems to be a lot of a sale buyer, what goes on sale is often very trendy stuff that's not going to age well.
Cute fiancee though, wonder how he is going ro marry her knowing her spending habits. Is he not worried about the future family financials?
@27:32 ..."if it's near my size.." are you NUTS lady??! Buying something on sale that *MIGHT fit??* Lunacy!! She's lost her mind completely!
@@Portia1416 Is he a 'life coach' or similar? Knowing he isn't a qualified therapist answers a lot of my questions.
I will leave someone like this.
No future at all.
No holidays No nothing.
Dont even think there's food and happy times in the future.
HOW THE HELL do you get a Credit with that with 800 month?!!
Samuel Coe There are financial regulations in place now to stop this happening . 20 years ago you could get ridiculous amounts of credit very easily
Irresponsible consumer debt was a major contributing factor to the GFC.
Run, Gavin. RUN!
It’s only gonna get worse and you know what I mean.
wont eat leftover pizza because its HARD? does she not know how a grill works? sandwich press also works well for pizza. Pizza is one of the most re-heatable foods in the world!
I’d be pissed off if I was Gavin. Selling the house that he pays the mortgage on? I’m so angry for him!
(Which I think it would, too.)
I hope these two do well in the future. That renegotiated debt was a pure (unearned) gift, though, so I hope she doesn’t waste this chance.
Agree and I'd go further: the details are none of our business really.
She was so irresponsible with her spending. Dreadful.
But I found myself really liking her. I’m watching this years later. I hope all has gone well with her life ( and her partner) x
heya, not sure you’ll see this but her life is pretty great now! married with a daughter, two houses and a good job :)
I don't think there is a deep rooted problem to everyones' spending wildly, some people just do it.
Aquablue 125 Exactly right
There is always a reason, usually avoidance.
Hush, you will make Benjamin sad.
Most of the times the problem is that they never had to deal with the consequences of their choices and the new generation is creating a whole new version of these people, not showing their children how to be responsible and having respect for anything. Worst thing, the bank let her off of the rest, no lesson's learned again for her.
Yes its called adultg, taking responsability, hvg control....
I love this. Can you also find Bank of Mum and Dad?
Cheap gym, meal prep, entertain at home and get Gail from Til Debt Do Us Part in
I Love Gail from Til Debt Do Us Part!!😀
Why is she on her fourth car?
Without a license!!
Her BF needed 1.. or 4 😂😂
To be honest this is still one of the biggest things that keeps people financially poor.
I wonder if she regretted putting the house up for sale. Prices definitely haven't been the same since.
Is no one going to mention how strange this therapist seemed?
Ok but was she allowed her high end makeup back? Because that’s pointless, she’s already bought it, so may as well let her use what she’s already spent. I understand introducing her to drugstore makeup, but that’s such a waste of makeup if they just throw it away.
Who on earth has let somebody borrow 41k on an £800 a month wage ??? Lol
This is pretty much why the GFC happened.
Early 2000s! Very different time and regard towards money.
Adjusted for inflation, £52000 is worth about £78000 in 2020. That’s assuming this was filmed 15 years ago.
She’s seems like a lovely girl but just lost her way. I read the other comments and I am glad she is doing good now.
Me too. For some reason I felt involved in this show and wanted her to win so much!
I now understand why they all want to marry a man with money, pity for her fiancé he is digging his own grave
195 pound shoes when she makes 800 monthly. Go ahead and spend 24% of your income on a single pair of shoes. Poor girl. She seriously needs some help.
"Kristen" dior 😂
Thanks for this! Love the series. Poor kid probably abused by narcissistic mother...something very dark going on. Felt the most uneasy about the sub text of this girl than any other spendaholic in the series.
Christina Burton Ok Benjamin
Yes but we don't have the right to go there. She has a right to privacy and for the purposes of the episode she revealed enough and learned hard lessons. It's great that she has a loving and supportive partner and friends.
And everything needs to have logo visible 👍
You can buy a lot of luxury stuffs, but you can t buy elegance
