He was trying to get her to look at the big picture: with that many dogs can she afford to do that for each one? The answer is no, because she has too many. You simply can't afford to give them that level of care when you have too many and you are in that much debt. He was trying to get her to see that having that many dogs was too much, not that she should withhold care.

      @greenkitty82 4 года назад +10

Yes I agree. Would they have said that if it had been one of her children who was sick? My pets are family to me but what Lorna isn't doing is thinking about the money she would need to use incase something happened to them. We always make sure money is on the side for the animals if something goes wrong, even if we had to go without for a while. It's foolish to have the responsibility of pets but not have the funds to pay for them. That would be my immediate thought instead of racking up constant debt.

The woman makes £900 a month and has 18 dogs plus 2 children, a home to run and bills to pay. What do you expect? It's her fault. The therapist is just trying to save her from completely falling under. I think there should be tougher penalties for animal hoarders and irresponsible pet owners, such as a ban from owning animals. Animal hoarding and irresponsible pet owners have a huge impact on humanity not to mention the animals themselves. There are currently more strays on the planet than owned pets and the tax payer in the UK has to foot the bill to house abandoned dogs and cats in kennels and many end up being killed. In some countries animals roam the streets attacking people and giving people rabies and leishmaniasis, all because of idiots like this woman. Some people I guess just see it as a necessity to have pets regardless of the situation and that's the problem.

I assume that these five weeks that are spent on correcting people's behavior are quite intense for the participants. And I also agree on the courage of sharing personal stuff in national TV, some of the participants actually do not agree on this, in some other episodes this is done mostly privately. The majority of pet owners would not pay an arm and a leg to save a pet. What that means depends on the owner, but if you e.g. go to a middle-class dog owner, and ask them if they'd spend 50 000£ to save the dog, 99% would say no. That wasn't the situation here, the lady in the show could take debt to pay for the dog's treatment and the sum wasn't particularly large, but saying stuff like "the love you have for your dog is unconditional" as if most pet owners would do anything for their pet is bullshit

It's entirely this woman's fault and you should blame her for choosing to own so many animals on such a low income. If she pays for that dog's veteranarian bills and loses her home as a result not only will she suffer but her children will to. Her children have to come first and so does her having a roof over her head. You shouldn't be blaming the therapists for this. They are just trying to save her from complete financial ruin. No doubt those dogs are inevitably going to end up someone else's responsibility anyhow. She can't continue to care for 18 animals on the income she has.

I agree. My dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 15. Everyone told me to put him down. I didn't. He was finally put down at 18 but for the 3 years after the diagnoses, he was a happy dog, no pain, still doing everything he was before diagnoses because I made sure he was taken care of. When he was 18, I knew he had enough as within 24 hours his health went downhill and his eyes told me he had enough. I then called the vet to the house to put him to sleep.
I also had a house rabbit who had the age of 1 was diagnosed with a genetic condition. They said he wouldnt live much longer and to put him to sleep. His meds cost me £150 a month but he died at the age of 5. Again being happy and going downhill with hours. I still dont regret spending the money , time and effort to let them live as long as they could.

I guess the rules must be different in the UK, but in the US in most cities you are not even allowed to have more than three dogs even if you have your own house. This would be considered animal hoarding. Even if she feeds and houses them, 18 dogs is waaay too many to responsibly be able to love and care for properly.

I spent a fortune on tests xrays special diet for my dog. Worth it. I too love clothes but I've never been in much debt as it scares me too much. I have tips on how to cut down on clothes buying, some of which are already known as good advice.
Don't buy it there and then unless it is something you need, and/or a really good bargain and you love it and would wear it a lot/keep it a long time for those special occasions. It's better to wait at least until the next day or one week if possible. You may miss out but have the satisfaction of keeping the cash. Be prepared to take things back, even bargains.
Don't clutter up your space. It's amazing how tatty your house/room looks with all this 'stuff' and gets in the way of cleaning and sorting. Look through interiors to inspire you to get rid of things you don't use and make your home nicer.
Lorna is creative and has skills to alter and remake clothes she already has. A dress into a skirt and top, alter trousers and other clothes, customise, make her children unique things. This will also keep her busy and away from the shops. Also, I find looking at top designer collections inspires me, but also puts me off shopping as the high street versions are generally not as beautiful and a bit dull. Have high standards in quality and materials.
Look at designer collections and try to emulate looks you like, but on a budget. If you have good colour sense and know what style suits you and your life, this is easily done. Try to buy several items that you can mix and match in one season. These are your go too's. Then find other items you already have that go with them or contrast when you have more time.
Lorna should keep all her jewellery as what she doesn't wear will come back round (like now dainty gold jewellery has been in but statement earrings are coming back, and big necklaces0. If you don't like it now, use beads and necklaces to customise other clothes. It's easy to sew on most beads, and makes an old item look 'designery'. Keep brooches, they make good clips to pull in garments. Keep beaded bags, they used to be cheaply found but now are expensive. Fashion is only reinventing itself now, with prices ever rising. Just have a storage space if you can, and pack things away so when you take them out, they feel new.
Nowadays, we know a lot more about sustainability, so don't buy so much and look at the material, and where it is made. This hones down a lot what you buy. Look for quality,, breathable fabrics that will wash and last well.
Wash delicate or loved items by hand. Don't stick them in the dryer, halves their life.
Sell what you haven't worn in a season, or give it to charity. Use the money for a fund to buy better quality items when you see them in the future.
Be a good example to the kids and don't get in debt. Teach them and be an example for money management. The future is bleak for them, don't teach them to love 'stuff', teach them to shop carefully, save money and care for the planet and environment.

I am actually quite surprised how compassionate and positive these comments are in regards to this particular episode. Especially since she is choosing to be so irresponsible and have so many dogs in that crowded space (it is not okay to do that to animals/is rather selfish to have them if you can't provide basic needs) and also has two children to look after. I do however commend her for standing her ground with the therapist about saving her dog no matter what. It seems she enjoys being a 'professional student'/ using her parents for money. I know the type. They are always in school because the idea of work of any kind seems to scare them. Imagine being content to bring in $988 for a household of three and a whole bunch of pets.
It seems like a bunch of coddling going on since she has a 'cool style and personality'. It must be nice to get a pass for reckless behavior due to such shallow reasons.

Sheesh. I don’t even have kids and I know that once you become a parent, you don’t get to do whatever you want and when you want anymore. That includes spending and buying yourself things you want, not NEED.
You want a $75 pair of shoes? Too bad, your kids need new shoes because they’re growing. It’s plain irresponsible to rack up that much debt on non-necessities when you have two kids to house, clothe and feed.

How about making sure the bills are paid, kids are clothed properly and fed, THEN save for those boots? Being a mom doesn't mean you have to completely neglect your wants and needs. There's a balance to life.

Why are they so upset with her trying to help her dog feel better and have a great quality of life?? Like I get having over 10 dogs is crazy, but the dog was sick and was able to save her dog. Ben pisses me off with his attitude towards the dogs. I have a dog myself who has saved me thru one of the roughest times of my life and if someone had even hinted at putting him down for something that can be fixed, I would be angry and crying.

These people were disgusting in relation to the vet bill for her puppy. That's what it is to have a pet, sometimes unexpected things happen and you have your budget blown to save a life if you haven't already put money aside for it. Some people are able to let go of a pet if they can't afford treatment but so many others will happily go into debt to save them. A gross lack of compassion from these hosts.

    • @vanderbam2741

Well it is pretty stupid to go into significant debt because of a pet. Ideally people wouldn't be getting animals in the first place without good solid incomes...

I guess I got a different feel from the creepy guy. I think his goal was more to push her to her limit than to say she should put the dog down. That and to actually take a moment to figure out a different solution for a situation that really has no alternatives.

I have a major issue with this woman even suggesting that she rent out one of her rooms. Does she realize the statistics of the dangers she would be putting her children in bringing a stranger into their living quarters??? The chances of her daughter being molested rises exponentially if it is a male and her son could be exposed if is a female. Then you have to consider if they use drugs and once they are living there you just can't kick them out even if they don't pay their rent. You have to go through an eviction process which another story altogether.

A dog is a dog...if someone's home or family is going neglected because the money for expensive vet treatment isn't there, a decision will need to be made. Ideally people wouldn't get themselves into these silly situations with pets anyway without a really good income. In my experience a lot of peoplewho are terrible with money get themselves pets and think they are saints for paying $5000 vet bills 🙄

@@vanderbam2741what do you mean a dog is a dog? For many people a dog is a lifeline, especially if they don't have children. If you were to count up how much the average parent spends on one child compared to a dog, I think you'll find there's a huge difference.
Children are spoiled, entitled, selfish, rude brats most of the time. I know, because I've taught so many of them.
Give me a dog anytime. They love you unconditionally and are truly loyal. If we have to take them to the vets, we don't feel like marters, we just want them to get better.
      I despise people like you!
