Went no contact with both my parents because my Dad never wanted kids and wished he never had me. My Mom wants me to be a stay at home nurse for her for free and consistently oversteps my boundaries. Tried family therapy and she couldn’t even make it past 1 session. If your parents rely on you as an adult child to put all of your life goals to the side to cater to their interests; they never really cared to unconditionally love you. Acting like we didn’t try is BS and these parents know it.

This really speaks to how generational trauma is entrenched in our society and how common toxic or abusive families are. I'd say childhood trauma is the main cause of all the problems in the world. Older generations will complain that we are too sensitive for talking about it, but seriously, this is why everything is messed up.

I was no contact for years but due to a disability I was forced back into my moms house. I have told her countless times that the way she treats me and acts (and I give specific examples) will cause me to go no contact again when I’m on my own. She said that is my choice and continues to be abusive. She knows how I feel and simply doesn’t care. Shows that her actions aren’t about love (like she claims), but about control

I’m so sorry that you had to go back into that environment. I hope your stay is short and you can move back out quickly 💕💕💕

If my parents got sober and went to therapy, I'd forgive them. It hasn't crossed their minds to try it. After I cut them off, they also continued to bully my sister. They need to apologize to her more than to me.

Nice and interesting video! Keep up the work. Coming from a kid who got hit to "learn" hoping some day will end this approach of children being "disciplined".

Thank you so much and very much agree. We can only pay it forward and do our best for the next generation.

As a trans man with evangelical Christian parents, it's been very difficult to figure out a way to set boundaries with family. They still refuse to call me by my legal name despite me communicating that deadnaming and misgendering is extremely painful and not something I can continue to tolerate. I eventually told them that I am not going to respond to messages where they refer to me by my deadname. I haven't heard from them since. It's hard, but it's good.

I promise it’s been harder for them than you. Having a child with severe mental health issues who harms themselves and mutilates their body must be very painful for them.

@@MP-ry5zr I’m actually doing much better mentally and physically than I was pre-transition! I was suicidal for years and couldn’t envision a future for myself before I medically and legally transitioned. It’s impossible to judge someone’s well-being based on one comment on a video, but I appreciate the concern. My found family is much stronger and more supportive than my blood one and I’m in a much healthier and happier place now, with the boundaries I’ve set, than I ever was before.

@@mizzenmax I appreciate your level headed response. I invite you to look up and listen to what Scott Newgent, a afab trans man that has been transitioned for years, who as far as I am aware is not a detransitioner, has to say about what the process of medical transition has done to his life and health

@@MP-ry5zr I'm familiar with Scott Newgent! I've heard him talk about his story and experience and have a lot of sympathy for the situation that he's in. However, I can only speak for my own experiences, his are his own. I know that if I hadn't transitioned, I wouldn't be here today. I've only experienced euphoria and relief as a result of medically transitioning. As far as my memory serves, Scott also agrees that the people who need transition should be allowed to. (RUclips wasn't showing my comment the first time, trying again?)

@@MP-ry5zr I've tried a few times to recommend a specific channel for more info on debunking trans misinformation, but YT doesn't seem to let those comments go through. Hmm.
Edit: Let's try this, the title is "Calmly Destroying Christian Apologists with Science for an Hour" from Genetically Modified Skeptic (the title is a bit inflammatory for my tastes but the actual content is very science-backed and evidence based, with supporting studies linked in the description.)

Went no contact with both parents. They only reach out when they want money. One even accused me of calling cps on them about my little sister (and still believes it to be true). There was a point when I probably would’ve forgiven them had they apologized but I’m not so sure anymore. They won’t be at my wedding, they won’t meet their grandchildren and that’s perfectly okay with me.

I listened up until 2:17, this is BS, from my expirience parents that I know are scared to push away their kids, nobody takes them for granted. However, kids do. I've seen countless times as kids lose their shit because of an argument with thier parents, and act as if the parent never did nothing for them.

It probably because you’re only viewing the tipping point. And not all the mistreatment and disrespect from the parents side that went unaddressed and ignored, that got brought out in that one instance from the child. And just because parents “did nice things” that doesn’t mean that bad things they did to their kid doesn’t matter.

    • @SillyBillyWilly-hi7ky
      @SillyBillyWilly-hi7ky Месяц назад +3

The parents did something to make the kid excommunicate them, usually what they did is mental and/or physical abuse. And you act like providing basic needs entitles parents to tie down their kids in toxic and
      abusive households and relationships.

not sure whether i'm glad you've never met abused children in your life, or sorry for all the abused children you met whose abuse was overlooked.
