Olympics "Body Positivity" Gives Me the Ick...#eliteathletes
In the top echelon of sports, every part of the body - every muscle - has to be optimized for performance, and athletes learn to scrutinize and critic their bodies with hypervigilance from an early age... Issues with body image are a natural outcome of this phenomenon, and yet the athletes that we see on TV put on a blinding smile and rarely surface their struggles to the rest of the world. Now, we're also asking them to keep that smile on as we place them on a pedestal for health and happiness. What about all of the athletes who struggle with disorders? With chronic pain and extreme training regimens? Elite athletes are alluring role-models, but blind "body positivity" may actually be th...

    Went no contact with both parents. They only reach out when they want money. One even accused me of calling cps on them about my little sister (and still believes it to be true). There was a point when I probably would’ve forgiven them had they apologized but I’m not so sure anymore. They won’t be at my wedding, they won’t meet their grandchildren and that’s perfectly okay with me.

    I was no contact for years but due to a disability I was forced back into my moms house. I have told her countless times that the way she treats me and acts (and I give specific examples) will cause me to go no contact again when I’m on my own. She said that is my choice and continues to be abusive. She knows how I feel and simply doesn’t care. Shows that her actions aren’t about love (like she claims), but about control

    This really speaks to how generational trauma is entrenched in our society and how common toxic or abusive families are. I'd say childhood trauma is the main cause of all the problems in the world. Older generations will complain that we are too sensitive for talking about it, but seriously, this is why everything is messed up.

    As a trans man with evangelical Christian parents, it's been very difficult to figure out a way to set boundaries with family. They still refuse to call me by my legal name despite me communicating that deadnaming and misgendering is extremely painful and not something I can continue to tolerate. I eventually told them that I am not going to respond to messages where they refer to me by my deadname. I haven't heard from them since. It's hard, but it's good.

      @@MP-ry5zr I’m actually doing much better mentally and physically than I was pre-transition! I was suicidal for years and couldn’t envision a future for myself before I medically and legally transitioned. It’s impossible to judge someone’s well-being based on one comment on a video, but I appreciate the concern. My found family is much stronger and more supportive than my blood one and I’m in a much healthier and happier place now, with the boundaries I’ve set, than I ever was before.

      @@mizzenmax I appreciate your level headed response. I invite you to look up and listen to what Scott Newgent, a afab trans man that has been transitioned for years, who as far as I am aware is not a detransitioner, has to say about what the process of medical transition has done to his life and health

    • @mizzenmax
      @mizzenmax 16 дней назад

      @@MP-ry5zr I'm familiar with Scott Newgent! I've heard him talk about his story and experience and have a lot of sympathy for the situation that he's in. However, I can only speak for my own experiences, his are his own. I know that if I hadn't transitioned, I wouldn't be here today. I've only experienced euphoria and relief as a result of medically transitioning. As far as my memory serves, Scott also agrees that the people who need transition should be allowed to. If my parents got sober and went to therapy, I'd forgive them. It hasn't crossed their minds to try it. After I cut them off, they also continued to bully my sister. They need to apologize to her more than to me.

  • @Bubblies005

    Went no contact with both my parents because my Dad never wanted kids and wished he never had me. My Mom wants me to be a stay at home nurse for her for free and consistently oversteps my boundaries. Tried family therapy and she couldn’t even make it past 1 session. If your parents rely on you as an adult child to put all of your life goals to the side to cater to their interests; they never really cared to unconditionally love you. Acting like we didn’t try is BS and these parents know it.

      Thank you for your note! It’s wild how things are so cyclical; we’ve had so many school reforms, mandatory kindergarten policies, etc, ultimately for us to start returning to older methods of learning like unstructured play and multi-age cohorts! I love seeing kids embrace play as a critical form of learning!

    I went to 43&3 based on LMP with my last baby/42wks based on dating scan. Currently 41&6 with my 5th baby based on LMP or 40&2 based on dating scan. Not too worried about it. She will come at some point 😊🎉 My oldest son is quite impatient with it though and says "She's never going to come!" 😂 With my last baby I did do a castor oil/peanut butter/protein smoothie under my midwives care and she did come quickly and my labor was only 1hr. I risked out of their care if she didn't come by 42w. It worked but she was my 4th baby and it is proven to be more effective the more children you have had, that is also true for pumping to induce labor, it is more effective the more children you have had. I do try to do exercises to keep baby in a good position, but otherwise I try not to stress too much.

    As someone who was homeschooled all growing up, there are major pros and cons to any educational method. Many of the concerns that people have with homeschool still exist in the public school system... For instance, one of the biggest concerns I hear is that there is little to no regulations for homeschoolers, and people rarely check in to make sure that the children are actually being educated and aren't being abused. Well, a lot of public school children fall through the cracks of the system and are abused at home/not actually being educated at school. My own best friend was public schooled, and nobody said anything when she was coming to school with open wounds... No teachers, no counselors, nobody. Her parents were only investigated by DCFS AFTER she was kicked out at 18 years old. Her parents had connections with the DCFS in her area though, so nothing was done despite the evidence that they were unfit parents.

      It's so true, there will always be kids falling through the cracks. When I was making this video, I saw a number of videos about kids who did not appreciate being homeschooled. It's a game of access to resources, and many homeschools in America take place in super rural, religious, disconnected places :/

      I agree - it's so interesting to learn about different styles/theories of teaching & schooling. Nowadays, with private school tuition also out of control, it's just one more reason to invest that same money into homeschooling or "privately educating" at home.

    You’re right about the general meaning of the video, although it’s bad to make fun of people and of what they like, if they like some activities that make them happy, why making fun of them or what they like to do? It’s ok to expose the general elitism and “achieving society” we live in, but making fun of the ones who do these things isn’t good imo.
