I Quit my MBA... Why I'm Taking the Hit

Has an MBA ever crossed your mind? I did the research and decided it was for me. I took the GRE, got the recommendations, found partial funding, and joined! But it made me think deeper about myself than I had done before.

I did the same thing, been in investment accounting for over 15 years and wanted to get my MBA for “personal growth” but it turned out to be a bad idea and frankly a waste of time. I’m trying for the CFA instead since it’s more tailored to my field and even if I don’t pass I’ll have a lot of valuable knowledge that will further help me on the job. The MBA felt very broad to me and was a huge investment in time and money, not worth getting into unless you know how to leverage it, just my opinion. Despite the 900 hours you need to put into studying for the CFA it seems like it’s more rewarding if you are in finance.

Hi Ella! I had that same impression as well. I got the feeling that the biggest purpose of the MBA was networking, but in today's world, many people are just a LInkedIn message or a common friend away. After that it's just assigned readings & filling up your time. It's unfortunate but comforting to hear that you had a similar experience :/ so far no regrets from quitting. Good luck on the CFA!! It's 3 intense sprints, and then done!

Hobbies are a bit up in the air because we're in the process of moving! Pre-Covid I was doing Aerials & Salsa. Investing in friends & family :) How about you? What are yours?
