I am also a painting contractor. When I'm painting doors. I like to paint the side of the door, where the hinges screw in. The hinge side I paint the outside door color, and the inside edge where the handle striker goes i paint the inside door color.

I was wondering about paint the white vinyl posts on either side of the side light and door . you paint those?
I have a door to paint that did have a nice paint job but got washed with bleach and water that faded it. If it was painted with oil based do i have to primer again or can i just give it another coat to fix it? Not sure if its latex or oil based yet.
Hi Chris, thanks and the sprayer gives you a nice even finish. Do you ever jus use a brush and roller on a door? Usually I do and I don't do as much masking.

Chris, do you have to prime a fiberglass door before painting. What type or brand of primer/paint do you recommend for a fiberglass door? I wish you were in Tn, I'd hire you to do mine!
Sprayed the first door standing up with duration with 440 and 312 tip and Rx 80 gun. Only problem was I had to clear the gun 3 or 4 times. Then sprayed the next door with Solo. Again had to clear the gun several times but I also had too much paint on the door and had to roll it right away. My question is why is the gun needing to be cleared. ( I did have to turn the pressure all the way up) Filters were new. Secondly why did the solo run? Do I need to wait 15 to 20 minutes after doing the edges and angles ? Is it the type of paint duration vs solo or am I not moving the gun fast enough. The second doors with solo were in the shade but temperatures were 90 degrees
Hi mate hope your well, was just wondering why sometimes paint the doors on and sometimes they take them off? What’s the reason is there certain doors that need to be taken off
DTM primer is used even on a door that’s already painted? Is this a bonding primer to just ensure adhesion to the previous paint?
Do you spray your front doors first and then back mask or do you paint it last?

Black must be a popular color in Idaho for front doors. They look surprisingly great. Here in Austin TX everyone is wanting loud crazy bright colors for the front doors. They say it looks more inviting or something. Personally I wouldnt want my front door inviting lol. Maybe I should try black for our door. Ive done all kinds of colors like school bus yellow. Safety orange. Fire truck red. And a lot of blue greens like seafoam and aquas.

Is that exterior paint your using a water based paint?
What about masking th vinyl door jamb on the front . Or do you just wipe the paint. Aren't you worried about over spray on the vinyl siding

So with the edge that was still red (the inside that you see when the door is open) do you just brush that black later on or leave it red??

be careful putting your 5 in 1 on your side pant leg pocket sticking up. my stepdad used to keep his there until he slit the top of his hand on the blade and had to get like 12 stitches. your videos are great btw.
That hinge edge should be the exterior color. Door swings in. That's the edge you'll see when you open the door from the outside. Should match the exterior color no? Just my 2 cents.
When the door is open whatever edge is exposed it should be painted that color
Home Improvement How To's correct, but when you taped off the hinge you stated that it was remaining the inside color. Just calling you on what you said, no harm meant.
how do you get the interior doors to stand up on their own?
MARIO FORESTA you need at least 2 doors but you can daisy chain more put them on an angle from each other kind of like this \ / and screw a scrap 1×2 or a paint stirrer on the tops to brace them together
Dude just take the door handle and deadbolt off. Then the homeowner can change the handle in the future and won’t have lines

Yes you are correct I was definitely thinking the same thing. And I have had my own business for many years
yea do it by hand at the end and finish it off with a foam mini roller to get the spray effect

@@Idahopainter I think it's more about preference but personally I think it looks odd having the hinge side a different color than the outside, especially if the colors clash.
Most manufacturers including the one I work for paint the edges to suit the inside, think it’s viewed as the inside of the door even though it’s viewed from the outside.

Just brush paint that door,. No taping, no cleaning the sprayer, 20min and done!
Not the same finish at all some customers prefer a fine finish door👍

why spray when you could paint it in 20 min with a brush and roller...to much masking
jimmy davila - depends on the look you are going for in the door. Spraying leaves a fine finish. Like it came from a manufacturer. That is a look that is very hard to get with a brush and roller, even if you use a self settling paint with a latex extender.
Alex Jackman--- not really if you know how to paint..I've been doing this for 33yrs now..but if the door was originally sprayed and you roll it and brush it will look sprayed it's not that hard...but if you want to be a production painter then by all means spray it everything....
i can stack on way more paint with my airless then you do dragging it with your brush or roller....
You suffer from the bad time judgement bug that plagues alot if us painters. Your not going to be anywhere near finished with that door and the two sides in an hour and a half let alone 20 min. Your gonna brush and roll all that 2 possibly 3 coats 100%

I own a painting company and this was hard to watch. That is NOT how you spray a door. You never engage your trigger on the face of the door. You need to work on trigger control.
