I think you should paint the trim around the door glass the same color as the handle. The darker color matches the window and will blend in instead of competing with the glass.

One tip I learned in the almost 40 Years of having a home is you can tape a plastic tablecloths from the dollar store or a shower curtain or even a blanket tape it over the frame or the outside of the house and that way you can keep the bugs and heat out of the house

GrandmaSewHappy Homestead I learned to use $ store plastic table cloths for many many projects. I use it for gardening under the cardboard then compost or rock. No weeds. The cheap table cloths are good drop cloths...and so much more.

Plastic doesn’t allow it to drain tho

    • @grandmasewhappyhomestead187
      @grandmasewhappyhomestead187 4 года назад +4

You would just tape the plastic over the door way just while the door was drying. Or you can tape a blanket we did that years ago when I built my house and we were painting and the mosquitoes were so bad and we had no screens on the windows. But we needed to paint the room and we didn't want all the bugs coming through while the other part of the house might have had a window open for ventilation. So we take the blanket over it so I could paint in the one room and not be eaten alive

The white flowers draws in the white frame as a match. At first I thought the same but it keeps the white flowers from seeming off. Pink flowers might have done the same with the pink window, but the new one goes with the light fixture just right.

What a transformation! I really love how the door pops ♡ That new window insert ties everything together so well! :) The only suggestion I have would be to maybe paint the frame of the insert the same color as the door (like you had done originally) because it's the only thing that's white if you don't count the flowers, it just seems a tad out of place with your color scheme (maybe it's just me) Either way this was a great video!

Some of those vinyl pieces say not to paint over, and some are okay to paint as long as it's not a dark color. Something about the paint absorbing heat from sun and distorting the vinyl. Haven't figured out exactly what is"too dark" as I want to paint the trim on my mom's door. It bugs me every time I see it 😏

i might be the only one, but i liked the old window much more, it seemed to tie in the wall color of the house to the entry way... also i would have rather put more time in, cleaning the stones. the new window for me looks way cheaper than the old, somehow.

might value old things a bit more...

I have a wood door. I love the wood, but the insert stained glass window is cracked in one spot. I didn't think it could be changed. That'll be something to look into. We have refinished the door, but it could use a bit of sprucing up again, since it's been about 20 years. So many ideas... Thanks for sharing!

I love it, lovely clean lines and very modern ❤️ we have a wooden front door that’s been sealed off as we only use our side door, don’t ask me why but it was like this when I moved in with my fiancé and that was 6 yrs ago. I want to unseal it and paint the door and redo the glass that’s in the center, much like your door. You have inspired me

OMG! I have the exact same front door in dark brown, black door handle and knob. The insert is white ....instead of pink. Loved this video. Your parents are amazing! Thank you:)

Very beautiful, I couldn't figure out what people were saying about the white trim, it looks so nice and clean but I'm also a white color nut 😂 and paint everything white so if you like it, you go girl! Also I SO feel your pain changing the color and having to face the paint store people again.. Then again..🤣 that is so me! Normally they're pretty good about it though! Yay!!! Dad's!! My dad is totally my hero, many a thing would still be broke or have lots of extra tears attached to them if it wasn't for great dad's!!♥️🥰 Great video! Don't let people's opinions get you down, they are just that, opinions!

One of my favorite projects. It looks amazing! Your Dad is a hero for coming to your aid. My Dad used to do that when I was young too. Question: I didn’t see you prime the door before painting. Is it unnecessary? I want to paint mine too but I’m a little nervous. Thanks. P.S. Your skin is gorgeous!

AND, you could've just painted the old light fixture to match the door hardware and put a much brighter LED bulb in it. Makes a big difference. I know you are all about economical makeovers.

🥀🌹Thank you for showing this makeover , and your dad was amazing....However l prefer bolder and brighter colors for doors , l feel it's important to not be afraid of vibrant colors like " Red , Rich Violet , Aqua , even Tangerine , Cheerful colors on an outside door is always brings welcome to the entryway 🙂🌹🥀

It looks awesome BUT i would have painted the white trim. It’s throwing it off a little. Just my opinion. Your Dad is awesome!!!! You did a really good job transforming that doorway. ❤️

Saved $20 on new door hardware.... turns around and spends $200 on new glass lol. Not going to lie, that's pretty much exactly how all of my home improvement projects go, too!

Hi Kristen. :) Your door and entry are lovely. 💙 ...Maybe I missed this...but did you mention if the door was metal or wood? And did you sand and prime first? The last time I did a door makeover for a client, it still only took 2-3 days...but we took the whole door off. Then removed the handle and hinges first, sanded and primed, and then painted. I've used several types of paint in the past, and it usually took quite a bit of prepping to keep the paint on permanently. I'm impressed with your results--especially if the paint adhered well! Thanks.

You could have painted the windows white trim before it was attached to the window slot & it would look better the same blue, as we saw. LOVE LOVE LOVE the new colors!!! Thanks for all of your clever ideas and I enjoy your demeanor, calming yet exciting at the same time. Kudos

Now I see what you all mean about the white frame. Aaahhhh it's so disturbing. Once she paints it, it's going to look beautiful.
Great job. And you're so lucky to have your dad help you out. Thank you Charlie. What a great dad.

I think you painted the glass frame in a followup video, no?
As far as the comment that the chairs should have been planters, I love the chairs, ... maybe they could be a bit smaller. Nonetheless, they make the front door way look homey. Their square shape and color go beautifully. Great job as always.
And, thanks for showing your struggles. Makes the project for us laypeople much more doable. Love your makeovers.

Any recommendations for doing this makeover for a door front that isn't covered with your parents' (Time of year, day, etc.)? I noticed you used a brush versus a spray painter. Was that just a style preference?
Also didn't know you could return paint to Home Depot.

I would never put any glass that you can see through it from outside what is going on inside. Also, "good" for burglaries. Yap, love my privacy. But it's your choice.

Hi! Looks so Fresh! I wonder what it would look like with black window trim instead of white? You could print a picture and color it in.. Also, the gray metal foot step and surround may look good with a touch up. Nice work!!! Great Job Dad!!!

Wouldn’t call this a “budget makeover” with all the different coloured paints, the cost of the glass insert, changing of the wall lamp, new door mat plus new pot and flowers 🤔. Looks good but wouldn’t call it a budget makeover.

WOULD OF loved if u left the old door glass, While jus trim painting around the glass in a pink as well, or if u so badly wanted more of that black u should of saved the money and the hard work by Jus black painting that window trim in black! I would think that u could of tryed that idea first! Thank u for the video, it’s always helpful to see what options might not be worth the trouble or struggle! Again thanks much!
