I feel super lucky to have met the Duke at Huntington Pier. He was there to bless the water. One handshake and his complete concentration on you for one moment in time, was astounding. Very powerful human being. I was also able to shake John Kennedy's hand when I was about 9. Meeting Duke was the greater than meeting the President.

I started surfing in 1965 and all the surfing magazines had articles and pictures of him as well as all the young "upandcomers", like Greg Noll, but just about everybody, everywhere who surfs knows who the "Duke" was.

Celebrated 50 yrs of surfing in 2012 by taking my 9'6" Wardy from the headwaters of Weekie Watchie Springs river (yeah the Mermaids)to
The Gulf (no surf on Fl west coast) --3 miles as the crow flies 8 miles on the river the name is Seminole for Winding Waters. Greg Noll was one of my heroes growing up!! Read all the mags, cut out the pics and pinned em on my bulletin brd. Era is ending, my Wardy, willed, is now being used when the waves are up, here in Wisconsin, on Lake Michigan.
