"Good for a laugh" ?!?!? You're nuts! These guys were pioneers and fearless. People surf with all the past generations of knowledge passed down. These guys riding on less information and worse equipment. Respect
Brah these guys are Hawaiian, Makaha back then was even more guarded and secret. OG watermen that you should respect, and never laugh at. Riding those waves on redwood is absolutely crazy
Did you know if the backwash at makaha was a thing back then? Or is that recent? I've surfed Makaha a lot but I just don't understand the wave's reputation, it's just not that good because of the backwash.
@@RedLineShortFilmsThe backwash has always been there - but that's more of an inside thing. These guys are surfing the outside - "the point". The backwash is just something you have to read and anticipate. The best guys out there just make it look easy... they're waiting for it, to do their turns. When it hits it makes a nice hollow explosion, even on a whitewater.
Narrator has no clue. “At least it’s good for a laugh” and “believe it or not they were the top surfers in the 40s”. These innovators were real men, with balls of steel. 12’ heavy boards, no leashes or suits. Most surfers these days wouldn’t even be able to carry the board to the beach let alone get out back and surf. Respect to these men.
yeah' they got my respect! you like see true watermen's check out kanaka's on their wooden paipo boards shredding water n catching epic-surf. those are true watermens that shred-water for hours not on some surfboards. peace n aloha.
Mute sound for best experience.

I hated the narration, but the video is great, these guys were fearless.
"at least it is good for a laugh" ? Is he kidding us ? Makaha is a place with such power and grace. So much respect for anyone surfing there.
Ik bro. That shit was offensive af. What a dickhead. No respect to guys like Buffalo!
Narrator is such a kook. These guys are out on 12 ft logs charging with no leash. These guy "just trying to hang on" were pioneers.
This narrator is a joke, man! Where did they find this chump? Much respect to these surfers of that time!

the narrator is a kook but the video is awesome and the surfers over there are the ultimate watermen
"Good for a laugh??" Big wave riding is always to be respected
Makaha was the perfect big wave for the old longboards
"Makaha means 'fierce' or 'savage' in Samoan..." SAMOAN?? The language spoken in Hawaii is HAWAIIAN.
yeah' they got my respect! you like see true watermen's check out kanaka's on their wooden paipo boards shredding water n catching epic-surf. those are true watermens that shred-water for hours not on some surfboards. peace n aloha.
Why the condescending narration
Because he's a kook.
I agree what an asshole the narrAtor
i think its buzzy trent surfing and woodty brown, legends
respect...
These guys had balls of titanium!
Makaha is not a Samoan Word Uso...... I mean Kannak...... Wait Haole...
(which Means Forigner. Nothing to do with Color)... FYI
unknown heroes each and every take off
I bet if that narrator found himself sitting out there he wouldn't be laughing then
Hawaiians original surfers
Mahalo!
lets see you go paddle out without a leash there tough guy
nobody had ever done this before.
I haven't worn a leash in years, it's not that crazy everyone does it
I doubt he’d even be able to lift a 12’ board
These were men, not pop out soy boys
It only means fierce
No pulley just arm muscle
A laugh those men are fucking shredding!!
Mākaha is not Samoan its 'Ōlelo Hawai'i. Please do a bit more research when translating foreign language.
Makaha is Hawaiian
baw bag narrator....those guys charging!
narration is lame
thumbs down for the incredible disrespect 🤬👊
a laugh? damn man.
Yeah bruh no one today would charge that on a wood D-fin. Those were MEN
TubeYouScreen I would. I’m 17 but I am dead set on trying to make a my surfing style in the Bruce Brown era of surfing.
Makaha is not Samoan it’s Hawaiian lmao like surfing came from Hawaii
“Good for a laugh…”
How condescending and disrespectful can you get?
The narrator would scream for his mom if he tried surfing makaha in 10ft waves! What a moron, does he think surfing is easy or something?
Such stupid comments during the video. Have a laugh at how they ride? Respect your elders!
Wipeout and never see your board again
Samoan? You mean Hawaiian! Get it straight and do you research. Mahalo for the video tho.
The Commentator is terrible...obviously not a Surfer...he needs to be edited out...
