I lived in Hawaii, (Oahu), in the 60s and a bit of 70's. I saw Duke driving his yellow Rolls Royce around. He usually had breakfast at Top's restaurant. Those were wonderful carefree times.
Doug did pretty well getting up on that 11' board. This was back when just getting a long ride was the whole idea, no tricky stuff involved. Tricks would come later as the boards got shorter. Getting a 1/4 mile ride was the ultimate goal. Great stuff here.
Aha - "Around The World In 80 Minutes". I've wondered what the Hawaiian segment of this movie looked like. 1) I wonder if that really was Doug in the long shot? 2) That's the Royal Hawaiian Girls Glee Club greeting him (with Duke) at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. 3) At the start, he says that Hawaii has Prohibition. At the end, he asks Duke for okolehau (mispronouncing it), which is a type of homebrew Hawaiian liquor which was then illegal.

What a fun video. It is so great seeing the old films. Fairbanks was pretty buff as of course was Duke. Can't wait to see the Waterman documentary.
Love the way the guy gets out of his car. And love the part where Duke asks him if he wants to okolehao - that's white lightning lol.
Awesome. I can watch this again and again, I'll never get bored of it.
Great share, Shirley!
