This is so cool, thanks for uploading! 2:20 is a really great shot, even by todays standards with all our modern cameras. Really gives you a sense of that sickening, heart in your throat feeling of taking off on a big wave.

A self-taught swimmer, Kahanamoku said he learned the crawl stroke by watching the islanders.

Duke Kahanamoku (1890-1968) of Hawaii went to San Francisco in 1913, and using a crawl stroke with a six-beat flutter kick, lowered the 100-yard record to 54.6 seconds.

I can't figure out why people today insist upon spelling Dora's name as "Miki," when Dora himself signed his name as "Mickey Dora" (right there next to Greg Noll's signature) on the Da Cat model surfboard. Did he not know how his own name was spelled?

What?! Duke was over 50 years old when we got into WWII. I don't think they were drafting grandpas.

Dora may had been a cynical prick, but time has shown that he had been right about a few issues-if you know what mean…
