Benita!!! You are an enviable force!!!! I’m so impressed and happy to see someone that isn’t afraid to tackle projects that seem a bit overwhelming! I look forward to watching your progress ❤️
The progress is amazing. It's so great that you are documenting all of this, because in a few years, you will have forgotten how it was at first. I can picture you or your family cooking large vats of apple sauce some time in the future. Who knows? You might launch a new business.
Great progress for just a few days. I'm glad you were able to spend some more time there before winter so you can dream about the renos while it's cold out. Seems so peaceful and cozy.
I enjoyed this video SO MUCH! You reminded me a lot of my mother, who never shied away from hard, messy work and who charged into every project with absolute confidence in herself. I admired that so much in her, and I do in you as well. 💕 Edit, I’m laughing out loud as you uncover that piece of metal fence and talk about learning to weld. My mom actually took a class at a local college that offered “shop classes”.
Oh, Benita, this was such fun to watch. Your many skills and obvious willingness to learn are on full display here. I did chuckle a couple of times including at seeing your outhouse's bling and a door that works. Your strong work ethic (and determination) certainly came through as you hauled that lumber-laden cart to the compost location...then building it from the ground up! I truly appreciate you sharing this evolution as you three uncover the history and possibilities that old homestead holds. Treasure indeed, made even better by your love and care. I'm really looking forward to the next installment before the snow flies and daylight disappears. Take care.
I have a feeling that we haven’t seen anything yet when it comes to your many talents and energy. I can’t wait for the continued improvements you all will be making. It will be lovelier than anyone can imagine. ❤
As we are in the midst of big projects here on our property, I appreciate the frizzy (and still lovely) hair, talk of outhouse inconveniences, and reminders of how much some effort toward organizing reaps rewards during such a large undertaking. You've accomplished so much, one task at a time, and all in collaboration with your family! It is so inspiring ❤
Hi Benita what a fabulous update ! Enjoyed watching & I am amazed at how much you achieved! Praying for peace in my part of the world so much horror & devastation 🇮🇱💔🙏
You are Superwoman! You got so much done in just three days. I must say I was a little concerned when you were up the ladder Big respect to you 💪 🤗 👍 🙏 🇬🇧
Thank you for the update! I especially appreciate the insight on what projects you prioritize. Living in a fixer upper and having so many projects myself, I know it can be daunting and exhausting. Your video reminds me that a well maintained and organized home is not the work of a weekend. Your summer home already seems a wonderful treasure to your family.
I totally get that! There are so many projects that I would love to throw myself into but we really need to prioritize this fall. But that also means I’ll get to do lots of fun stuff come spring !🙌🏻
I enjoyed the outhouse information and was impressed to hear that it is supported and they even gave you a plan for composting. The timing of all the new projects has been perfect.
You'll get lots of advice - whether you want it or not! LOL! I bought a 125-year-old bungalow a few years ago. I was widowed, working full time, and decided to gut it over a two-year period. My experience taught me two important things. First, regardless of a bid on ANYTHING, add at least 20% for "unexpected" costs. With property as old as mine there were always surprises. Second, get three bids for any work. Yes, it's time-consuming but well worth it. Good luck!
I'm super-impressed by your "can do" attitude and methodical approach to restoring this wonderful property. You inspired me to get out my hand saw and replace the the window trim I've been meaning to work on. Thank you for this magnificent update!
The cow at the end was looking at you like "nice to see someone cares about that old place! Good job! If you ever need someone to mow just unlock my gate and I got you" LOL Do you all have any sort of plans for any animals when you've got the space cleared and safe? I imagine you all with a dog at that property! Possibly a couple of chickens running around as well. Not knowing how far away you are though I realize this may not be possible if it's too far for someone to tend to regularly. I will need to go back and watch the last video again to see if you have shown where you are sleeping and how that is setup for now or if you will do that in the future. I loved this video and seeing all the work you 3 have done already! I would love to see a "day" or "weekend" in the life at the Summer House where you show us how you're cooking, where you're sleeping, and how you are keeping things comfortable and cosy while you are in a state of transition! PS I think the original wallpaper artist was both lazy AND didn't read directions. It appears as though they wanted an easy fix. They should have used paint IMO as you can go a lot further with paint per dollar and you don't have to worry about it peeling etc. I like the piece you fixed in the kitchen but that bedroom stuff needs to go! It is so dark and not at all refreshing!!
Thank you, I’ll plan a DITL video for next spring! As for the wallpapers, they’re most likely all going at some point. We plan to do clay daubing instead.
I did! The plumber will prepare or an indoor toilet in case we do want one fine the line but we’ll start off with an incineration toilet first. That way we don’t need to worry about pipes freezing in winter. The “bathroom” will be in the space to the right if the entrance to the house.
I was just so happy watching you, but as a farm girl at heart, really just wanted to be there with you helping with all your chores. Especially would have enjoyed the raking task.
Dear Benita! This is a wonderful video that I really enjoyed so much! You are so skilled and powerful ! ❤ I am sure the results will be amazing as it already looks wonderful! You, Wille and Victoria seem to be such a great team! I love the Smeg fridge and the wooden table! Have a nice week and don’t forget to rest! And watch out on this high ladder!! Cheers from Iris from southwest Germany!🌸🌞🤩🙋♀️

The Smeg fridge looks as if it came with the house. I hope there's a positive result with your chimney & stove issues. A very lucky sign finding the red currant bush and an apple tree. Wow, the difference a fresh cut lawn makes. Although your Spring is quite a while away, you and the young ones have done great so far. 🛠️🚜🍎🌳
You have curly hair! It looks so cute! Have you ever watched one of those "I didn't know I had curly hair" videos? They changed my life and thoughts on my hair. Your cabin is a dream! ❤
That root cellar rock work made me wonder how on earth they ever did things like that with rock arched ceiling and it appeared to have no mortar/cement/glue! So scary and impressive that people used to do things like this and it stands so many years later!!
OMG! Can we just take a minute to talk about that root cellar?! The suspense was like when they were going to open Al Capone's vault on tv. (ahem....so I heard... ;). WOW! What a beautiful work of art it turned out to be. As someone has been following you since before the divorce, I want to say how awesome it is to see you in your element at this summer house. You can feel the joy emanating off of you! Also, you are beautiful, fuzzy hair and all! Hurray for you, Wille, and Victoria!
Wonderfully relaxing to watch you do some projects around the cottage. The root cellar sure needs a bit of work. I see bins there. You can store root vegetables and apples in trays of sand in there. They will last for months. I love your work jeans! I could use a pair. Where did you get them please?
Thank you! Yes, down the line we hope to store some goodies down there. This year mostly just bottled water, paint etc that can’t freeze. My pants are from floramanufaktur.com/
Benita, as we say in Scotland, you are made of girders!👏I now feel inspired to tackle some jobs at home instead of waiting on my husband (no ladders though!)💖

You adapt to everything, urban or rural, you are "all terrain" ( we say in spanish).😄.Waiting again for your next video. Lots of greetings from Spain.

Your house is coming along, and your property is beautiful. When you were working on the roof, I imagined colorful flowers in beds right in front t of the wi down on both sides of the little porch. Thank you for sharing your update.
This is a beautiful summer home, and it must feel very gratifying to bring it back to a beautiful state and clean it up and get it all organized. It is so sad when buildings and the yards around them become derelict. It's nice how you and Wille and Victoria work so nicely together. I love that piece of fence that you found... can't wait to see what you do with it!
Wow you have a lot of skills Benita. Even replacing roof tiles. What a satisfying feeling to see the projects completed. I love your summer house, and so happy you are filming there.

What a great project! Someone may have already asked this, but where are your super work trousers with the external pocket from? They look so practical as well as being nice looking! Thanks Benita!
Can’t believe how much you achieved on your own, it will be great to see the little root cellar in action. Love your work jeans, where can I get a pair please? ❤🇮🇪🙏
This is amazing!! From the stone lined cavern under the barn to the wonderful iron fence section you found searching for tiles... Wonderful!! Inspo for a video on welding, right? 💚💚💚
Awesome, awesome, awesome!! Loved how you were able to accomplish so much in such a short time!!! Can't wait to see how beautiful the property looks when you're done!!!
So enjoying seeing this. You are so skilled and brave it’s wonderful to see. I wish could be like that. You’re an inspiration. The house is going to be beautiful with all of you working on it with such care 😊
I love watching all the progress on your new Summer home Benita! I’m dying to see it next Spring when the rewiring has been done and you have running water. Do you plan on fitting a new bathroom? It will be such a peaceful retreat when it’s all done xx
I’m so happy you enjoyed the update! We will most likely get an incineration toilet inside. That way we don’t need to worry about pipes freezing when we’re not there.
Its so good to know how handy you are. You did so much! The house is looking so much better already. Cant wait for the next update on your summer house.😊
Really love what you are doing. I live in Canada. Also wondering where you get your hardware? It is difficult to get nice quality hardware in Canada. Also, I love your pants? Did you make the patches and hip pockets yourself or did you buy them somewhere? They look so useful for real life work.
I haven't caught up with all your improvements and you may have done this, but I made rain barrels to catch the roof water for non-drinking use. These are filled directly by the downspouts at the ends of roof gutters. I have a steel roof and the water is really clean for garden use.
Benita, I’m so impressed with your talents, energy and skills and how you went up that ladder like it’s nothing! Your home and the cluster of out buildings reminds me so much of where I spent my summers in Northern Ontario, Canada. It was an old abandoned logging village that had been built by Finnish people. The construction was so like these buildings, down to the root cellar, the well, the outhouse,❤
you can make a non-toxic furniture/floor wax by melting (over a double-boiler) soy wax or beeswax and linseed oil and mineral spirits. The wax in the mixture helps keep the oil from evaporating. I did a old oak floor with this (after cleaning off spilled paint and dirt) and it came up gorgeous. The double boiler pan arrangement is CRUCIAL (so the wax is not in a container that it is driectly in contact with a heat source, as (beeswax at least) has a low flash point.

Wow, it's shaping up very quickly! May you and your family make loads of beautiful memories there. ♥
I feel we will!
Absolutely wonderful! It’s so charming and it must feel good to get back to basics in some ways. I’m so impressed by everything you accomplished!
It feels so good being there even without running water and an outhouse. I just love it!
I had to laugh when you said Learn to weld. I’m sure you already are looking for some training. Your energy is epic. This all so exciting.
This is probably your best video yet. love seeing the progress on your house

Awesome, awesome, awesome!! Loved how you were able to accomplish so much in such a short time!!! Can't wait to see how beautiful the property looks when you're done!!!
Thank you! I doubt we’ll ever be “done” done but we’ll make progress for sure!
Going into the root cellar with you felt like walking into the pages of a Gothic novel 😂😂!!
Hahaha! It was quite the experience!
Your new summer home is really coming along! Curios as to what Bonus thinks about it!
It is! Trying to figure out the best way to introduce him to it!

Those jeans are amazing!
I’ve had them for over a decade and they’ve held up really well. They’re from floramanufaktur.com/
So enjoying seeing this. You are so skilled and brave it’s wonderful to see. I wish could be like that. You’re an inspiration. The house is going to be beautiful with all of you working on it with such care 😊
I’m so happy you enjoyed it!
The 3 of you are making progress, you all must be thrilled.
All three of us wish we could spend more time there and that winter wasn’t approaching so quickly 😅
So many great improvements. and love the utility pants
What fun to watch this! I'm looking forward to spring!
I’m so happy you liked the update!
Wow! You are incredible! Beautiful house 😊
So much done already! Looking great.
Thank you so much!
What a lovely house & area! Such an inspiring video. Nice to see a green lawn, mine has turned white ❄️
It really is! Not long now until we also get snow!
Wow! You are amazing! Your summer home is really beautiful 💕
Aww, thank you! And yes, it’s a gem!
Its so good to know how handy you are. You did so much! The house is looking so much better already. Cant wait for the next update on your summer house.😊
I’ve worked on a couple of houses before and learned so much from that😅
Ive watched Benita work at her other homes, she was hands on, very hardworking. Never stopped.
Really love what you are doing. I live in Canada. Also wondering where you get your hardware? It is difficult to get nice quality hardware in Canada. Also, I love your pants? Did you make the patches and hip pockets yourself or did you buy them somewhere? They look so useful for real life work.
I get hardware in local shops specializing in restoration. The pants are gardening pants from a local brand, Flora Manufaktur.
I like your curls. Lots of work done and to be done.
So many projects but I don’t really see it as work I see it as enjoyment!
Benita, you are amazing! I’m in awe.
Thank you so much!😊
You are an inspiration! I love seeing all the things you are doing at the country house. How nice it will be to spend time there with your son!
I’m so excited for when we do get to spend more time there together!
I haven't caught up with all your improvements and you may have done this, but I made rain barrels to catch the roof water for non-drinking use. These are filled directly by the downspouts at the ends of roof gutters. I have a steel roof and the water is really clean for garden use.
It’s on our to do list!
Thank you! I can’t wait to go back in spring!
you can make a non-toxic furniture/floor wax by melting (over a double-boiler) soy wax or beeswax and linseed oil and mineral spirits.
We don’t want to wax our floors, we’ll keep cleaning them with linseed oil soap and cold water.
