Amy, thanks to you, I was inspired to attempt my first personal cycling challenge last weekend. It was 61 miles. Nothing compared to your distances but I certainly felt euphoric for it. So keep on inspiring others. You are helping so many people pursue better, healthier lives, both in body and soul :)
Never apologize for how you looked or emotions Amy; you are showing your true authentic side that people can identify with. Lots of lessons learned, and endurance riders now are realizing that diet is important. You cannot train on specialized food then ride an endurance race eating only stuff you can find along the way. So lesson learned there; maybe ride some eating what you might eat on another similar event to find out what works and doesn't tha train your gut more maybe. Bloody hell though lots of respect for you and just keep those monkey mind thoughts from bothering you. We are all enjoying watching you transform yourself and life into a true adventure of joy and excitement. TTFN back to you lovely soul.
You're the best. Please _try _*_not_*_ to doubt yourself_ so much. You always give a great effort, and your transparency is remarkable. We appreciate the smiles (& the tears)!
You're multi-talented. You have the fitness to be an endurance cyclist of note and the unique communication skills to influence in the area of strength and determination to overcome depression. I have no doubt that you'll continue to do great things in this area and make a difference. The western world needs real, unaffected positive role models like yourself. Now one request, I miss Nige... he needs to feature in a future video.
After so many miloneys in Italy and on this latest excursion, Pinney must be also in need of some attention. I'm thinking: checking chain for wear and cleaning and lubricating; checking wheel bearings for play, C&L (most people just throw out cartridge bearings, but I've found that cleaning adding a drop of tenacious oil prolongs the life and makes them ride even smoother than new bearings); check all bolts for tightness; check tires for wear and punctures that didn't cause a leak; check derailleur adjustment and alignment (esp. after travel);check saddle for wear and position; deep clean chamois from all that Chammy buttr, lay out in high UV sun; wash insoles and shoes to prevent fungal infections. Congratulations on your accomplishments!
Sensational and in my experience the chamois’s butter you used is the best there is. I rode a 1000km event in 2023 and that brand you used was a game changer for me. I know on a seperate note that you occasionally mention you no longer work as a mental health nurse. The reality is that you actually do through this channel. You just practice in a different way these days. I was a nurse 40 years ago but stopped formally and worked in healthcare in a different role. Deep down however I never really did stop practicing as a nurse as the values and discipline is always wth me as it is with you as a nurse. You practise mental health care through your tremendously honest inspiring social media contribution. Once a nurse always a nurse. Apologies for the long comment I just have to state the obvious as I see it.
Ahh thank you so much 🤍🤍 yes that is true! I often feel guilty for leaving that role but I always try to help people where I can - thanks for watching along!
Right. That's it. Tomorrow I'm jumping on the bike again after not bothering for months feeling stuck in a rut. Thanks for your inspiration, your honesty, your vulnerability.
Well done again Amy you did so well! My son is an endurance cyclist, he’s done the Silk Road cycle race and the Highland 550 so far this year and I’ve seen the incredible effort he’s puts into his sport, but he’s a strapping lad who cycled all his life and then I see you overcome all your doubts and fears and be so successful and most of all enjoy it, you are inspirational!
You are crushing it Amy! Such an inspiration for me and my wife. We’re working towards some long endurance rides. We have a lot of work to do but we’ll get there. Thank you and keep going!
Thanks for all these videos.. and part of the inspiration that made me try (and, surprisingly, finish in time) a BRM600km / 8000D+ two weeks ago . I also made the mistake of working the next day, although I was working at home and got up just before the first meeting at 9.30. Fell asleep at 4 in the afternoon, luckily I didn't miss anything important ! Keep up the good work !
Ahh wow this is so great to hear!! Massive well done on your 600km 🫶 hopefully see you at an Audax some day ☺️ haha yes work after long ride like that defo isn’t ideal! X
I usually do not get emotional, but I was very euphoric when my 10 year old son and I rode the Hotter N Hell 100 mile endurance ride in Texas, USA August 2023. We did it in 5 hours 24 minutes. The ride lived up to its name. But we did it! I let him cross the finish line ahead of me!
Amy, you have no reason to question your abilities. Please just listen to your inner voice when it comes to safety. When friends like Nige and your hometown friends advise on protections listen closely. If something hurts, don’t ignore it. I’ve never had to push through pain as you have. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Congratulations again
Handy things for women to take with them are the Tinkle-belle (no more stinging nettle stings) and a steripen to make stream water safe to drink. Neither of these are big or heavy.
You are such a natural talking to and in front of a camera! Thanks for being so inspirational. I rode over a few cattle grids at the weekend. I couldn't resist an attempt at one of your sound effects! Don't overstretch yourself, you have nothing to prove to anyone, including yourself. PDP and APN are epics and you demolished them.
Thanks Amy for the debrief, loved watching you do the challenge and hearing about the after effects. Love hearing about even the "gory " details, makes it real, you are a true inspiration, thanks again x
Hydration? Would you use a water bladder again or more water bottles? I just love this channel. Happy to see it grow like this for you. Us viewers want to keep those doors opening… TTFN 🥂
Congratulations on your successful ride. Very inspiring. You came very close to where I live had I known I would have done a quick pitstop for you !! The fact that you also manage all your video at the same time is great for us. Keep up being you 😊
Thanks for both the video of you doing All Points North and this debrief. Others have already said this, but I'll reiterate: You are definitely and inspiration for anyone thinking of biking. Whether long or shorter distances. You did it! Never apologize for what you went through. Anyone doing endurance sports knows you go through highs and lows in just about any ride. It's part of the experience! 🙂 While watching your video you filmed during the event, I noticed a couple of times you ran out of water. Maybe add the bladder back in to your camelback? I know it's more weight, but hydration is so important. If that extra amount of water lets you get to a place to refill without being parched, it's worth it.
I meant to comment on the ride video but forgot. It was an amazing achievement, you should be extremely proud of yourself for doing it, and especially for placing where you did. I'm not sure if I'd do anything like that distance myself, but after a year of getting back into cycling I'm starting to look at and enter sportives. Just upgraded from my 10 year old Dawes Giro to a new Trek Domane AL2, and honestly the difference is night and day. Looking forward to my second 50+ mile ride on the 15th and arranging more throughout the summer. Keep being a massive inspiration to so many people, your attitude is brilliant 😁
Amy that was very inspiring, it has got me fired up to get my knee on the mend. Can you not get a Garmin SOS device I have seen other solo riders and hikers use, may help the anxiety.
Great to hear that, hope your knee has a good recovery and you can enjoy your rides ☺️ I do have the incident thing on my garmin which is great it texts/calls people if it detects a crash 🙌
So impressive Amy!! So proud of you girl!! Please do take your rest seriously. I hope to see many more adventures in the future and would be so disappointed if you and Kyle were to burn yourselves out. Take good care and rest as hard as you ride!!!
Hi Amy, re chamois cream, my wife Maria has tried them all and found the ‘best kept secret for ladies’, it’s cavilon durable barrier cream. Maria has found it especially good on her lady bits 👍
Amazing effort! Reminded me of my long rides and how fun they are! Must do some more! I personally find main roads late at night feel safe. Not much traffic, just just get the odd HGV, but their drivers are very good - give lots of room. Just make sure have a good rear light.
Katie Kookaburra also felt scared when she first went out at night, having similar fears. AS a guy though , night is my favourite time of day whether it is wildcamping, driving or riding. You also pretty much have the roads to yourself which is so peacefull. With everything pitch dark except the light from your light, wonderfully spooky and atmpospheric.
Yes there is something nice about night riding once I get over the fear, less traffic & the quiet (until I’m there 😂) is defo one of the best things about it!
Amazing ride Amy.. wow your such a good rider brilliant your such an inspiration.. great update on the ride.. you’ll be riding for a team next 😊 your very talented and have excellent endurance stamina. Chapeau.. Pete 💪🚴🏻👍🚴♀️
My life that really is a fantastic achievement it really really is. U should be so proud of yourself. Cant believe you were just around the corner from me in lakes would have loved to have joined u for a few ' Millonies'😅
You mentioned in this video and it was mentioned in the ride video that Kyle, your parens and the organisers were tracking you. Not knowing about these things it would be interesting to know how this works and the kit involved. It is good to know that when you are out alone that there are ways of someone being able to find out where you are if you want them to. I am not currently cycling but often walk on my own in remote places and it would be good to know that someone could find me if needed. Can you do a video on that?
Hiya! The event organised live trackers on our bikes I also use WhatsApp live location with Kyle and have incident mode on my garmin so if a crash is detected it automatically texts/calls my mum & Kyle with my location ☺️
Amy, try the 7mesh bib shorts and tell us what you think. Specifically, the WK3 version. These are meant for long-haul endurance comfort. If you get on as well as I do, you'll never think of your bottom again (no pain, discomfort, chafing, etc., etc.). Made by a Canadian company in British Columbia. Do Kyle a solid and get him the men's version, MK3.
@@tweettweettwitch Have you ridden the MK3? I have thousands of miles in it. No issue with center or any seam. As a bonus, it doesn't have the clown-ish pad stitching... no comical bullseyes on your private bits.
Awesome review. If you get a chance check out the TNGA in the states. I have a friend that has completed it seven times. Thanks for all your positive vibes. Pedal safe
I'd be interested in hearing how you build your endurance. I did a 50km/1km elevation this weekend and was wiped, but it would be great to push further.
Awesome! I just built my miles up over time, never focused on speed at the start. I used to run and keep for before cycling so I think that gave me a good base. But defo just build up the mileage over time and be kind to yourself, all miles are to be proud of ☺️
72 hours and the Garmin did not need to be charged. I, too, have the solar version and I'll concur the battery life is amazing. I go weeks without thinking about charging.
Amy, which Panaracer tyre do you use. My wife struggles changing tyres, even with the tyreglider and tyre monkey, she also has the Tyre Pal which does make getting them back on again easier but when taking them off she really struggles.
@@amy.cycling.adventures Thanks Amy, do you find them easier to fit/remove. My wife struggles and worries when she’s by herself or in a group she doesn’t know we’ll. We generally use Continental which fortunately don’t often puncture but they are all a really tight fit
@@amy.cycling.adventures Thanks Amy for taking the time to answer my question. Gee that’s great. I will look for them as you mentioned once they’re easier to get on and off your wheels. Kyle’s new bike looks fab. Cheers from Northern Ireland 🐑🐑🐏
Your chamois cream and vaseline comment reminded me of a very, very, very old joke - A doctor teaching medicine was taking a class on 'Observation'. He took out a jar of yellow-coloured liquid. "This", he explained, "is urine. To be a doctor, you have to be observant to colour, smell, sight, and taste." After saying this, he dipped his finger into the jar and put it into his mouth. His class watched on in amazement, most, in disgust. But being the good students that they were, the jar was passed, and one by one, they dipped one finger into the jar and then put it into their mouth. After the last student was done, the lecturer shook his head. "If any of you had been observant, you would have noticed that I put my 2nd finger into the jar and my 3rd finger into my mouth."
I wear sunglasses/goggles to help me breathe because of hay fever, not just to protect my eyes. The corners of the eyes are linked to the nose so getting pollen there sets off the bogey machine in the sinuses. I eat what I normally eat on long (several days+) rides but with a few more carbs and maybe just a little bit of sugary stuff, but I eat low-0 carb generally which you would most likely need to adapt to. So I say just eat what you usually do and you'll probably need extra carbs on top. That might not eliminate the stomach troubles because you're probably a high carb eater like most are. But it would probably help a bit. Then it's a trade off with how much time you have and how quickly you can get food. I don't normally eat sandwiches etc from petrol garages, but if I am on a ride and don't want to dilly dally, then that's usually quickest workable choice. One sit down hot meal a day can make a big difference to me. And I don't know how "good" you think you have to be, to be "good enough" I'm only really here for your long rides and you're one of my favourites to watch when you've done a long ride. I don't care so much for the cafe rides so much but I still watch a few. But that's just my preference. Without a chance of failure, these rides are worthless. I failed my last 2 long rides, but I know that my recovery before I set off was about what I would expect it to be after I finished them. I wouldn't know that without my Whoop tracker. I recall that you had a bit of a cold or something before APN, so you wouldn't have been fully recovered. I started my rides knowing that I was in a bad place from the off. But I also knew that there was a possibility of a better recovery during my rides. It never happened but I knew not to beat myself up trying or beat myself up because I failed. I enjoyed my rides nonetheless. And it doesn't have to be all about pushing your limits all the time for me either. My favourite cycling you tuber is Keep Smiling Adventures. He's a very capable rider, but he rarely really tests himself. Fear or anxiety is real, even if it's something highly unlikely or not even dangerous. It has a real effect. I wouldn't be scared of sleeping out alone. I've done it more times than I can remember. But I have met many who have the same fears as you and a number of them won't even try. I don't think less of you for having those fears. I think more of you for having the bravery to even try. That's one of the things I like best about your rides on this channel and what struck me most about your APN ride. Just the bravery of trying even though I figured you would succeed in your ride before I got halfway through watching it and before you knew yourself, barring crashes or other bad luck. That you're willing to try in the first place is what easily makes you "good enough" for me. Statistically, the person most likely to cause you harm is Kyle and he seems like quite a nice chap to me, but I guess that you can never tell. Serial killers and rapists, most likely, don't hang around the middle of the countryside on the off chance that the perfect victim should happen upon them. I think they're a lot more targeted than that. I'm looking forward to your next long ride.👍
Amy, if you're getting saddle sore, you and that saddle need to part company. Ladies, you should not have to put up with this! There are some excellent female specific saddles out there by one or two well known manufacturers in particular. For long distances and endurance events you need a wider saddle that properly supports your sit bones. If you feel pressure on the soft tissue areas, you're on the wrong saddle. It's as simple as that. Suggest perhaps finding a female bike fitter who understands these issues. My better half suffered terribly until she tried a ladies Sportourer Garda with a wide cutaway. She also finds the eagle beak profile of the Selle SMP TRK to be exceptionally comfortable for long distance rides. Both of these are wider at the rear with oversized cutouts. Maybe one of your sponsors could take up the challenge here, and help many other female cyclists who feel they have to just put up with pain and discomfort?
Thank you!! For me I always make sure to eat high protein afterwards, have a very steady ride the day after or a few days after to help spin any lactate build up out, spinning with no effort, lots of stretching (I have to force myself to do that!) & a sports massage too 2-3 days after (although painful!) and then extra sleep & more rest days the week / 2 weeks after too ☺️ I’m not an expert in any way though!
If you enter a ride and don't complete it, or miss your time deadline, you still tried and you can always still use the learning experience to try again!
Only remember one thing... 10 km = 6 mile. From this all else follows. For example 20 km is 12 mi. Then 30 km must be 18 mi. 60 km? 36 mi. To get speed simply replace km with km/hr and mi with mi/hr.
Can someone explain to me why, as a grumpy 55 year old pretty poor cyclist, was I cycling along a 60 mile route at the weekend shouting "hello Sheepies"
Weird, isn't it. I've noticed a couple of other RUclips cyclists doing the same thing lately (Katie Kookaburra, for one), and wondered whether it was a conscious tribute to Amy or the unconscious spreading of her indominable spirit, joie de vivre, and that infectious and delightful je ne sais quoi, that she brings.
I love your videos but there is always Flicker when you record indoors. If you set your recording frame rate to 25fps you won't have this issue. A lot of people say use 30fps but that is for the US. The flicker is caused by Uk lighting and 25fps will sort this for you. Keep up the video's think I have finally caught up with them all now. Not thinking about all points north.
@@amy.cycling.adventures I film everything at 25fps indoor and outdoor and it works great. I don't have to remember to change the setting that way. The only time you would need to change it is if you do a slow motion video which I never do. I did a short test video to checked it worked so it might be worth you trying that and see if you get on with it. I use a GoPro like you with the media mod and lens mod 2 and just switch it between sure wide (for recording myself on my bike) and liner+ for when someone else is holding the camera and recording me. Makes it easy and keeps the work down in editing. Hope this makes sense and helps. P.S. I wasn't criticising your video just noticed it on a couple and thought it might help you.

Thanks Amy, appreciate the debrief. There's a few Honda's across the pond. Check out the Tour Divide. Take care.
By 'honda' I mean Ultra's lol
😅 thanks! Ohh I’ll check that out!
Well done again you R a true inspiration to many people
Well done on a great achievement. Thank you.
My life that really is a fantastic achievement it really really is. U should be so proud of yourself. Cant believe you were just around the corner from me in lakes would have loved to have joined u for a few ' Millonies'😅
Thank you!! Ahh next time 😅😅
Absolutely amazing, well done, going to do it myself one day 😊
You mentioned in this video and it was mentioned in the ride video that Kyle, your parens and the organisers were tracking you.
@@amy.cycling.adventures thank you for your answer. It looks like you need the right technology 😀😀👍
Big up amy and kyle ❤
Well done, Good to hear about less sweet things.
I am Type two Diabetes so less sugar is good.
Thinking about Solo trips.
Brilliant as ever and honesty about how you feel -can you say what the September multi day event is? Like to look into that myself xx
Thank you!! It’s one that we’ve planned ourselves so not an event that can be entered I’m afraid!
Please shows us some Santini kit next week... jerseys and bibs!
I have a big ride coming up, I’m definitely investing in Chamois butter
Massive good luck, hope it goes well and you enjoy it ☺️
Amy, try the 7mesh bib shorts and tell us what you think.
* Q36.5 or X-Bionic bibs for no stitch/seam under seat pad
7mesh mk3 have a centre seam
@@tweettweettwitch Have you ridden the MK3? I have thousands of miles in it. No issue with center or any seam. As a bonus, it doesn't have the clown-ish pad stitching... no comical bullseyes on your private bits.
@@tweettweettwitch Q36.5 looks awesome. Thanks! Never heard of them...
the butter is the best advice took me too long to try , its the same for men here lol , thank you for your work
Weldone amy keep staying Strong
Thank you 🫶🫶
Awesome review. If you get a chance check out the TNGA in the states. I have a friend that has completed it seven times. Thanks for all your positive vibes. Pedal safe
Hi Amy. Which Alpkit bivvy and sleeping bag did you use. Well done APN. I fancy it next year. I came up to Emley moor mast to cheers riders on
👍👍👍
Well done Amy, big achievement.
Stelvio ?
Need to grab a few days somewhere in the sun with Kyle, without the bike ! :) recharge ! :)
So inspired by you!!!!! 🎉
I'd be interested in hearing how you build your endurance. I did a 50km/1km elevation this weekend and was wiped, but it would be great to push further.
Awesome! I just built my miles up over time, never focused on speed at the start. I used to run and keep for before cycling so I think that gave me a good base. But defo just build up the mileage over time and be kind to yourself, all miles are to be proud of ☺️
@@amy.cycling.adventures perfect. Thanks for the reply Amy!
Well done
72 hours and the Garmin did not need to be charged. I, too, have the solar version and I'll concur the battery life is amazing. I go weeks without thinking about charging.
It’s great 🙌🙌
Amy yes Very Good 👍🎉🎉.
Better to have and not need... than need and not have.
Amy, which Panaracer tyre do you use. My wife struggles changing tyres, even with the tyreglider and tyre monkey, she also has the Tyre Pal which does make getting them back on again easier but when taking them off she really struggles.
Hiya, I use the agilest duro ☺️ I really struggled with it too before!
@@amy.cycling.adventures Thanks Amy, do you find them easier to fit/remove. My wife struggles and worries when she’s by herself or in a group she doesn’t know we’ll. We generally use Continental which fortunately don’t often puncture but they are all a really tight fit
Fantastic What Panaracer Road tyres does Amy use on her bike?
Hiya! I have the Agilest Duro ☺️
Your chamois cream and vaseline comment reminded me of a very, very, very old joke -
A doctor teaching medicine was taking a class on 'Observation'. He took out a jar of yellow-coloured liquid. "This", he explained, "is urine. To be a doctor, you have to be observant to colour, smell, sight, and taste."
After saying this, he dipped his finger into the jar and put it into his mouth.
😂😂
Awesome!
well done you legend !
And I don't know how "good" you think you have to be, to be "good enough"
I'm only really here for your long rides and you're one of my favourites to watch when you've done a long ride.
How did it feel on Great Dun Fell? What distance were you already at?
I was feeling tired!! I think I was about 300 miles in!
multi day event in september? is that the Ride Across Britain?
Not quite!! But we will be riding across somewhere ☺️
@amy.cycling.adventures intriguing! You should try the RAB, LeJog in 9 days with some great nights camping and amazing scenery.
Congrats on APN! Do you have any recovery tips after doing these types of events?
Would really appreciate what preparation you did.. training etc
Will put it on the list to do ☺️ I will include it in a Q&A vid 🫶
Well remembered 😂
If you enter a ride and don't complete it, or miss your time deadline, you still tried and you can always still use the learning experience to try again!
100% so true!
What's next? RatN?
Only remember one thing... 10 km = 6 mile. From this all else follows. For example 20 km is 12 mi. Then 30 km must be 18 mi. 60 km? 36 mi. To get speed simply replace km with km/hr and mi with mi/hr.
Why don’t you do Race across America
That is also on my aim list 😍 very pricy that one though!!
@@livy1962 In fairness, I think Katie has been communing with sheep, donkeys etc for a while
Haha! I love to hear that 🙌🙌 enjoy your rides ☺️
Thanks I’ll try that! ☺️
Would that work for outdoor filming too? Or just indoor? ☺️
Way to go!!
I had me dinner at dinnertime and me tea at teatime (bout 5.30pm) so I was ok with yer waffling.....

What's a Peanut Butter Pitta ? Is it like a Peck of Pickled Pepper ?
😂😂
My guess is that it’s peanut butter spread on pita bread? Idk, must be a UK thing that’s similar to a PBJ. If you find out I’d like to know too.
