    I think some of us who are looking for that free custom domain are looking for alternatives to zoho as well. People will be moving away from zoho because they are killing off cold emailing just like gmail is. I’m not cold emailing at the moment but would like to have that option moving forward.

    You can have an fairly secure email. If it would have an setting to encrypt the text and you get another email with the code yo decrypt on the receiver end. Like Outlook it has. Nobody can read the message unless it is decrypted. That way you have good enough security.

      Buf honestly, there is no substitute to email. But you have to accept that your emails are about as private as a conversation people have in a caffé. There is no reasonable expectation of privacy, email was not designed for that.

    I would totally like Proton mail if the free version had 2 things from the low tier paid version and that's the custom domain and the desktop client support.
    As it is now the free version offers way more then I would need as a personal Email client for what it dose offer; so I can't see myself paying just to get those 2 things and more of what I said was already enough from the free version.
    So for me I don't need the Proton calendar, drive, VPN or pass. So in short. If they had the Proton mail free version and just that without the other 4 things previously mentioned and the 2 things I do need from the paid version the custom domain and the desktop support all while still being free, that for me at least would be a no brainier to use them.
    But right now I'm torn cause the free version is offering more then I need and paying to get more of what I don't need to get 2 things that I do need really doesn't sit well with me. So I guess I'll hold out for awhile to see what might be out there.
    Great video and keep up the good work. 🙂👍

    Dude the only information that proton was able to provide was the ip address of the login, no other information was shared and due to encryption nothing else could be shared. Skiff is based in the US which for privacy is a no no. For me skiff is missing 1) drive app so that I can sync a folder on my desktop. 2) ability to subscribe to a calendar (so I can see for example a todoist calendar inside skiff)

    I organise my email with labels in gmail, and when I moved from gmail to Proton, the big problem was that Proton would not nest labels.
    So I abandoned proton for that reason alone. Wonder if Skiff lets a user nest labels?

    My interests are feeding Google less data and evading cybercriminals. For the second point, my wife and kid should be able to use the thing. Given my threat model, I'm not too worried about my IP being tracked. But this is certainly a deal breaker for other more conservative threat models.

    • @Craylor

      I use Skiff for my personal email and Google Workspace for my business email. The Cloudflare Forwarding I showed off in another video works if you’re in a bind and really need a free email that sends to an actual inbox, but I think Skiff is a better free solution now that it exists.

    Protonmail subject is not encrypted. Protonmail did safe IP, when I checked last few months ago. They also do send ur data to goverments outside Switzerland. I myself was shocked at just how bad it is. Threema is a messenger, but even Swiss Military uses it.

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  9 месяцев назад +5

      Yeah, the unencrypted metadata is a downside of PGP. Skiff mail sent between Skiff users has encrypted metadata, but there aren’t many Skiff users to use it with, so I still think PGP implementation is important.

    • @nemiw4429
      @nemiw4429 9 месяцев назад

      @@Craylor I ment the subject of the mail is not encrypted, saved as plain text in the database. Proton claims for anti spam reasons, thats also their reason why they store ur IP and I think receiver mail is stored too. So if 2 friends from [ENTER COUNTRYX] mail each other, 1 is caught by DictatorJohn from COUNTRYX, its easy for COUNTRYX to identify the second person by IP and if u wrote something in the subject matter, DictatorJohn can read it, cuz its plain text = not encrypted.

    Tuta is the best, encrypt evryfing, proton it does not encrypt the message subject and metadata, only the email content, so in terms of privacy it is worse than tuta. And tuta it is cheaper.

    Skiff is better. Skiff fk'n RULES. Skiff is in America (San Francisco, California), Protonmail is in Europe (Switzerland). I way prefer the Skiff email UI. I do not have the email delete bug you have. With Proton mail just to make it barely functional in comparison to the generous free version of Skiff, you have to pay. The free version of Proton mail only allows the creation of three folders. That's it, three folders. When you delete an email in Proton mail you get this stack of undo delete notifications that linger in the middle of the screen for 3 seconds and if you have a bunch of them it's very irritating.
