- Travelling in FIRST CLASS to my FAVOURITE station! (11/01/23). I rode with Transpennine Express from Manchester Airport to Preston in first class on one of their newer class 802 Nova 1 trains.

Boring fact, I went to a concert in Avenham park in June 1996 that was organised by Rock FM the local radio station. Towards the end, this random girl group called the Spice Girls came on and performed, badly, a song called Wannabe.

I have to say again, well done for actually managing to catch a TPE service given their current unreliability. My station used to have 802's but since the timetable change, we are now back to 185's (when they run lol).

Can't believe that you got asked if you work for TPE lol! But hopefully you will get more chances of riding the Nova 1s when you visit more stations in Yorkshire if not it be the Class 185s (which could be a future video idea 1st class on the Class 185s) Great video G!

The Transpennine Express Nova 1 Class 802 Bi-Mode IET are so nice. Same with the Nova 2 Class 397 Civity EMU and Nova 3 Class 68+Mk5A and the Class 185 Desiro DMU. I only have been on the Class 185.

I often upgrade to 1st as the difference is so small once youve had a couple of coffees you're in profit, and in a nicer environment.

I finally know to the answer of the Clifton Manchester Station Shelter, as I had ridden past there 14/01/2023, and I can say G you were right. The station shelter has been replaced with wooden shelter! I'm gonna be having words with Northern about that!

I'm more surprised that the Transpennine Express train was actually running! (as Jen on the Move will testify)
I did do their first class on the Manchester to Edinburgh route back in October, as the price difference was £2 between standard and first advance, so obvious no brainer - comfier seat, coffee and drinks and snacks. Set the weekend away off to a good start (but then in standard on the Sunday, TPE only ran train back to Carlisle to ended up changing there and Preston to get home...)
Nicely done on the price though G, it's also worth mentioning you can get Seatfrog upgrades cheap sometimes too. Glad you enjoyed it.

Excellent vlog, G! TPE don't seem to use Nova 1s on their Glasgow routes, so I'll need to have a journey on one from Edinburgh some time. The Nova 1s do look like really nice units to ride on - especially now that Novas in general have stopped avoiding you!

@@GLovesTrains It was all thanks to a friend of mine who works as a driver with ScotRail 😊 got in the cabs of a few other trains on the day including a Pendolino!
You can't go wrong going to Preton Station (also my favourite but being a Prestonian by birth I would say that). Also having used TPE 185s regularly from Huddersfield to Preston, I can definitely agree that the approx £10 upgrade to first class is definitely worth it as you don't have to do the Picacdilly Platform 14 seat fight then...
Great vlog! The Nova 1s livery is fantastic! The first class looks reasonable enough (although the difference between standard and first class doesn’t look huge!) - you probably ate / drank the additional £6 you had to pay so it was excellent value!

I've only ridden on 1 Nova 1, 802208. I haven't seen 214 yet either, and haven't ridden on a Nova 2 or Nova 3 yet. Most of my TPE journeys have been 185s, even since the Nova fleet entered service.

amazing stuff First class on the Nova 1 looks amazing and ive had a few rides on those like my first ride was from Liverpool Lime St to Newton Le Willows while doing a Lancashire day ranger in 2021 and in Msy last year i rode one from Darlington to Northallerton & from Darlington to Durham while holidaying in Newcastle at the time and back in Sept i unexpectedly rode one from Manchester Oxford Road to Preston as my Northern train got Cancelled & staff at Oxford Road allowed me to travel to Preston on the TPE service on the day but anyway i like the 802s and the TPE ones are really nice brilliant vlog

Basically the same trains we have on the Great Western Main Line. I buy a First Class annual season, because it's less than £5 a day difference and the breakfast means I don't do hangry at my colleagues.

When you come out of station at Preston go to South East end of car park. Steps up alongside old railway bridge. Vicars Bridge. Turn left. Short cut to avenham park
Hi Gloves, look like you are getting used to travelling first class and why not it suits you, we are missing you in Wales and would like to know when you are coming back, I personally would love to see you do all the stations from Caernarfon to Porthmadog on the Welsh Highland Railway and even combined it with the beer festival called Rail Ale (9-10 June). Brilliant video G, I've never been on a Nova 1 myself and I do intend on doing it sometime in the future, the interior looks nice and the first class does look nice. Also it just has to start raining towards the end doesn't it? lol.

fab video G Preston is also one of my fav stations although being an Essex lad its quite a visit to do regularly 😂😂 i like the Nova 1 too but just a shame the service these days is pretty crap overall with cancellations and can be packed out as a result

These trains look really cool. Last October I was in Chester for the weekend & deliberatley booked to change at Preston on my way home so I could ride on a TPE service. Sadly, a muck up south of Crewe meant massive delays, me missing my connection & having to take an Avanti service instead. Still hope to get an 802 at some point.

Caught the train from Carlisle once for work. Cheapest ticket was a First Class Advance. I bought it. Screenshot of the prices on the page to stop work from moaning about it being first class! Seats were like you had, table and 4 seats one side, table 2 seats on the other. Walking down looking for my seat, and there's a table with a couple sat at it... My booked seat? Yep, with them! I sat elsewhere at a 2 seat table. A few stops down someone else gets on, looks for their booked seat. Guess where. With the couple! A whole empty carriage, and we all get booked on to the same table! Both of us left the couple to themselves.
You lucky lady G i have travelled 1st class to Edinburgh from Newport and found it second to none tbh....even though it was an upgrade by the conductor as i couldnt afford it or really justify the cost but as it was free then go for it i did and didnt regret it one bit
Only time I've been in TPE first call as when I was going 2-3 North into Leeds. We sat there on accident and didn't realise cause the difference on Class 185 just isn't that much and the trip was like 15 mins. That said, the train was much better than trying to use buses here in West Yorkshire. They are from their own ring of hell.

Jealous of the prices! Down in the deep South West an hours journey first class is £30, great videos as always.
Food and drink are complimentary on First Class, so I try to go First class whenever I can.
I hope to travel on one of the new TPEs one day. At least they are now running! You say that Preston is your favourite train station. I'm intrigued as to why? What makes a good train station in your opinion?
It's where I learnt my train classes haha 😄
